Brainwashing…..A view.

I’ll set about this slowly…….

Part 1.

I doubt anyone here has ever heard of Nicholas Mercator…….

But the world owes him debt……You see if not for Mercator and his book on ‘Infinite series’ sparking the interest of a young very averagely performing student at Cambridge the world might be a different place……….

Now when I say ‘young’ the bubonic plague had intervened and slowed down this modest achievers rate of study…..after his initial 3 years he’d graduated with distinctly average results. By the time he came across Mercator’s book he was 27……He couldn’t understand it….at first…..He decided he wanted to.

When he’d arrived at Cambridge he’d studied without much enthusiasm  Natural Philosophy….an area of thought and study still dominated by the teachings of Aristotle…….

Basically he couldn’t be arsed to put in much effort and he spent most of his time working on his own ideas and absorbing alone the work of more recent scientists and the philosophy of Descartes……….Mercantor’s book had fascinated and galvanised him and without reference to any of the received wisdom of his tutors to hold him back…..This young man set to work alone……..and began to formulate his own original ideas……

His name was Issac.

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Indeed a touching story….I’ve filled up!

Yes she went on to ‘pull off’ many wonderful political achievements……

I’m sure you can list them all for us…… either alphabetically or chronologically…….

Easy to do…..there were only 3……

Of the bills Clinton sponsored, only three actually became law. One established a historic site in New York, one renamed a post office and one named a highway.

I’m a bit confused, @QuarryMan, I assume you were being sarcastic with that post? Hillary Clinton is much older than Beyonce.

Don’t worry, while I’m certainly not a fan of Mr Trump, you won’t find any Clinton defence from me. She is the definition of the swamp.

I think Clinton represented the corrupt suits that wanted to preserve and extend the long line of normality and empty politics that many wanted to see the back of. As much as I detest him and everything he stands for, Trump represented an alternative to that.

I’d have no idea who I would have voted for in the election as I doubt I’d have been able to edge for either.

It’s the same in the UK just now as there is no way I can ever vote Conservative, Labour is an utter shambles of a party with nothing of anything to vote for, the Lib Dems Brexit policy is completely unjustifiable, SNP has an awful record on many things in Scotland due to focusing most of their energy on Independence, and the Greens are just existing without much if any purpose.

Brexit Party?

Their leader has been the most influential politician in the last 20 years……..Without ever being an MP.

I would’ve voted for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson if i was old enough to vote. Trump and Hillary are both terrible politicians (right wing, pro-war, inconsistent, anti-free speech, authoritarian, etc.) and while Jill Stein’s 100x better than both of them, she’s besties with Putin.

I always forget to do that but I should really try to remember… my crappy school WiFi deletes the post maybe 1/3 of the time.

Had anyone else noticed that we haven’t had any post stealing in a while? Maybe the problem was fixed a-hard-days-night-george-9

No way i’m voting for a boring right wing authoritarian who’s stupid enough to say “this is the most racist we’ve been in my lifetime” despite growing up in a time where black people were considered 2nd class citizens.

I’ll probably vote for Bill Weld in the primaries and if he loses, i’ll vote either Bernie or Yang during the election and if neither of those candidates make it, i won’t vote.

Brainwashing Part 2

Isaac went on to do rather well you’ll recall…..In fact by the time he died….. this in turn normal then bitter old man was considered the father of the scientific Revolution …….Calculating the ellipsis of planets and how gravity worked on them….. the swellings of the earth at the equator..the flattening of the earth at the poles…..The 3 laws of motion…..his work on the spectrum…..colour…..refraction…. calculous…… his Principia  Mathematica……and many other Principias to boot.

His vicious battles with Hooke, and Flamsted…….and others ……(he never saw science as a collegiate profession)……His tyrannical and autocratic rule and nastiness to younger scientists…….Meant that he kept himself aloof from the herd…….

Although it can be argued he sometimes used others research as a basis for his own…..His major work on gravity had absolutely no parallel in his age and has stood up well until Einstein’s 20th Century introduction of the concept of relativity……..That relationships were not absolute and fixed.

Newton might not have been surprised by what Einstein discovered : In his later life, when asked for an assessment of his achievements, he replied,

“I do not know what I may appear to the world; but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself Now And Then in finding a smoother pebble or prettier shell than ordinary, while the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.”

My point, remember that this is about ‘brainwashing’ This Boy didn’t play well with others……He did his own thinking……He didn’t care to get an ‘A’ for his essays by repeating what the herd thought…….when his thoughts would have gotten him a ‘D’

Probably thank his crankiness on his mother who deserted him at 3……..Reminds me of someone else we all know rather better……
