Having only listened to Piper to Ummagumma so far and the really commercial Pink Floyd songs, I have to say I actually prefer some of the early psychedelic stuff, especially Astronomy Domine which, as the first song I heard, I was blown away!

That’s great @Thommo! If you dig the early stuff, I can highly recommend watching the movie Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii, they perform some of their early songs in an abandoned, empty amphitheatre in Pompeii and the setting as well as the music, of course, add up to a truly overwhelming psychedelic experience. @Beatlebug has recommended it to me and I’m really glad she did.
But you should probably listen to Echoes first, before you watch it.

@Thommo Well, Live At Pompeii is a pretty good introduction to the material, so I don’t think it’s imperative that you hear the studio recording of ‘Echoes’ before you see the film. But you should listen to Meddle anyway, along with everything else.
Thanks for spreading the word @Martha.

A lot of people attribute all of the early Floyd greatness to Syd, but Rick Wright was commanded the keyboard throughout the entire discography, cranking out classics like Astronomy Domine, Echoes, Shine On, and even Time! As you progress further into the band, you’ll soon see and value him just as much as anybody in Pink Floyd.

^ Yes, Rick Wright was the true master of the Pink Floyd Sound. For that and other reasons, he’s kinda my favourite Floyd… that is, when I’m not busy fangirling over David Gilmour because I’m a guitarist and that’s what I do.

Apparently Floyd think it’s fine to take public domain content, embed it in their product and run around the internet policing it:

Really really poor form
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Favourite Album and track from it; Wish You Were Here. Followed very closely by Animals much darker in content but fantastic in both lyrics and musically. It’s so tight a concept album, it all flows together but best track; Pigs (Three Different Ones).

Fearless is a very good, rather underrated/underknown song. Good to see it getting some love.

Although I’ve also been feeling ‘Breathe (In The Air)’ has been my number one lately. {honourable mentions edited out because I’d be here all day if I started in on them}
I just came here to observe that early Pink Floyd (currently The Early Years: 1969 Dramatis/ation) is really good background music for writing an essay on early human evolution. It’s just got a kind of prehistoric primitive feel to it.

It’s so relaxing. I’m glad I stumbled across it.
