Yesterday I kept looking at her Wikipedia page. I guess somewhere in my mind I was hoping it wasn’t true. RIP Cyn

The great Percy Sledge has left the building.
So sad!
One of the greatest voices we’ve known, now still.
RIP Percy, thanks for all the joy you’ve given me!

Jack Rieley, former manager for the Beach Boys , has passed. Brian Wilson posted this on Facebook:
“I’m sad to hear about Jack Rieley passing away last Friday. Jack was our manager in the early 1970s and helped us a lot. He wrote the lyrics for “A Day In The Life of a Tree” which blew me away. I also had Jack sing the lead on that one because his voice seemed to fit the song. Jack was a real force on our “Surf’s Up” and “Holland” albums and I’ll always remember his kindness. My thoughts go out to Jack’s family and friends.
– Love and Mercy, Brian”

It has been announced that the legendary Ben E. King passed on Thursday at the age of 76.
Always a great favourite with The Beatles (with The Drifters and solo), especially John, the music world is so much poorer for his loss.
With his loss, and the loss of Percy Sledge a couple of weeks ago, there’s not many of the great soul voices left.
Raise a glass in honour of the giant that was Ben E. King, and listen to some of those great sounds he’s left us with…
RIP Ben, and thanks for everything.

A bit late, but I was watching my Micallef Tonight DVDs and he interviewed Percy Sledge back in 2003. As Percy put it, When A Man Loves A Woman came about because he got drunk and just sang what he felt.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

Grace Lee Whitney, Yeoman Rand on Original ‘Star Trek,’ Dies
Grace Lee Whitney, 85, the futuristic-clipboard-bearing Yeoman Janice Rand on the original series of “Star Trek,” died this weekend in the town of Coarsegold, California, her family confirmed. No cause of death was reported.
Whitney, a recovering alcoholic, spent the last 35 years of her life helping others with addiction problems, often at women’s correctional facilities or the Salvation Army, her family said. They said she was credited with having helped thousands of people successfully complete 12-step addiction programs.
Until just the last few years, Whitney was also a regular at “Star Trek” conventions around the world. She titled her autobiography “The Longest Trek.”
Whitney was born Mary Ann Chase in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1930, and was raised by an adoptive family. After several years as a dancer with big bands, she was cast as Janice Rand, a Star Fleet yeoman who was personal assistant to William Shatner’s Capt. James T. Kirk, in the first season of the original 1966-to-1969 run of “Star Trek.”
When the series was reborn as a movie franchise in 1979, Whitney returned, now promoted to chief petty officer, in “Star Trek: The Motion Picture.” By the time she made her last appearance as Rand, in “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country,” in 1991, she had made it to lieutenant.
As closely identified with Yeoman Rand as she was, however, her family stressed Sunday that Whitney’s preference would be to be remembered as a “successful survivor of addiction.”
“Grace experienced 35 years of sobriety through continuous fellowship with others and through God and Jesus,” they said.
RIP
