There always seems to be a story along these lines every September (i.e. when the new school academic year begin in the UK). I’m all for school uniforms because it means children are less at risk of being stigmatised for not wearing the latest designer fashion. I’m sure the school in Lewes made their decision because they thought they were protecting their students from inappropriate attention etc, but as with everything, you’ll never please everybody and the ones who complain the most or vent their anger are the ones who are going to get the attention.
Personally, I blame Britney Spears for the sexualisation of school uniforms, and whilst I don’t necessarily think skirts should be banned, I’m willing to support the idea if it annoys Piers Morgan.

As for dresses/skirts, i’d prefer if they had it no higher than halfway between knee and ankle and NO slits whatsoever.
Oh yeah? And what gives you the authority to make that decision? If a girl wants to wear a knee-length skirt to school, I really don’t see the problem with that, and since this issue wouldn’t affect you I don’t see why it matters so much. (If you do like to wear dresses or skirts, no one will force you to wear a skirt that’s shorter than you want it to be, so why make silly rules about other people?)
School uniforms/sexist dress codes are kind of my soapbox

The photo’s most likely fake, especially considering the general’s hand is uncomfortably close to one of them.
Wait a second, you’re saying that women in the police force wouldn’t be able to run around with F cups?!? Those large balls of fat are surely very functional and wouldn’t cause back pain?!?!
On the skirts issue- I wear dresses every single day. Last wore a pair of trousers about 8 years ago, dresses are so much more convenient for me than trousers AND it looks like I’ve made an effort when I get dressed, when I literally threw it on in 5 seconds. If someone told me I had to wear trousers because lads can’t control their dicks, I’d be very unimpressed- you can’t tell me I HAVE to wear something because the boys might have filthy thoughts if they see my….knees :O .
I like the ideas of uniforms as a whole and I think girls should be given the option to wear skirts and trousers (so should the lads as well but I can’t imagine an Irish boy would be seen dead in a skirt, unless he was sloshed and he was on a stag do).

Just a preference for schoolchildren since you can still see their underwear in a knee length skirt if you try hard enough. If that doesn’t bother them, then they should have the right to wear a knee length skirt.
Also, this isn’t sexist since neither boys nor girls can wear dresses/skirts.

There have been multiple times at school where a boy, whilst wearing shorts, has ‘manspread’ and I’ve seen his underwear. Should we ban shorts too, so everyone can overheat and not concentrate properly?

Good point but men often wear longer underwear then women. If a man was wearing underwear as short as women’s, you wouldn’t see it through the legs of his pants.
Also, i never said we should ban skirts/dresses, i’d just prefer if schoolgirls wore longer dresses because i don’t want schoolboys or teachers* to try and see what’s up there. If a student doesn’t care, they should have every right to wear a knee length dress/skirt. Hell, if a schoolgirl wants to wear just a T shirt and panties, she should be allowed to. The only rule should be that their breasts/nipples, buttocks, and genitals are covered, anything else should be a suggestion.
*It’s less likely that a teacher would do this but it’s possible and when it happens, it’s far worse.

And while there’s been lots of reference to boys reactions to girls in skirts, it can’t be ignored that there are girls who are totally aware of the effect they’re having on boys and play on it.
My little sister was one, always wanting to wear the shortest skirts possible because she enjoyed the attention it got her from boys.
I’m not suggesting she was a slut or anything. She ended up marrying, after a few break-ups, her first boyfriend. I’m just suggesting that both sexes are becoming aware of sex and attraction in their teenage years, and that both sexes are aware of it, and that it’s best kept out of being a distraction in the classroom.

As we are interestingly looking at general male/female fashion issues…….
Here’s an intriguing though unfortunately unillustrated pot history of fashion……
We mostly know all this from Hollywood ……Pirates dripping in ear-rings and preened up…..Men wore high heels first, make-up etc
I learned from this in particular that the separation of the sexes in terms of crossover clothing…..didn’t happen so much until Beau Brummell …….

What are your thoughts on D.C. and Puerto Rico statehood:
For D.C., i think that the land should be returned to Maryland instead of making it a new state, with enclaves for important buildings like the White House and Supreme Court, in order to prevent one state from having all the power.
As for Puerto Rico, i think it should be it’s own independent nation. However, if the option for independence is on the ballot (which wasn’t the case for Alaska or Hawaii) but the people vote otherwise, i’m fine with that as well.

I think Puerto Rico should have a referendum on whether they want to be independent or part of the USA. As for DC, I thought the point was that they weren’t a state because giving all the major government buildings and such to one state might be biased?

That’s why i suggested those buildings should still be stateless, but the rest of DC should return to Maryland. This would mean that citizens of DC would get all of the benefits of statehood while no state gets all the power, the only flaw being that Maryland would have a lot of enclaves within it.

OOh sorry I missed that part I’m not sure though, that seems like it would be very complicated. Do you mean the whole mall would be an enclave? Because I’m in DC right now and it seems like government buildings and embassies are spread throughout the city, or at least the central part.
