Medicine commercials. “This stuff will kill you, but you will no longer have this ONE problem.”
Right! When listing the side affects, the spokeperson will say something like “…whch could lead to a stroke, heart attack, death, and…”.
What do you mean, AND??? You just said death! There is no “and” after that. If a side affect is death, I’d rather have the bad skin, diabetes pain in my feet, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and the dreaded erectile dysfunction.
I love American commercials for that, we don’t get all of the side-effects listed out at this side of the Atlantic, so it’s quite funny tohearallofthesideeffectsbeinglistedasquicklyaspossiblebecausewedon’twanttobesuedifyouendupgettinganirregularheartbeatwhiletakingourmedicine < try and figure that out.
And my pet peeve this ad:
‘Brave’ talks in a whiny, irritating voice with a fake-accent, just to get their hind-side torn off them by our charges- Allied Irish Bank, we’ll back you!
Not to mention this ad (blame whoever started talking about commercials, Irish TV has a sh** load of sh** ads!)
Talking about getting rid of stereotypes about women drivers and then listing load of stereotypes and the woman at the end (who is one of our few Olympic gold medalists- Katie Taylor) sounds like she’s just risen from the dead, her enunciation is horrific, she speaks in a monotone AND SHE DOESN’T BLINK!

Losing things that you say you “love”. Where in the ^%$#* is my portable mobile phone charger?
I’m forever losing the tv remote control. Put it down somewhere, leave the room for two seconds, go to get it and its feckin’ gone.

I agree that it’s a great show. Zag & I quote lines from it all the time.

Here is one for all of my fellow Francophiles.
I like watching book reviews and all that on Youtube because I don’t live anywhere near a bookshop and my local library rarely stocks brand-new books so I learn of new releases through Youtube.
Anyhoo, one of the channels that I’m subscribed to is talking about the book ‘Bonjour Tristesse’ (Hello Sadness) by Françoise Sagan. However, this girl obviously doesn’t speak French as she keeps on pronouncing the title as “trist-es”, literally an anglicised pronunciation of a French word but it is really annoying to hear, it’s meant to be roughly pronounced like “triest-esss (switch the ‘p’ in ‘priest’ with ‘t’).

Yeah – on the internet, I understand spelling errors because people usually type in a hurry and it is very informal. However, I have seen shameful examples of poor spelling and grammar used in reports, emails, and other business correspondence. It seems to happen most frequently with the so-called “Millennials”. On a news station that I listen to frequently, I had heard of a study that spoke of this, blaming a misguided dependence on technology (spell check, etc…). Some spell checking features will not correct the wrong usage of words like to, two and too or there, their and they’re for example because the word is spelled correctly.

The French? Cheese-eating surrender monkeys!
And -10 points Zig, the ‘coup’ in ‘beaucoup’ has a silent ‘p’ so it’s meant to be ‘coo’

How could she have missed the intentional mispronunciation? Is it my fault? Was I too subtle? Will I get my 10 points back?
No- points are non-transferable.
You’re lucky it wasn’t my ‘brownie points’ system I take those very seriously!

Random “add-ons” adding themselves to my browser so that when I click on something on this site (for example) it opens a new window and tries to sell me something. I don’t frequent any sites that most people would consider “dodgy”* so I have no idea where they come from.
And yes, I have the latest anti-everything programs on my PC.
* (Though some Rolling Stones fans might find this site “dodgy”) 🙂

Sounds like you need the Adblock Plus extension for your browser. I can’t imagine browsing without it.
As noted – have ad blockers; I don’t get too many ads – just unwanted browser add-ons installing.
