Very sad to hear of the death of the enigmatic Scott Walker (Walker Brothers and solo artist) at the age of 76.
One of the most important and influential artists of the ’60s.
RIP Scott Walker (1943-2019)

Saw the Walker brothers in a street in Maida Vale…..But at the same moment saw Mary Hopkins carrying a huge Jumbo Gibson without a case. She’d recently won Opportunity Knocks and I knew she was recording with Paul. She had a minder, could have been Mal……..
Those Were the Days my friend.
RIP

RIP Scott Walker, a very talented musician with an astounding talent for trying out new styles and experimenting. I had no idea he’d collaborated with so many artists including Pulp and SunO))). He will be sorely missed.
Man, between him, Mark Hollis and several others, this year is knocking me as hard as 2016.

Sad to hear of the death of Ranking Roger, lead vocalist (along with Dave Wakeling) and toaster with the Two-Tone group The Beat (known as The English Beat in the US and The British Beat in Australia), at the age of 56.
Born Roger Charlery, I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times in the ’80s and ’90s. He was a great man, and hugely influential on the Two-Tone and Rock Against Racism movements of the late ’70s and early ’80s.
He wasn’t a founder member of The Beat, but his band often supported them on the Birmingham circuit, and he started turning up at their gigs and jumping up on stage with them. Soon he left the band he was in and joined them officially. Admired by other bands of the time (R.E.M.’s early UK tours saw them supporting The Beat more than once, and their admiration for Roger was one of the main reasons), he also worked with The Clash and The Specials.
He was still performing till last year when he had a stroke, leading to the discovery of two brain tumours and lung cancer.
As Billy Bragg said in response to the news, “Rest easy, Rude Boy.”
RIP Roger Charlery (21 February 1963-26 March 2019)

Sad Beatles news today: Joe Flannery, childhood friend of Brian and lifelong confidante, The Beatles booking agent from 1962-63, passed away on 27 March at the age of 89.
I have made a fuller post here because of his close Beatles association.
Could comments please be made there to keep it in one place.
RIP Joseph Flannery (1931-27 March 2019)

Regarded by many as the best drummer in Liverpool, occasionally sat in with the Beatles and was (reportedly) offered the chance to replace Pete by Brian on the day Pete was sacked, saddened to hear of the death of Johnny “Hutch” Hutchinson on 12 April at the age of 79.
There is a longer post in Beatles News because of the Beatles association.
Could any comments please be made there to keep it in one place.

Yeah, I seem to recall it was his wife who made the announcement here. Matt was a great poster, friendly, with very unfortunate recurring health issues. He is still missed.

Remembering our friend @Matt Busby. His widow posted this on Facebook a few days ago. Though it took my breath away, it’s no surprise. He was a mega Fab fan.
Much missed!
Matt’s widow did make a couple of posts after his death with permission. Zig broke the sad news when it came. I remember it well. @Ahhh Girl and I were in Liverpool. The message came through in the early hours while she was sleeping. She liked Matt and I wasn’t sure if I should wake her and let her know. Luckily she woke and did a Zombie walk to the toilet. I took the chance to tell her then. She sort of took it in. In the morning she woke up, sat up in her bed, and said something like, “Did you say Matt’s dead?”
Matt’s widow posted to say more about what happened, to tell us how much he enjoyed being a Forumpudlian, and how much the outpouring of love for him here had meant.

Very saddened by the death today of Doris Day from pneumonia at the age of 97. Singer, actress and, for over 50 years, animal rights activist, she was virtually the last person standing from Hollywood’s Golden Era. I think only Kirk Douglas is still standing.
Stella McCartney has been among the first to pay tribute.
The title track of Ringo’s Sentimental Journey was Doris’ first number one. She was mentioned in Dig It .
I love Doris Day.
RIP Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff (3 April 1922 – 13 May 2019).

Olivia de Havilland, like Kirk, is still with us at age 102; but I can’t name any others of similar stature aside from those two. Norman Lloyd is 105, but was never Hollywood royalty)
