Someone has started up a blog called Blanco Records where you can get concept bootlegs created by the blogger – a cool original idea if you ask me. So far it’s got material, from amongst others, Paul, Led Zeppelin and Dylan up – The Beatles are also there but the link is wrong and takes you to a dead end.

Its basically another place to get outttakes, demo’s etc but done in a different way.

I downloaded the .zips from Paul, but when I tried to extract the songs, it said it was empty. Any idea why? The same thing happened with the Wilco one.

No idea. The Paul files are definitely there and come as mp3’s. Only thing i can suggest is trying again. Sometimes its down to the web browser you’re using, IE can be a right pain, so if you’re using that i’d suggest going elsewhere (FF, Chrome).

Off-topic: Does anyone here still use IE, it’s incredible how bad it is (slow, clunky, temperamental) when you go and use it after a period of time with the others?

Totally agree about the intolerable slowness of IE. I’m glad FF is in my life.

I’m definitely not using IE. On Chrome. I might be doing something wrong with Windows, it seems like it’s downloading right, it’s like it’s Windows’ fault.

Tried it, the downloads are horrible, they use this site that makes you pay if you want it done in less than an hour. Which sucks because those live Paul albums look fantastic.

Can anyone please link me to a site with working links of most of Dr Ebbetts releases?

They are so hard to find, especially the US releases.

Everything Beatles had a few of Dr Ebbetts work a good while back (i forget when exactly); whether or not they are still there and the links work i don’t know.

Edit: links removed.

Have found the stereo Please Please Me with seemingly working file here.

There is at least one more, there may be others.

The Capitol recording of the Washington Coliseum performance is rubbish. It’s the film soundtrack. Capitol only recorded the three Hollywood Bowl performances. Brian actually turned early requests from Capitol to record them live. They weren’t even given to record Shea Stadium. You can produce a bootleg that looks like a Capitol cover, but that doesn’t make the contents a Capitol recording. However, if it’s at it’s best, the Coliseum gig is a damn good recording taken from a professionally recorded tape. Just not by Capitol.

Meanmistermustard, thanks for the link, I was looking for Purple Chick links that still worked and here they are working a-hard-days-night-john-6.
I had originally download them all but I converted them from FLAC to MP3 and today I regret this. a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

By the way, the only other way to get the Dr. Ebbetts releases, is from torrent sites (mainly piratebay or kickass). From those, I got the A/B Road in FLAC, Dr. Ebbetts Blue Box (in FLAC too), The MFSL (MP3), Purple Chick Beatles live albums (MP3) and Ebbetts The Decca Audition (FLAC).

Let me take you down 'cause I'm going to...Strawberry Fields.

All Washington ’64 bootlegs pre-itunes 2009, where it was made available, in pristine condition and complete, for a limited time as a free film to view as well as a bonus freebie to those who bought the stereo box, have been superceded and are pretty worthless. This includes that Ebbett bootleg – however if someone is looking for Doctor Ebbett downloads its only decent to mention it which is why i did.

Anyway. Octaner’s Blog has re-upped Dr E’s ‘The Beatles In Italy (Italian Mono)‘.

I recently acquired The Complete BBC Broadcasts from “This is the second Hobnail version of The Beatles BBC recordings, titled Unsurpassed Broadcasts. It is generally regarded as an upgrade to the Purple Chick version….”

Is this true?  There are some speed problems and such that I thought had been ironed out in the pc release – maybe pc couldn’t fix all the speed problems?  seems kinda weird.  Also, 3 songs are credited to an album called The Beatles At The Beeb With Pete Best (Drexel 1988), yet the recording date is Jan 1963.

Does anyone know if this version is better than pc’s?  I’m attaching a copy of the song/source list for those who are really interested.  Ok, it doesn’t like txt attachments.  So there’s a picture of the bootleg album cover, front and back :)

Thanks for any clarification on this…

Half of what I say is meaningless...

Unsurpassed Broadcasts contains some trickery (very minor) with the recordings, admitted to by Hobnail (the guy who compiled it), however there are many upgrades and new bits of chat that are not on Purple Chicks set. There is no ultimate source for the BBC recordings, all bootleg collections have issues and the Great Dane box set from the nineties is till considered to be the best source for a couple of tracks here and there.

The Beatles At The Beeb With Pete Best (Drexel 1988)’ will be the release date and source album title used for the 3 tracks not when they were recorded.

Doug Sulpy recently put out ‘The BBC Master Guide‘, an 84 page pdf (a hard copy was available but sold out very quickly) which is said to help fans/collectors assemble the best sources together (i havent got it). Details in the pic below which is captured from the link contained.

Just saw this.

The waiting thing doesnt bother me, i just download whilst doing other stuff – its free and i know it isnt going to knacker my computer.

The worst are the ones with a download limit so you have to wait anything from 40 minutes to 24 hours before you can get the next instalment or another file, its incredibly frustrating when the download fails and you have to start all over again a day later.

The following people thank meanmistermustard for this post:

Guitars101 has many working links for bootlegs but you have to spend time rummaging thru it (do a google search for “guitars101” + the artist you are looking for).
