@Ron Nasty i was planning on having the discussion flow like a medley.Anyways, i thought i’d point out that sometimes the teacher really shouldn’t be teaching kids certain things or will do it with a bias in order to further their political agenda. A perfect example of this is teaching pre-pubescent kids about LGBT issues.
Why not? I didn’t know that homosexuality was a thing until I was in sixth grade and I really wish someone had explained things to me sooner.

I’m fine with kids knowing that it’s okay for 2 men to love each other but anything beyond that is too much. People often forget that homosexuality has to do with sex and children under the age of 13 shouldn’t be having or learning about sex.
As for transgender-ism, it’s a grey area issue to begin with so teaching it to kids is a definite no, especially considering that people make a lot of stupid choices as a kid that they regret as an adult and the transgender suicide rate is pretty high.

Should I be able to take my kid out of class based on the fact that one of the classmates is a muslim?
Should I be able to take my kid out of class based on the sexual orientation of my teacher?
No. And children would choose where ever their friends are.

Interesting point of view there… As for homosexuality, I wasn’t really referring to the sex part of it, I didn’t even know that it was possible for two people of the same sex to be romantically attracted to one another. And like I said, I really wish someone had bothered to tell me.
As for transgender-ism, it’s a grey area issue to begin with so teaching it to kids is a definite no, especially considering that people make a lot of stupid choices as a kid that they regret as an adult and the transgender suicide rate is pretty high.
I don’t see why kids shouldn’t learn about it. It’s good to be informed.
Oh, and good points Starr Shine?, I agree with you.

So learning about two women isn’t ok? And not everyone has puberty at the same time so some early bloomers won’t know what’s up.
And not teaching kids about transgenderism doesn’t stop kids from being transgender. Better to know and get support.

And parents would be better at being non bias?

@Beatlebug, I saw that you thanked Dark Overlords post, what are your thoughts on this? I recall you mentioned that you are homeschooled so you probably have a different perspective on the issue.

Oh, I have thoughts all right but I’m still organising them. I want to sit down and make a nice long ranty post that covers all the bases and tries to consider all the angles, not piss anybody off, and ends up pleasing no one but myself because that’s what I do best. Post forthcoming…

Politics in general are very stressful and messy. The addition of political parties makes it even more complicated. Why can’t people just represent their own beliefs instead of an entire party’s? Why can’t we just vote for the people whose views we agree with, no matter what party they represent?

Cause of gerrymandering. Remove that and the candidates will be more moderate.
And cause everyone else is voting parties. Voting third party is detrimental to what you want.

What someone misses when they sleep for 8 hours!
Teach them about LGBTQI+ issues when they’re not much older than. For people like myself with family members in the community (uncles) I learnt pretty early on that the world will still go around. To then wait 7 years to teach the others is ridiculous.
As for politics: I’m so glad we have preferential voting in Australia. That means we have 4% of the house of reps represented by minor parties.

Forgot to mention that. Two men, two women, and a man and a woman.

Not at all, just look at Alex Jones’ kid. But i’d rather have just biased parents than biased parents and biased teacher.

I couldn’t agree more, that’s why i wish 3rd parties were taken more seriously. My party of choice is Libertarian, since they believe in both personal freedoms and a limited government.

I don’t know how it works where you live, but our sex education programme was when we were 10/11. By that point I’m pretty sure everyone but the most innocent children knew what sex was; it was the subject of everyone’s immature jokes about it. That was a healthy age to learn about it in my opinion – not too late but not too early, and still a looong way off from any of it being a reality.
With the issues being as prevalent as they are in culture at the moment, the kids are always going to find about it from a parent or older sibling or someone, and tell their classmates. You’ve got the choice to either have comprehensive education on it, or you can just allow this minefield of urban myth where kids will believe whatever they’re told about it, and considering how impressionable kids can be, often hold their prejudices into later life.
Also, I resent the suggestion that the transgender suicide rate is because of people regretting their choice to come out or transition. It’s more about the huge levels of transphobia that the community experiences even today, to the point where trans people are cast out by their friends and family, fired at their job, or denied proper medical care just for being who they are.

I had sex ed at around the same age as you did and even after that, i still didn’t know what sex was until high school when one of my friends showed me porn for the first time because i simply wasn’t ready and didn’t care at that age.
As for why the trans suicide rate is so high, it’s hard to say, either one of us could be right.
