Oh my, @PauliesGirl, I don’t know what to say, but I’m deeply sorry. I guess… how do I put it… now that all of your family members have gone, it’s up to you to keep them with you, so to speak. Anyway, much love.

RIP the little garden snake I had to behead after I accidentally mortally wounded it. (I like garden snakes a lot and this made me very sad — also snakes wriggle after they’re dead and it’s CREEPY ) *nonexistent unequivocally sad smiley*

My heart goes out to you @Beatlebug I know how you feel. Only I couldn’t help the poor mouse my cat caught last week and just held him/her until the end. It broke my heart but I just could not kill him…

Sorry to hear of the death, at the age of 88, of “the father of Bossa Nova,” Brazilian musician and composer João Gilberto.
You may think it an unfamiliar name, but he was behind one of the world’s most popular recordings, when with his wife, Astrud, and Stan Getz, he recorded this in 1962…
…which in 1964 was edited for single release…
…which largely edited out João Gilberto’s contribution, since Astrud had left him for Getz.
A great of Brazilian music, sadly his last decade was spent as recluse, struggling with debt, and being sued by his children.
RIP João Gilberto Prado Pereira de Oliveira (10 June 1931 – 6 July 2019).

Aw man, RIP..
There’s a 1964/5 Beatles interview where John haphazardly refers to him as “some Mexican guy”…(I believe he offered some mild praise of the “Getz/Gilberto” LP in the exchange, if that sounded too dismissive)
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

RIP Mr Gilberto, a great contributor to the musical world. I particularly enjoy his work with Stan Getz. He will be missed.
Also remembering Syd Barrett, the original frontman and guitarist of Pink Floyd, who died thirteen years ago today.. A true genius, ahead of his time, even now. Wish you were here

Beatlebug, WeepingAtlasCedarsI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

RIP to Brendan Grace, one of Ireland’s most successful comedians and best known to an international audience as Father Stack in Father Ted.
I hope he’s somewhere now where he can loudly drill holes in the wall at 3am, whilst listening to jungle music

Saddened to hear of the death, at the age of 81, of keyboard giant and funk pioneer, Art Neville.
One of the Neville brothers, he co-founded one of the great backing bands, The Meters, who worked with Lee Dorsey, Robert Palmer, Dr. John, and Allen Toussaint, along with recording a couple of early funk classics, Cissy Strut and Look-Ka Py Py:
Neville has also worked Labelle (Lady Marmalade), Paul McCartney , and Professor Longhair.
And then there was the work he did with his brothers, especially the still devastating 1989 Daniel Lanois produced Yellow Moon…
As great as a band ever gets…
God , I remember this at school discos when it was new…
Don’t think many of the teachers got what it was about…
RIP Arthur Lanon Neville (17 December 1937–22 July 2019).
And, Sir…

I just found out that a buddy of mine from school has died. We weren’t ridiculously close as we didn’t know each other for that long, but we had a small group in one of my classes that always worked and had fun together. Some of you may recall that I really don’t have many friends, and so hanging out with him and the others at school truly was what got me through the day a lot of the time. Not only was he such a sweet, easygoing guy, but he had just graduated and had been accepted into a local university. Eighteen is way too young to die. I’m in so much shock; I still can’t believe it’s real.
