The great Reg Presley, lead singer of The Troggs has died today. Not only did he give us the definitive Wild Thing, but also great originals like Love Is All Around. Also the outtake without which Spinal Tap would not have happened, an outtake referred to as The Troggs’ Tapes. If you haven’t heard it, go to YouTube now and type in “The Troggs Tapes”, and have you ears opened. Another legend done gone!

Ok, i posted this with a link to a youtube video of Wild Thing about 30 mins ago and its vanished.
Some of the Troggs music was fantastic and that tape that mja mentioned is quite the listen. A 60’s great and a very pleasant, friendly man in interviews he gave that ive seen. Will be missed by many.

This link still seems to be up to the greatest version of Wild Thing by the late, great Reg Presley and The Troggs:

I should add, if you have a problem with obscene language at its most extreme, don’t go near The Troggs Tapes.

Caught this on the news as I was running out the house this morning, made me stop in my tracks. RIP Reg.
What has remained with me throughout the day is that he died of cancer. I wish we could find more effective treatment for it ´cause that´s someone else. How many more??

Anyone who likes “Wild Thing” and Hendrix should check out his version at Monterrey Pop.
It’s not artistically very exciting, but it provides the classic guitar-burning moment.

RIP Reg – he always had a uniquely sleazy whine of a voice.
I admit to never, ever liking their “Wild Thing” (Jimi’s version was the first I ever heard/saw, and still the only one for me), but the Troggs had lots of fine jams better than that one, particularly the extremely metallic “Feels Like A Woman ” (done with Black Sabbath producer Rodger Bain) and “Can’t Control Myself”.
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.
My favourite aspect of the Troggs’ Tape is that they were trying to record a song called Tranquility at the time.
