Too Many People in part because it reminded me of Merry-Go-Round by Buffalo Springfield. And also because my main obsession is literally with one line: TOO MANY PEOPLE GOING UNDERGROUND. That makes me need to loop it constantly.

Cracked Actor. The chorus keeps looping itself through my head and I don’t mind in the slightest. Also A New Career In A New Town and She’ll Drive The Big Car, which is probably on my list of top 10 Bowie songs because OH MY KRISHNA IT IS JUST SO GOOD!!!!

What are your general impressions on Low so far, @50yearslate ?

BeatlebugI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

That is a fabulous acronym.

Still processing. I definitely like it, but it’s very very different from the other Bowie I’ve heard. But in this case, I think different is good. It’s no Reality, but I quite like it so far. (would Low be considered his ‘experimental’ phase?)

Yeah, I mean he was consistently experimenting with new sounds and whatnot but Station To Station, Low, Heroes and Lodger as a progression are probably his most experimental work.

I think it goes Aladdin Sane – Diamond Dogs – Young Americans – Station To Station – Low

[snip …did I miss one? I was trying to follow your order but I feel like there was something between Aladdin Sane and Low that I’ve forgotten…
…to say the least
Q-Man has the chronology mostly right, and Bowie also did Pin Ups, which was a covers album between Aladdin and Diamond.

It was actually the acronym for a box set which was named after the song, and it took me an embarrassingly long time to connect ‘ANCIANT’ with ‘A New Career In A New Town’.

Ah yes. I haven’t heard Pin Ups yet, so I always forget it exists.

Especially something by The BowieMan…
Songs I am on a kick of:
‘Little Lamb Dragonfly’, still.
Been digging ‘Letting Go’, ‘I’m Carrying’ (@SgtPeppersBulldog ), and ‘Beware My Love’ by Wings .
Last night I discovered that one of the better ways* to listen to ‘The Ocean’ (@sir walter raleigh ) by Led Zeppelin (@WeepingAtlasCedars ) is with a nice pair of headphones WAY WAY WAY louder than is healthy so that you can hear A L L T H E B I T S ! including lots I hadn’t noticed before, such as Robert Plant’s happy falsetto scatting buried in the mix during the ‘shoobydoowop’ part. I also noticed that his a capella section is actually gorgeous, which had for some reason passed me by before (too quiet I guess). And, of course, I jump-scared myself repeatedly with the massive cymbal crash after the a capella part (which I do EVERY SINGLE TIME but it’s still stupidly fun).
*The best way if you want to hear ALL THE BITS, but for general enjoyment I would also advocate blasting it whilst driving with the windows down, somewhere maritime or generally holidayish with musically like-minded associates. Not that I’ve tried it… yet… but I plan to.

Last night I lay in bed and listened to ‘Blackout’ and ‘Stay’ by David the Bowieman a few times whilst my brain melted and ran out of my ears (after I removed my headphones) from the multi-layered arrangemental deliciousness of the two songs.
‘Blackout’ is like a crazy chocolate/caramel/god knows what swirl, and ‘Stay’ is like a super crunchy chocolate nut bar. Yes, I always compare music to food.
I think those two are definitely my favourites from their respective albums — yes, despite the greatness of their title tracks.

Somewhere on the Pink Floyd Sound forum I have compared all the members of Pink Floyd to foods. I need to update them, though.
