I’m on a big kick of the amazing new Big Thief single, Not. It’s their most rock-oriented song yet, so after the calm folk of UFOF earlier this year I’m hoping for some louder stuff on the new album.

he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Sorry to double-post but… I’ve been playing ‘All The Kings Horses‘ off and on for like three hours today and I think I officially have a problem. The guitar bit has been confounding me with its goodness. a-hard-days-night-paul-7

Lovely Everly Bros song from 1986. Voices just as good as their heyday!

Two recent ones: ‘Layla’ by Derek and the Dominoes, mostly for that beautiful piano outro, and ‘Let It Happen’ by Tame Impala, which I listened to quite a lot last winter and am revisiting now for no particular reason other than that it felt right.

Heard this for the first time yesterday and can’t get enough of it. Love that little brass riff between the chorus and the verses!

Really need to listen to the rest of Vigil. So far I’ve only heard this, Good Times (with Steve Marriott on guest backing vocals) and the pretty solid cover of Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.

I’m on a big Bowie streak right now. I just finished listening to Young Americans (There’s a Beatles reference in the title track!!!! Oh yeah, and John’s in a song too).

Just discovered this song and I’m obsessed. Lots of 80s-2000s indie rock vibes (Pavement, Pixies, Stone Roses, early My Bloody Valentine etc)

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I recently found out that Spotify makes a playlist based on what you and others in your family plan are listening to. I don’t want to be exposed to the terrible stuff my dad gets off the radio. some songs of his are OK, and in a few cases our tastes overlap, but many of his songs are terrible. it’s possible stuff in that playlist will show up in my recommendations. i don’t want to be exposed to that stuff. so, to protest this function I’m gonna listen to the same song for a month. space typewriter for the win:
