Warren Mitchell.
RIP
Also perhaps some people here might remember Warren Mitchell who played Alf Garnett….The inspiration for America’s show Archie Bunker. He had a good innings but died on Saturday………He was a great actor and very funny man. I loved his show at the time…….Quite daring for the sixties……The clash of the rightist of right-wing Alf…..and his left of Marx son-in-law played by Tony Booth ………(Father of Cherie Blaire).
The only line I recall was…..
‘Ghandi ……Bleeding Gahndi. He wouldn’t eat ‘is dinner so they gave ‘im India!”
Warren appeared as Abdul in ‘Help ‘ and has another very tenuous link, with the Beatles that’s perhaps of little interest, even here, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.
Mickey Dolenez of the Monkees woke one day to hear ‘Alf’ on the telly screaming to his son-in-law…..”Randy Scouse git”
This inspired Mickey to write a song of the same name……Which was about a party he’d attended with the Beatles, (The Kings of EMI were sitting stately on the floor)……..But when his US record company learned what ‘Randy scouse git’ actually meant they insisted on an ‘Alternate title’ …..So that’s what he called it.

…and here it is
Alf Garnett was brilliant. He helped you understand that bigots are actually in pain and terrified of everything that’s not them, he made you laugh and almost pity them. RIP.

The only error in @Wigwam’s account of Randy Scouse Git is about Alternate Title. Alternate Title was only used because RCA in the UK objected to the title. The American releases generally named it Alternate Title (Randy Scouse Git).

I agree the trick was ‘Alf’ was in pain…..ranting at and resenting all the things that had changed and were changing around him that he knew he couldn’t resist. That his generation were being pushed aside and the future they’d imagined during the euphoria of the end of WWII was proving to be very different to what they’d envisioned. Not least Britain’s diminishing importance……..It’s almost irrelevance in the world. Bullied by De Gaul, dominated by America and riven with strikes…..
The wonderful cultural explosion of the 60’s ushered in by long-haired randy Scouse gits like The Beatles was little compensation to Alf’s generation.
England winning the World-Cup and his beloved Hammers…..(that club scarf ever round his neck) was all he had left to cheer about.
He made you laugh but he engendered pity….not only in his character but perhaps some self-pity in his audience too.
You believed in ‘Alf’ because of Warren’s portrayal……and the chord it struck in a whole passing generation.
And now it’s my generation’s turn.

Scott Weiland, Former Singer of Stone Temple Pilots, Dead at 48
Scott Weiland, the former frontman for rock bands Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver , had died, according to reports.
Dave Navarro, guitarist and member of Jane’s Addiction, tweeted at 9:01 p.m. PST “our friend Scott Weiland has died.”
Weiland and his latest band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, are scheduled to tour this month with upcoming dates at Reno, NV on Dec. 18 and City Winery in Napa on Dec. 19.
Billboard has not confirmed the death of the singer, who turned 48 on Oct. 27. Weiland long suffered from substance abuse issues.
This story is developing.

Lemmy of Motorhead has died after losing his battle with cancer.
My memory of Motorhead is their appearance on ‘The Young Ones’ (a 1980’s BBC comedy) where they performed ‘Ace Of Spades, of which Wiki writes
In February 1984, the Lemmy, Campbell, Würzel, and Taylor line-up recorded “Ace of Spades” for the “Bambi” episode in the British television series, The Young Ones. Scenes of the band playing are interspersed with the characters’ antics as they rush to the railway station, in a parody of The Beatles’ comedy film A Hard Day’s Night .
I never new.
Just goes to show that you cannot escape The Beatles.
Here’s the clip

My husband and I were just talking about Lemmy two days ago when we watching my Beatles 1+ blu ray. We seen this documentary on him a few years ago and found he was a huge Beatles fan. He saw them at The Cavern. We got to thinking of maybe he bought this boxset as well (watch the clip below to understand).
Here is a clip of him talking about them and buying the mono boxset a few years ago.
My husband, being more of the metalhead than me, was a huge fan of Lemmy.
RIP Lemmy
