Very sad to hear of the death of Dean Ford (born Thomas McAleese), lead singer with Marmalade, at the age of 72.
Reflections of My Life is one of my all-time favourite songs, and their earlier hit with Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da was the first UK #1 by a Scottish group.
So many songs by that group I absolutely love.
Fascinating to learn that after quitting the group in 1975 he became a limo driver for Bob Dylan and Michael Jackson.
Though he did return to music, releasing his last album, My Scottish Heart, just a couple of months ago.
Thanks for letting us know @Sugarplum fairy.
RIP Thomas McAleese (5 September 1946 – ? January 2019?)

RIP to Mean Gene Okerlund, most famous as a WWF announcer in the 1980s.
Also, RIP to Darryl Dragon, 1/2 of The Captain & Tennille. I’m sure you remember all their hits from the 70s.

Darryl Dragon was also a frequent Beach Boys collaborator (mostly with Dennis, I think) during the early seventies before he found his own fame. R.I.P.

Daryl Dragon blew young VB’s mind with a spaced-out synthesizer solo on his short-lived variety show in 1977. (Wish the clip were youtubeable…) So he holds a place in my personal pantheon even disregarding his Beach Boys collaborations.
RIP Captain.

Just found out that Eric Haydock, the original bassist for The Hollies, as well as a member of the Class Of ’64 supergroup has passed away at the age of 75. Quite a shame, considering I brought up The Hollies and their cover of If I Needed Someone (which he played on) in the “Guess The Song From The Picture” thread just yesterday. R.I.P. Eric

RIP to Carol Channing who recently died at age 97.
Not much to do with the Beatles or rock and roll. But those of you who like musicals and show tunes know her for Hello Dolly on Broadway and Thoroughly Modern Millie on the big screen.
Fans of Family Guy will remember she beat Mike Tyson in a boxing match. Stewie the bookie then had to get violent to collect money from Brian who bet on Mike.

Drummer TED MCKENNA, Who Has Played With RORY GALLAGHER And MICHAEL SCHENKER, Dead At 68
Scottish drummer Edward “Ted” McKenna, who has played with THE SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND, Rory Gallagher, MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP and Ian Gillan, has died at the age of 68.
The news of McKenna‘s passing was confirmed on Facebook by a friend, who wrote: “For everyone who loved him, Ted died this morning from a haemorrhage during elective surgery. Freak occurrence and a huge surgical team fought for 10 hours to save him.
“Unfortunately, there was no solution to stop the bleeding and he faded away without ever knowing. I’m going to miss him so much.”
Earlier today, Michael Schenker wrote on Facebook: “We are totally heartbroken to hear about Ted McKenna, our amazing drummer and dearest friend, passing away this morning. Its a massive shock and a huge loss to lose Ted so suddenly.
“He always had a smile on his face and was one of the most sincerely genuine people you could ever have the pleasure of meeting. One of the great rock drummers, he always played from the heart and his heart was music.
“Rest in peace, Ted. We will miss you.”
This bums me out. I saw him with Band of Friends (a tribute band made of former Rory Gallagher bandmates) last year and it was really good. Here’s a video I took.
RIP
