In among my singles there’s a picture-disc of Silver Machine by Hawkwind that was pressed in the early ’80s (probably ’82). On the b-side, instead of 7×7 as it should have been, was The Beatles and Ask Me Why . One of my first proper Beatles collectables!

Offline Sad to hear of Lemmy’s passing.
I had a debate a month ago with some friends about who is one of the few last living rock legends- my vote was for Lemmy (sorry Paul and Ringo), he truly was the living image of a rock-star.

Offline Rest in peace John Bradbury, drummer for the Specials. This seems to have caught the internet on the hop as Lemmy died within the same period. But what a loss…the guys were recording a new album and this has probably killed the band. A master of ska, any bassplayer would be honoured to play in his pocket.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 
but I may have to get more specific in the future.

Robert Stigwood, Former Manager of Cream and the Bee Gees, Dies
Robert Stigwood, a manager who shepherded the careers of Cream and the Bee Gees before producing a string of smash musicals and films, has died at 81.
Stigwood began working with Cream in 1966, the same year he briefly lured the Who away from Brunswick Records long enough to record “Substitute” for his label Reaction Records. Stigwood produced Cream’s self-titled debut, also releasing it on Reaction, before signing a new distribution deal with Polydor that brought producer Felix Pappalardi on board in time for 1967’s celebrated Disreali Gears.
That same year, Stigwood merged his first company with NEMS, which was founded by Beatles‘ manager Brian Epstein. But Epstein’s sudden death led Stigwood to form another venture, the Robert Stigwood Organisation. By then, he was already managing the Bee Gees. Later, he’d oversee Eric Clapton‘s post-Cream career (including the all-star band Blind Faith) as his company began producing theatrical hits such as Hair, Oh! Calcutta!, Pippin and Evita.
Stigwood added movie successes with the release of Saturday Night Fever (which featured principal musical contributions from the Bee Gees), Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy and Grease. He also launched the RSO Records label to handle recordings by artists like Clapton, including the initially slow-selling, but now widely hailedLayla and Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek and the Dominoes and the soundtracks for Fame and The Empire Strikes Back.
His notable stumbles include the 1978 film version of Sgt. Pepper ’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, another vehicle for the Bee Gees, as well as the sequels to Saturday Night Fever and Grease. Stigwood bounced back in the late ’90s, however, with the 1996 big-screen adaptation of Evita starring Madonna that won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture.

Offline Not sure if it was posted on here but I make no apologies if it was. Kenneth Partridge who decorated many houses of the famous including John, Ringo and Brian’s died on the 21st December 2015 aged 89.

Offline Robert Balser, one of the two animation directors on Yellow Submarine, passed away on Monday (4 January) in a Los Angeles hospital at the age of 88 following complications from respiratory failure.

January 10 2016David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.

I’m genuinely in tears here. I came downstairs, put the radio on, and 6 Music was playing Satellite of Love. There was clearly something of a Bowie tribute happening, and I thought it was a Blackstar special day of programming. Then the presenter came on and sounded like he was only just holding it together.
I’m so sad. Bowie’s music has been there all my life. My clear vinyl copy of Blackstar has been delayed, and its arrival will be bittersweet. What a legacy of music he left. Nobody else came close.
In my job I’ve banned my team from using the words seminal, iconic and legendary in features, because they’re so often misapplied and bandied around indiscriminately. Bowie really was all those things, and so much more.
Not much of a tribute, I know, but today the music will be doing the talking. Rest in peace, David.

Offline …and then I came back from a meeting at work and my copy of Blackstar was waiting on my desk. That’s what I’ll be playing tonight. I’d deliberately held off streaming it, apart from Lazarus and Blackstar, until I had the full album.
BBC 6 Music is playing some incredible music today. Lots of Bowie, plenty of interview clips, plus collaborations, cover versions, songs he gave away. Life On Mars? is playing right now. This was the first single I ever bought, aged 4 in 1980 (a cover version, but never mind):

I won’t profess to be a fan or anything, but I’m still pretty saddened by the news, as I know many of our favourite Forumpudlians are quite fond of David Howie.
I admit the first thing I thought when I saw it, after ‘What?! How could that be possible?!’ was, ‘Oh, poor Joe and Zig.’
