When mail carriers try to cram packages in the mailbox that are really far too large to fit, and you have to stand next to the road with cars whistling by your ears wrestling with the mail.
Or this one – our mail carrier brings the larger packages up to our front door, but leaves the rest of the mail in the mailbox.

Here’s one that I’ve only ever seen in Irish, no other language and it annoys the hell out of me and it is this:
Translating the names of people.
I was reading an essay about 16th century Ireland and I met this person called “Annrai VIII”, I stared at it for 10 seconds thinking “who the *beep* is Annrai?”, then I realised it was meant to be Henry VIII.
SO WHY THE HELL DID YOU TRANSLATE HIS NAME?!? If you called him “Annrai”- he’d have no clue what you were talking about and your head might have become detached from your body because of it!
A lot of Irish speaking teens when talking in Irish call Michael Jackson- Mícheál (Me-hawl- the Irish for ‘Michael’) Jackson- once again Mícheál Jackson, a famous entertainer doesn’t exist, whereas Michael Jackson does.
You don’t see the Italians calling him “Michele” because his name isn’t *beeping* “Michele”- so why would you call him Mícheál in Irish, eejits.
You call the person, the name that they were given at birth/legally changed to/prefer to be called not some stupid translation.
Oh yes and that goes for anyone who calls me my “Irish name”, I always correct them- my name is Katie not Cáit- I introduced myself as Katie therefore I prefer to be called Katie- when I talk to Germans they don’t call me Katja, they call me Katie , so don’t call me Cáit. I don’t mind my surname being in Irish because it originally was (many, many generations ago mind) but I was originally a *insert ASJ’s Irish surname here* so feel free to call me Úll Óg Ní Bhaic
….t***s
(There’s my rant-of-the-day over, I feel much happier now )
Edit: And Cromwell just became ‘Cromail’ he would have hated his name to be in Irish though so I’m kind of alright with his being translated…the bast*rd 🙂 .

This happens a lot in anime. Ash’s name in Japan is Satoshi.

I couldn’t agree more. I hate when people try to translate names. I don’t watch a lot of anime, but I do play a lot of video games, and that happens all the freaking time. Bowser’s name is actually King Koopa, and Goombas are called Kuribohs (Kuriboh means Chestnut boy)

Why can’t people just keep it as it originally was? I’ve never experienced it myself, but I could imagine it being quite annoying. Do people just want the name to sound more “creative” or something?

I don’t know. I think a lot of times the do it so kids will understand it better. Most little kids I know wouldn’t be able to pronounce “Satoshi”, but they can all pronounce “Ash’. I thinks it’s just a matter of making the TV show/movie/game/whatever more accessible and comfortable to an American audience. Sometimes, I think name translation can be good though. For instance, a lot of Japanese games have you playing as a character named “Shujinko”, which literally means “main protagonist”.

Gah I should have added I mean actual real people, I don’t mind fictional characters being translated (particularly for books, shows etc. aimed at children) but why in God ‘s name would you feel the need to translate an actual, historical figure’s name is beyond me!

I was doing German work for my students or whatever the hell I’m supposed to call them. I had a full page written and my f**king laptop decided to without warning just shut down- I lost everything and now I have to do the damn thing again!
My printer is out of ink so I was going to leave school early tomorrow and go to the library and print them all so it’s not like I can redo the lost-sheets tomorrow- f**k this f**king laptop!

One recent pet peeve of mine: people that don’t stop doing or saying something annoying to you and you tell them to stop, and they never do. If I’ve been telling you to “Stop doing/saying that, it’s really annoying” for months, you better stop or else you’re day isn’t going to end well. Like, seriously, all you have to do is stop saying or doing a certain thing, it’s not that difficult

One of my students was meant to come here at 5pm for a lesson, 40 minutes later they’re a no-show.
No phone-call, no text, not even a bloody Facebook message- they just didn’t show up.
Good God , I’m grand with them not turning up but the fact that they didn’t tell me is just annoying- I had all of their stuff printed out and ready and I waited until 5:15pm before turning the lights-off grrr. Even if they’d sent something at 4pm I wouldn’t be as angry as I am.
I expect an apology off them if they come next Saturday because that was in kind-words a dickish move and it lowers my opinion of them drastically.

On a related note the people who drag religion into You Tube comments on videos that have nothing to do with religion.

Youtube comment sections are the worst. Don’t get me started when someone posts an “inspirational video” and hundreds of people get rude and judgmental. It drives me insane
I try not to get started on YouTube comments when I’m in a ranting mood.

What bugs me about YouTube comment sections (and I think I’ve posted this here before) is when people post comments that clearly reflect the fact that they didn’t read the video description before commenting.

Here’s one:
When people ask me questions like “How long did it take you to grow that beard?.” Back when I had long hair the question was “How long did it take you to grow your hair out?.” Usually, I give some vague answer or say some variation of “I don’t know.” I always try to stay polite in answering this question, but I don’t like getting asked this. Truth is, I have more important things to keep track of than the last time I shaved or got a haircut.
