Recently, I was having a conversation about Pig Latin with Funny Paper, and I started thinking, hey, maybe other people will want to learn/have a conversation about Pig Latin. So, post about Pig Latin on this thread. Maybe you want to learn what Pig Latin is and how it works. Maybe you want to know what your favorite word or phrase or sentence would be in Pig Latin. Try posting something in Pig Latin and see if other people can figure out what it says!

What does this mean?

Ummingdray isay ymay iddlemay amenay.

-Ingoray Arrstay

Ohhhh, now I get it. By the way, Uitargay isway YMAY iddlemay amenay.

"I'd tell her I love her, but she'd only reject me in the end and I'd be frustrated. That's why I play guitar; it's my active compensatory factor" -Ringo said something like this once, I changed it up a bit.

Since Pig Latin adds extra syllables, it might take a little “cheating” to translate a Beatles song in to (not cheating with the rules of Pig Latin, but with the lyrics themselves).

The inherent “yay” possibility that crops up in Pig Latin felicitously helps with one particular song:

Ee-shay oves-lay oo-yay, oo-yay, oo

Ee-shay oves-lay oo-yay, oo-yay, oo!

Otherwise, one can just try to double up the speed of singing to fit in the extra syllables.

ELP-HAY!  I-ay eed-nay omebody-say!

ELP-HAY!  Ot-nay nybody-ay!

ELP-HAY! Oo-yay ow-knay eed-nay omeone-say!

ELLLLLLLLLP-HAY!

And finally, most appropriately:

Everywhere-ay ere’s-thay ots-lay iggies-pay
Iving-lay iggy-pay ives-lay
Oo-yay an-cay ee-say em-thay out-ay or-fay inner-day
Ith-way eir-thay iggy-pay ives-way
Utching-clay orks-fay and-ay ives-knay —

OO-TAY EAT-AY EIR-THAY ACON-BAY!

(that line “Utching-clay orks-fay and-ay ives-knay” almost sounds Shakespearean!)

Faded flowers, wait in a jar, till the evening is complete... complete... complete... complete...

@Funny Paper:

Good idea! :)

Here’s one:

Umber-nay ine-nay, umber-nay ine-nay, umber-nay ine-nay… (etc.)

En-thay ere’s-thay is-thay Elsh-way Arebit-ray earing-way ome-say own-bray underpants-ay
…About-ay e-thay ortage-shay of-ay ain-gray in-ay Ertfordshire-hay
Everyone-ay of-ay em-thay ew-knay at-thay as-ay ime-tay ent-way y-bay ey’d-thay
Et-gay a-ay ittle-lay it-bay older-ay and-ay a-ay ittle-lay it-bay ower-slay ut-bay…
It’s-ay all-ay e-thay ame-say ing-thay, in-ay is-thay ase-cay anufactured-may y-bay
Omeone-say o’s-whay always-ay umpteen-ay (…)
Our-yay ather’s-fay iving-gay it-ay iddly-day i-ay ee-day istrict-day as-way eaving-lay…
Intended-ay o-tay ie-day (…) Ottoman-ay…
(…)…Ong-lay one-gay ough-thray…(…)
I’ve-ay ot-gay o-tay ay-say irritably-ay and-ay…
(…) Oors-flay, ard-hay enough-ay o-tay ut-pay on-ay (…) Er-pay ay’s-day in-ay our-ay istrict-day
Ere-thay as-way ot-nay eally-ray enough-ay ight-lay o-tay et-gay own-day,
And-ay ultimately-ay (…) Umped-slay own-day
Uddenly-say…
Ey-thay ay-may op-stay e-thay unding-fay…
Ace-play our-yay ets-bay
E-thay original-ay
Afraid-ay e’ll-say ie-day (…)
Eat-gray olours-cay or-fay e-thay eason-say
Umber-nay ine-nay, umber-nay nine-nay
O’s-whay ot-tay ow-knay?
O-whay as-way o-tay ow-knay?

All right, you know what? I don’t have the time or patience to continue translating this into Pig Latin. Here’s the rest of the lyrics (if you can call them lyrics) anyway:

Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine
Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine
Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine
I sustained nothing worse than (…)
Also, for example
Whatever you’re doing
A business deal falls through
I informed him on the third night, when fortune gives…
Be alright, be alright
Right, right, right, right
Right
Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine
Ri-i-i-i-ight
Ri-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-ight
Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine
(…) I’ve missed all of that
It makes me a few day’s late
Compared with, like, wow!
And weird stuff like that…
(…) Taking our sides sometimes
(…) Floral bark
Rouge doctors have brought this specimen
I have nobody’s shortcuts, aha…
Nine, number nine
(…) With the situation
They are standing still
The plan, the telegram…
(Hubbbbba, hubbbbba, hubbbbbba, hubbbbba, hubbbbba
Number nine, number Hubbba)
A man without terrors from beard to false
As the headmaster reported to my son
He really can try, as they do, to find function…
Tell what he was saying, and his voice was low and his hive high,
And his eyes were low…
Alright!
It was on fire and his glasses were the same
This thing know if it was tinted,
But you know it isn’t
To me it is…
Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine
Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine
Number nine, number nine, number nine
So the wife called me and we’d better go to see a surgeon
to price it (…) Yellow underclothes
So, any road, we went to see a dentist instead
That gave her a pair of teeth which wasn’t any good at all
So I said I’d marry, join the navy and went to sea
Block that kick, block that kick
In my broken chair, my wings are broken and so is my hair
I’m not in the mood for whirling
How?
Dogs for dogging, hands for clapping
Bird’s for birding, and fish for fishing
Them for themming and when for whenning
…Only to find the night-watchman
Unaware of his presence in the building
Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine
Number nine, number nine
Industry allows financial imbalance
Thrusting it bewteen his shoulder blades
The watusi, the twist
Eldorado
Take this, brother, may it serve you well
Maybe it’s nothing
What, what oh…
Maybe, even then, impervious in London
…Could be difficult thing…
It’s quick like rush for peace because it’s so much
Like being naked
It’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright
It’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright
It’s alright
If, you become naked
Block that kick, block that kick, block that kick, block that kick
Block that kick, block that kick, block that kick, block that kick
Block that kick, block that kick, block that kick, block that kick
Block that kick, block that kick, block that kick, block that kick

Wow, you really are fluent!  I wouldn’t have the patience to even do half of that.  The more I think about it, the less it seems that a song’s lyrics is amenable to the translation — only certain phrases or lines maybe that generate something funny; but for the most part that doubling up of syllables tends to ruin the melodic rhythm & meter.

I can speak pig latin, but I don’t like it because it takes too much time to think about what I’m supposed to say, and then I end up sounding stupid when I talk. It’s easier to understand other people speak it than it is for me to attempt to speak it.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-4Hmm… I wonder if Pig Latin is related to “Pig German” in Finnish? Just that in Pig German, there are no rules which means… No message.
