#2 The stupid Opal Astra ads with Claudia Schiffer “it’s a German”- BLAH!
I hate that add. I hate most adds actually.
Oh another pet peeve: Popularity contests on forums.
I was once voted something pretty mean and disrespectful on another forum. And recently, on another forum there was a ”most popular member” contest, and things really went wrong. It was a poll, and so people just made fake accounts. Very immature. And on here only the people who post the most ever get nominated. I know these things are supposed to be fun, but wow, yeah, lot of fun. Fantastic.
And what does it prove? Nothing. Nothing at all.
I’m in a bad mood, just ignore this.

Doesn’t that make sense? That’s how you get to know people.
Also, the more people vote, the more variety we get in responses. Everyone had a full month to vote and were given plenty of reminders.

Yeah what’s the point? It’s pretty predictable who will win what. Like last year.
No, it’s not. There are some new winners. And some categories, as with last year, were decided by one vote.

Cheer up, wouldya? At least you are the perfect image of health. *flips hair forward*
I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

Yip. For one of my nominations i went with someone who is very much not a prominent poster.
If anyone wants to see my nominations i’m happy to make them public or do it via a PM. I have zilch to hide.
And its all a bit of fun anyway, taking it too seriously removes the whole point of it in my opinion.*
*Until i dont win at least one, then there will be some bitching and heavy sulking.

I didn’t know this was even a thing until 2 days ago
Parlance has been incredibly vigilant and posted frequent reminders in the ‘End of Year Awards’ thread starting from the first of December; even Mr Kite got in on the act. If folk have been on the forum yet didn’t know it was on i fail to see how or what else could have been done aside from Joe putting up a massive notice with flashing lights at the top of each page.

I’m with @meanmistermustard, there was as much notifying as could be done without sending everyone who has posted in the last year a PM. parlance has done a sterling job, as we have come to expect.
I’ll admit, much to my regret, I didn’t vote. Not because I didn’t know, I couldn’t avoid knowing, but because I have been bleedy ill for the last two fecking weeks. Miserable Xmas. @Ahhh Girl will tell you. She rang me Xmas Day to wish me a Happy, and I coughed at her for five minutes before she had to accept this funking barsteward was in no state to do anything but cough at her!
I almost considered trying to sneak in a late vote, but illness has meant I missed the deadline. Much to my regret, I have to accept that.
We all had our chance, some of us missed it, but no-one should say they didn’t know!

To have an event like with any reward show yes it can be predictable but it is nice seeing people having fun. I think this is really the only event/contest on this forum ever.

When I saw that Ron Nasty mentioned me in Pet Peeves, at first I was afraid I had become a pet peeve
I figured it was best to quit bugging you on the phone that day because it was irritating your throat and lungs trying to respond to the girl who talks too much.
@UnidentifiedFiendishThingy, do you have a suggestion for a way we could let more members know about the voting? I know people interact with the forum in many different ways.

2014 results are posted here.
Next year, I’ll make one announcement in the Beatles News when voting begins, and another when winners are announced. But this isn’t something I want to make a big deal about, so, frankly if I need to do more than I have to make members aware of the existence of the awards, I’ll hand them over to someone else who wants to deal with the trouble. Otherwise I’ll just get cranky about it.
But many thanks to those who appreciate the effort and understand the light-hearted spirit in which they’re intended.

The idea that there weren’t enough notifications for the votes is nonsense and to be expected to do more is ridiculous. Reminds me of folk who didnt vote in the Scottish Independence Referendum and said that despite the endless tv, newspaper, internet and radio coverage, newspaper, radio and billboard advertisements instructing people where, when and how to vote, leaflets and pamphlets sent in the post, and folk talking about it incessantly they never knew and blamed the Scottish Government for not being made aware.
Moving on.

Agreed – I have 3 phones about the house but it is a fairly large 2-storey place and I still miss it at times. I also have an answering machine but of course they are some folks’ pet peeve so I rarely get any messages when I do miss the call.

That’s interesting. Why would they give you this as opposed to bottled water?

Thats a good question.
Only thing I can think of is that water was scarce and it was donated for a good cause…even if it was from Budweiser. Otherwise, I do not know.
They had a water jugs and ice at hand out location; however, when the meals on wheels came by (in your neighborhood vs traveling to the hand out) they would give us this.
