Offline Sam Leach, Merseybeat promoter, passed away in the early hours 21 December, days after his 82nd birthday. He had been suffering from cancer and passed at home in Liverpool, as reported by the Echo.
Sam had the Tower Ballroom in New Brighton, among others venues, and put on The Beatles 40 times during 1961 and 1962, with several of the Tower concerts being co-promotions with Brian (though their early relationship was fractious as lines were defined) – including the “Little Richard at the Tower Ballroom”, which had The Beatles second on the bill.
He was an important figure during those pivotal years, at one time a possible manager, and someone who was behind many of their biggest pre-fame concerts by dint of having the Ballroom. The Beatles played there 27 times.
RIP Sam, with many thanks for your early support of, and belief in, the Boys .
Wish I could have seen even one of those gigs.

It’s not your fault, it’s just that by the time you were born, The Beatles had stopped touring. If it makes you feel better, I don’t think anyone on this forum has been to one of those shows.

Offline Status Quo’s Rick Parfitt has passed in hospital in Spain aged 68.
He died from a severe infection caused by complications with recent shoulder surgery.
What that man could do with three chords!

Come on though, 53 is still way too young. 🙁 This one hurt. Bowie hurt, Alan Rickman hurt, this one hurt really bad. He was only two years older than me!!
