Sorry to hear your news, @Expert Textpert. My sympathies.
Very sad to hear the news that (Bob Marley and the) Wailers’ keyboard player and occasional guitarist, Earl “Wya/Wire” Lindo, passed away in hospital in London on 4 September, aged 64.
A gifted musician, he was the first recruited backing musician for the Wailers, and remained with Bob right up until Bob’s death. He was an essential part of Marley’s sound, and so the sound of Jamaica.
Again, far too young.
RIP Earl, you made some of my favourite songs greater.

RIP Grant Hart of Husker Du, one of the best bands of the 80s and the only contemporary band I loved in 1985. Green Day, Nirvana and pop-punk in general owe a lot to that amazing trio. 57 is way too young…as always, F**K CANCER

Funnily enough, I think I just heard about them yesterday — Robert Plant had mentioned them in an interview from the eighties.

Yeah, I remember around the time of Now And Zen, he was often talking them up in interviews (he had an interest in modern underground sounds) but they’d already broken up the year previous.

Very sad to hear of the death of one the great American actors, Harry Dean Stanton, at the age of 91.
A favourite actor of many directors, you were almost always guaranteed that something would be good if Harry Dean was in it.
RIP Harry Dean.

RIP indeed…I just mentioned him to my aunt last weekend regarding another movie (she didn’t recognize the name, had to show her a picture on the phone so she could go “oh, THAT guy!”)

Hef was an interesting person, and I think of him from many different points of view.
1) A very interesting businessman, who managed to keep a porn magazine afloat during the 2000’s and 2010’s when many of them sunk. That by itself is ridiculously impressive.
2) A man who was very controlling and restrictive of his girlfriends, and wives. He used to treat them like they were his own objects, and playthings, and his alone. That side of him almost ruins the female liberation and empowerment side that Playboy had, in helping banish stereotypes, and showing that women could be sexy and own their bodies- particularly in the 60’s and 70’s, where women were being viewed as housewives and pretty little dollies.
3) A man who featured great articles in his magazine that spread information about news that was going on at the time, book reviews, interviews. He also helped gay rights, women’s rights, and civil rights- amongst many other campaigns.
He was definitely a figure of major importance in publication history, and he will be missed.
Playboy: Come for the boobs, stay for the articles.

^^Anyone who’s ever looked at a Playboy know that it’s the truth. Get the centerfold out of the way, and you’ll see there’s some pretty interesting pieces in the magazine. Some of my favourite authors wrote short stories for Playboy.

My next-door neighbour, Chris, passed away in hospital in the early hours of today.
Though we didn’t always get on, he was a good friend. It has been sad watching his decline over recent months. I last saw him about three weeks ago, and it was obvious that, though he’d been discharged from hospital, he didn’t have long left. Alongside the physical problems he had, he was also lost to dementia. The last time I saw him he thought I was his son, even though his son and grand-daughter were there.
Not a nice situation to see someone in. He went back into hospital a couple of days later.
Very sad, but relieved he is no longer suffering as he was.
RIP, Christopher Walter.
