Thank you, everyone.
The funeral is Tuesday. Then Wednesday I’m going to take my mom on a little mini-vacation so she can just get away. She’s been taking care of her sister for so long now.

RIP to Roy Clark, most famous as the co-host of Hee Haw.
I always liked watching that show. Roy was talented both as a musician and as a comic actor.
Unless Roy covered a Beatles song somewhere down the line, I guess Roy’s connection to the Beatles was indirect. Roy’s co-host on Hee Haw was Buck Owens whose Act Naturally was a Beatle cover.
Finding Beatle connections to a deceased celebrity is almost like playing that Kevin Bacon game.
You are all my friends.

Sorry to hear of the death of director Nicolas Roeg at the age of 90.
One of the most distinctive directors to emerge from the ’60s, from his 1968 debut Performance (unreleased until 1970 because of nervousness over its content) it was clear he was one to watch. His films were constantly challenging and provocative.
His is one of the great bodies of work by any director, including as it does, Walkabout (1971); Don’t Look Now (1973); The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976); Bad Timing (1980); Insignificance (1985); Castaway (1986); Track 29 (1988) and The Witches (1990) among others.
His career as a cinematographer was no less shabby either, including Lawrence of Arabia (2nd unit) (1962); Dr. Crippen (1962); The Masque of Red Death – Jane Asher among its cast (1964); Doctor Zhivago (sacked and uncredited) (1965); Fahrenheit 451 (1966); Casino Royale (additional cinematographer) (1967) and Far from the Maddening Crowd (1967).
One of cinema’s greats… and a sad loss.
RIP Nicolas Jack Roeg CBE BSC (15 August 1928 – 23 November 2018)

It shouldn’t come as a surprise given my age, but SpongeBob was a huge part of my childhood. I still enjoy the old episodes as a twenty-six year old. Thanks for the laughs.

Haha I was probably close to 36 when I first experienced SpongeBob! Made me laugh.
RIP SH (and Roeg)

Sad to hear of the death of founder member of the Buzzcocks, Pete Shelley, from a suspected heart attack aged just 63.
Born Peter Campbell McNeish, he and Howard Devoto formed one of the most important punk bands after seeing The Sex Pistols live. Devoto left the band shortly after the release of their first EP Spiral Scratch (which was the first release on an independent record label, sowing the seeds for the ’80s Indie movement). Shelley took over as lead vocalist and main songwriter, and was responsible for the band’s best-loved hits including What Do I Get? and the classic Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve).
One of the most important and influential figures in the punk movement, he’s a great loss.
RIP Peter Campbell McNeish (17 April 1955 – 6 December 2018).

I’m surprised to be the first one to say RIP to Penny Marshall, most famous as 1/2 of Laverne & Shirley. This picture represents a thin connection to the Beatles universe. In later episodes, they had a Beatle poster in their apartment. This was probably to let us know that show now takes place in the early 60s.
You are all my friends.

I was saddened to hear of the death of comedy actress Dame June Whitfield DBE on the 28th at the age of 93.
Her career lasted over five decades, from The Glums on radio in the 50s through to (what many of you younger folk may know her from) playing Edina’s mother in Absolutely Fabulous, seeing her make over 1300 radio and TV appearances, working with such British comic giants as Tony Hancock, Frankie Howerd, Ronnie Barker, Benny Hill, Bob Monkhouse and Tommy Cooper.
Dennis Norden once said of her:
The greatest of show business mysteries was how anyone could contemplate doing a comedy show without June Whitfield.
She was one of our great comedy actresses, and had her Beatles connection as she voiced Rupert’s Mother in Paul’s 1984 Rupert and the Frog Song animation:
RIP Dame June Rosemary Whitfield DBE (11 November 1985 – 28 December 2018).

Dean Ford, born Thomas McAleese, lead singer of Marmalade, has died at the age of 72.
Along with ‘Reflections Of My Life and ‘Rainbow’ which he wrote, they had a number 1 UK hit with a cover of Ob-la-di Ob-la-da on which I remember they changed the last line to ‘if you want some jam.. instead of ‘if you want some fun’. Reflections Of My Life went on to become a sort of unofficial song for Vietnam Vets although he said he never wrote it specifically for that reason. A great sixties Scottish band and singer RIP. 🙁
