[Sean Lennon – ‘On Again Off Again’]
The guitar line in this is gorgeous. Sean’s no slouch!
(also, he fingers chords the same way John did )

Leonard Cohen’s 1984 original:
Dylan performed it live in Montreal in 1988, becoming one of the first to cover it:
Then John Cale recorded it for a Cohen tribute album, I’m Your Fan, in 1991, laying the groundwork for most versions to come, and was later used in the 2001 film Shrek:
Including Jeff Buckley’s beautiful 1994 version from his album Grace (which many feel is the definitive version):
And the Rufus Wainwright 2001 version which appeared (in place of Cale’s version) on Shrek‘s soundtrack album:
While there are many more versions that could be included, maybe finish with Leonard live in London at the O2 Arena in 2008 (with me in the audience):

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I had ‘Trains’ by Porcupine Tree and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ alternately stuck in my head all day yesterday. I’m not complaining.
