RIP also to my cousin Jack Brown, a very talented painter (and paint-scraper) whose work was displayed in Toronto’s Museum of Contemporary Art, the Royal Ontario Museum and elsewhere.

I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

One the best (in my opinion) modern classical composers has died today, aged 86 – Krzysztof Penderecki.
Perhaps his most famous work is this harrowing composition:
RIP Penderecki

Very sad to hear we have lost former Arrows frontman Alan Merrill to the cursed virus aged 69. He wrote one of rock’s greatest anthems…
They were bigger in the UK than the US, though Merrill was born in New York.
Joan Jett rightly paid tribute:
My thoughts and love go to his family, friends and music community as a whole. I can still remember watching The Arrows on TV in London and being blown away by the song that screamed hit to me.
With deep gratitude and sadness, wishing him a safe journey to the other side.
RIP Allan Preston Sachs (19 February 1951 – 29 March 2020)
And Sir…
[The article also references John Prine being in a critical condition, happy to report he is now said to be stable.]

Scottish comedian Eddie Large, half of the great UK comedy double act Little and Large with the late Syd Little (only bettered by Morecambe and Wise, and the Two Ronnies), has died aged 78 because of the damned virus.
RIP Edward Hugh McGinnis (25 June 1941-2 April 2020).

RIP Ranking Roger, former singer with The (English) Beat (and the Special Beat with members of the Specials), who died on 26 March 2020 from complications of cancer. With everything else going on, this sad end to an important part of 2-Tone history got a bit lost, as this also ends an era of the Beat themselves who reformed back in 2005 and released a new album in 2016. The good news is that his son carries on vocal duties, maybe when this virus stops they’ll come down here.
