Until I saw this post my oblivious self was just accepting the fact that my phone said 1:00 while my clock said 12:00 without thinking much of it.
I wish I was joking

They could stop this twice-yearly madness if they wanted to. Why won’t they?

Because apparently it increases productivity.

I hate the losing an hour of sleep part but I am very happy that our time is back to normal!!!!! And the hour of sleep ended up not really mattering because the cast party was last night so I went to bed at like 1:45 and woke up at like 12 (would have been 11).

Erm, no it’s not. The normal time is the time in the winter, as shown by the fact that British Summer Time is Greenwich Mean Time +1 hour, while in the winter it is Greenwich Mean Time +0. Normal time is (in the Northern Hemisphere) in the winter.

US counties, in terms of the UK, need to be thought of as boroughs and parishes.
In Louisiana they are called parishes and there are boroughs in New York.
My two home states:
Alabama has 67 counties and Mississippi has 82.
In Alabama I’ve live/lived in the lower two counties and Mississippi I lived in one of the lower three costal counties. When you go north of the coast you start to hear the banjos.

Excuse me- it’s preferable. Is that better? I just don’t like when it gets dark so early.

It loses productivity though in terms of international communication and the nation wide jet lag

I’m having this problem right now. The worst thing is that I really like that soap, it has a nice subtle natural smell that I find not obnoxious (I have an especial aversion to strong perfumey smells), but I have no idea what it’s called or where to get more of it.

^ I can so relate to that.
Another one: when people who aren’t in charge of scheduling tell people they’re not needed for a rehearsal when we told them they are. And now the person who told those people has a) shot themselves in the foot by giving them less time and shot us in the foot by making it look like our fault, and b) almost certainly inconvenienced more than half of our cast, but we will find out in a couple of hours.
How hard is it, come on…

Certainly in the north of Scotland, farmers and school kids would be affected by the lateness of morning breaking in the deep winter.
I like the clocks going forward by an hour, it signifies summer is here; lighter nights, warmer weather. Winter is so depressing and anything that shows it’s gone is good by me. Folk like to grumble but it’s twice a year and makes little difference to actual life aside from changing any clocks you have.

Ugh don’t get me started on when that happens! Or when the director doesn’t put people on the schedule for a certain day and then on that day he all of sudden decides that they’re called with no prior warning and then he gets mad at us for his mistake.
Also when freshmen don’t listen to you about safety rules or how to properly build something and then they build something wrong and you have to fix it for them. (Maybe if they just listened in the first place, this wouldn’t be happening)

That sounds quite irritating. Some of us junior techies make mistakes quite a lot but the AD is always super nice about it and encourages us to learn how to do things even if it takes five minutes to put in a screw 🙂 and it all turns out ok in the end with a little extra effort from everyone.

Well, Scotland can keep Daylight Savings, but I wish my state in the sunny South would ditch it. It screws up my sleep for a week.

I’m patient and nice and encouraging with those willing to learn and ask questions/help (for instance, I’ll kindly use a circular saw for someone if they’re too scared, or I’ll help troubleshoot what they’re working on, or if someone’s confused on how to bolt two lids together or mark out stairs), but I’m talking about the kids who just ignore me or our technical director/production designer and act like they already know everything and are too stubborn to ask for help. Or when you tell someone “Hey make sure that you don’t use hex bolts to put together platforms. That’s not their purpose and will cause safety concerns.” and they just go right ahead and use hex bolts.
