Another article generated from the Beatles now being available to stream (think Apple about all that money and publicity you missed out on over the years because you’re all idiots), this time focusing on the top 10 skippers.
note: not based on figures but someone’s opinion, hence you may disagree, I certainly do.
Who do they think they are saying Helter Skelter is skippable?

Interesting that they call Within You, Without You one of their most hated songs. It seems to me that most people like that song.
I think it’s the fact that “most people” have, I guess adjusted to how slow the song is. The rest is probably the general public that would automatically deem Within You Without You as “too slow” or something else along those lines.

There seems to be a love/hate vibe towards ‘Within You, Without You’ with little middle ground.
I’ve never been of the opinion that it doesn’t fit on ‘Pepper’. Maybe its too ingrained in my head but to me what type of song does fit on ‘Pepper’ then.
No surprise to see ‘Wild Honey Pie ‘, ‘Run For Your Life ‘ (can’t be having nasty Beatles lyrics ) and ‘Revolution 9 ‘ (which she admits is not a song so why is it therefore included in a list of ten skippable songs?).

When reading opinions I generally try to keep in mind that it’s someone’s opinion, personal taste is, well, personal, and that we can agree to disagree.
But perhaps I’ve been spoiled by this fab Forum, where opinions are usually stated with respect for other opinions which may differ, because I couldn’t read this without getting quite pissed.
While I am not the biggest fan of the White Album , I do not appreciate this person’s constant disparaging remarks in regard to it. And while Tomorrow Never Knows is one of the few songs I used to routinely skip, that was mostly because it was convenient to do so, as it was at the end– if it had been in the middle I doubt I’d have bothered. Now I appreciate its experimental nature. And the thrashing of Run For Your Life ‘s lyrics seems unnecessary to me, particularly as the author states that ‘Usually, I don’t object to songs because of lyrics’. Okay, so it’s a little mean. Okay, fine, it’s downright threatening. But you really can’t take that threat seriously, can you?
But by far the worst was when Within You Without You , a fine song with intriguing instrumentation and a very good lyric, was put down as ‘the worst Beatles song ever put on an album’. What?! Since when has it been the band’s most-hated? And this from someone who claims to be a Harrifan! If belonging to House Harrison means being associated with these kinds of people, I’m not advertising my membership ever again. As for it not fitting on Pepper, well, that’s debatable– I grew up with it so I can’t say, but I think a little variety is good for you.

Maybe if they monetized the Beatles videos on YouTube instead of taking them down or muting them, that would be a great place for money and publicity.

I simply can’t skip. When I’m in a Beatles mood I’m listening to albums as a whole work. It’s like, to me, cutting holes out of the canvas of a painting. I am the same way with all the bands I love. For instance, I can’t listen to “Pinball Wizard” and not want to just start “Tommy” from the beginning and listen all the way through, or hear “Another Brick In The Wall pt. 2” and not want to just listen to “The Wall” all the way through, you know?
I will still have a hankering for a specific song and listen to it randomly of course, don’t get me wrong. And I do shuffle listen often, rarely if at all skip tracks. They’re on my playlist or iPod for a reason.

Ooooo… alright I lied. But just the teensiest smidge. I WILL skip “Revolution 9 “. It’s just too… much for me. Plus I’ve heard that thing backward and it’s nightmare inducing. I know, I know, it’s ~art~. And it is. But I can’t listen to this one.

I actually can listen to Revolution 9 , and am one of the few who enjoy it– but normally when listening to the album I do skip it because it’s not music. I have to be on a certain mood to listen to it.

I can’t listen to music on shuffle. I’m not really sure why. I feel like I have to listen to it in the way that was intended which means that I never skip tracks, I guess I don’t hate any songs enough to do that.
I don’t even mind listening to Revolution 9 but that’s for another thread.

I feel very much the same way as I may have mentioned more often than required 😉

It depends what I want to listen to/ are in the mood for are what tracks get skipped. Some days, I want to listen to mostly Queen, or mostly Beatles, or most Marina and the diamonds, or whatever it is. Some days, I’m too lazy to even skip the tracks I never listen too. Others, I want to skip every track I have on my playlist. It all depends on my mood and what I want to listen to

I generally don’t like to skip songs when playing a CD thinking that the complete album is a work of art and the musician intended album to be heard that way. I just have to make sure that I have time to hear whole thing. If there is a TV show I want to see coming on in 45 minutes, I won’t start an album that is longer than that.
Often though, I will stop a CD after original album and skip the bonus tracks simply because that is what I was used to hearing over the years.
