Saddened to hear Terry Doran, longtime Beatles’ associate, died on 18 April from unknown causes, aged 80.
Doran, believed by many to be the inspiration for She’s Leaving Home ‘s “man from the motor trade” (though denied by Paul), first met Brian in a Liverpool pub in 1959 and they became friends. When George was looking to buy his first car in 1962, Brian pointed him Doran’s way, who sold him a secondhand Ford Anglia, with George getting a discount with the suggestion he, John and Paul appear in an ad.
When the group headed South, so did Doran, setting up a car dealership in Hounslow with Brian called Brydor, which provided The Beatles’ cars along with much of the rest of London’s rock elite up until Brian’s death.
He contributed to A Day In The Life , as John later explained:
There was still one word missing when we came to record. I knew the line had to go “Now they know how many holes it takes to – something – the Albert Hall” but for some reason I couldn’t think of the verb. What did the holes do to the Albert Hall? It was Terry who said ‘fill’ and that was it.
Following Brian’s death he was made head of Apple Publishing, then went on to manage Apple artists Grapefruit and Mary Hopkin (though Hopkin wasn’t impressed by him). He then John’s personal assistant for a time…
…before going on to work for George (as estate manager at Friar Park) shortly after John’s marriage to Yoko.
Pattie Boyd tweeted:
So saddened to hear of the passing of Terry Doran. Terry was a major part of my life at Friar Park and he was also very close to George. I particularly remember how much Terry loved the grounds and garden and spent hours working there. RIP Terry
RIP Terrence James Michael Doran (14 December 1939 – 18 April 2020)

Sad to hear we have lost Stranglers keyboardist Dave Greenfield to the virus aged 71.
It was Greenfield who wrote the music for what became their signature song, the wonderful ‘Golden Brown’ – one of the most beautiful songs about heroin going.
RIP David Paul Greenfield (29 March 1949 – 3 May 2020)

RIP Florian, a true musical pioneer. His music- particularly the run of albums from Autobhan to Computer World – meant so much to me. This one’s gonna take a while to process.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Also, I didn’t hear about this until days later, but RIP to Beat writer Michael McClure.
Michael McClure, one of the famed Beat poets of San Francisco whose career as a poet eclipsed many others in popular culture, has died. He was 87.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that McClure died Tuesday in Oakland, California, after suffering a stroke last year.
On 7 October 1955, a then 22-year-old McClure helped organize the famous Six Gallery beat poetry reading and later read at the Human Be-In at Golden Gate Park that launched the Summer of Love in 1967 and at The Band’s “Last Waltz” concert at Winterland in 1976.
“Without the roar of McClure, there would have been no 60s,” actor Dennis Hopper once said.
In McClure’s 1982 nonfiction account of the Six Gallery reading, Scratching the Surface of the Beats, he set the stage for the Revolution that was to follow in the mid-1950s: “The world that we tremblingly stepped out into in that decade was a bitter, gray one,” he wrote. “We saw that the art of poetry was essentially dead – killed by war, by academies, by neglect, by lack of love, and by disinterest. We knew we could bring it back to life.”
His first reading in 1955 was overshadowed by the introduction of Howl, by Allen Ginsberg. But McClure outlasted all of the Beats in a career that spanned more than 60 years, publishing more than 30 books of poetry, plays and anthologies until 2017. He toured the United States, Mexico and Japan with Ray Manzarek of the Doors. He also was a professor of poetry at California College of the Arts for 43 years.
“Michael was incredibly gracious, erudite, and totally dedicated to the poet’s calling,” said Elaine Katzenberger, publisher of City Lights, which published McClure’s works dating to 1963. “He was a sometimes-trickster, most definitely a provocateur, and yet, quite solicitous and patient, a sage who was beautiful inside and out.”

Always love this clip. I bet David would have a great tribute to LR if he was here today.
The Mick bit is great, but I love in the ending were he’s asked:
“Was it music that engaged you or was it the showmanship of it all?“
and he says:
“It was really the music… and the showmanship of it all“,
and then he bursts in laughter.
LOL miss him too
