Oh here’s a HUGE one for me: When people treat pets like disposable objects. Why get one in the first place? Pets are a huge commitment, and that commitment is financial too. If you’re just going to get a kitten from somewhere, never neuter it and let it run rampid with no tags or vaccines then why bother at all? You are not helping it, you are just making the problem worse. I have cats and they are fixed, although they stay inside anyways. If I was to let them out I would be putting tags on them. I would also make sure they had their vaccinations. My heart breaks for these poor animals that people get and then lose interest.
The reason I am thinking about this so much today is this: We have been feeding a “stray” cat for almost a year now. A very sweet boy. No collar, not neutered. Either has no owner or has an owner that doesn’t give a s**t about protecting his cat. We were unable to bring him in because our place is VERY small and we already have three cats. He is also not vaccinated so that runs a risk of him giving something to our cats. We wanted to catch him to give him to the humane society or a rescue group, but he always came around very late at night and we couldn’t do anything because we would have no where to keep him until the humane society opened in the morning. Recently I found out that they have an emergency number that ran until midnight. Luckily, last friday he came around at about 9pm, so I was finally able to catch him and give him to them. I was so overjoyed and got my hopes up, planning to go and see him in a few weeks, all neutered and healthy (along with a hefty donation for them). Today I called to see how he was doing, and sadly I was told that he was FIV positive (basically feline AIDS) and had to be put down. My heart shattered. I’m glad he didn’t have to suffer, but I’m so sad that we could not help him sooner. Then I think about the big picture and that if people were more responsible in the first place then it would not have happened. My boss is a prime example, he has male cats that are not neutered and he lets them outside, and I just want to punch him. He’s so ignorant to the damage he is doing.
Kinda the same but a little different, there are the people that take their pets to the vet, then bitch and complain about how much it costs. Again, WHY did you get a pet then? They are expensive! If you don’t have a steady income, then don’t bother getting one please! I spend a lot on my cats, because if it’s needed for their health then it’s not even a question. I know there are vets out there that will go a little overboard with unnecessary tests and such, but most aren’t like that. Luckily I am a trained Vet Assistant or “Vet Nurse” in the U.K. (even thought I don’t work in the field right now) so I know enough to know what is necessary. Earlier this year one of mine needed a dental. Last week I took another one in because she is sick and losing weight. Doing more testing but she probably has an over-active thyroid. 🙁 The money just doesn’t bother me, I just want them to be happy and healthy. I understand that not everyone is wealthy (I’m certainly not, I rent and don’t make a ton of money, but we’re comfortable enough I guess)… but again, if you can’t afford them then don’t get them. I am refereeing mostly to the people that HAVE the money, but either can’t justify it or they pay it and then bitch and complain after. It bothers me the most because these are usually the same people that will spend thousands of dollar$ on a specific breed of dog to satisfy their vanity.
*phew* Sorry for the rant. Peace and Love.

That bugs me too. People buy or get pets, but if they pet makes one mistake they’re up in arms. Animals have feelings too! I’m not a vegetarian but I understand people who are and I am an animal lover, for the most part unless the animal hurts me. I have three cats, yes I’m the crazy cat woman. They are basically like my kids. They have their own little personalities. I complain sometimes about the cost, but hey kids cost money too, plus I love my kitties. I let two of them outside, but they are fixed and have their shots. The reason why I let my oldest out is because when we first moved to this house we did keep her in, but she was depressed because she was use to being outside at my parents house. My parents didn’t teach me it was bad for animals to go outside. But my cats mostly stick to my yard, which is good especially for my oldest since she’ll be 10 this year. My youngest I keep inside because of her fur color (black) and her well being. She was feral kitty abandon by her mom at 3 or 4 weeks. We literally raised her from that point on along with our other cats. She is smaller than the other cats and probably would not understand the outside world. She’ll mess with the other cats, it could mostly be out of play, and she don’t understand why they get mad. All it takes is an animal outside to get mad and shes toast.

I’m so glad you agree, and you sound like a fantastic pet owner! I love that you also have three, it’s not as common of a number for people I find. It’s like two is fine, but as soon as you have three you’re “crazy”. It’s so true about their personalities too. My oldest, Luna, is also 10, she’s the one with the possible thyroid issue. She’s my baby, I got her when she was 5 weeks old. She was living with these drug addicts and I took her away, even though she was still a bit too young. Artemis is 9, he’s a flame-point siamse I got from the Humane Society. Then we have Gordo, also 9, who my boyfriend had gotten before we were living together. He has asthma and uses an inhaler. It’s kinda precious.
I may as well post a pic since I love them so damn much.
Luna is on the left, Gordo is on the right, and Artemis is the one in the middle totally photo-bombing.

Thanks.
I wish I could get more and literally people come to me when they find a cat or giving away a cat, but I don’t have the funds. Plus, I feel you have to equal it out. You have make sure the pets are getting plenty of love, make sure they get along, and have their needs. Having too many animals it can get pretty crazy.
I found Batty (my youngest) and Pudding Cup (my oldest) around Halloween. I found Pudding Cup while trick or treating. Every house I went to I asked “Is this your kitten?”. No one claimed her so, I did. She is my baby. I will be depressed when I lose her. Angelica, my middle cat, we got from one of our friends. We originally had her brother, but he ran away. We found out who owns him now (one of our neighbors) and we’re friends with them anyways. They found him two months after he ran away, banged up. Took him in and fixed him up. They’re also the cat lovers in my neighborhood, mater of fact they have more than me. Pudding Cup is very wise. When the other cats pull a stupid move, she just looks at them like you stupid cat. She is also very street smart and a good hunter; however, she is unfortunately getting arthritis now. Angelica is 3 years old and quiet, yet sassy. She use to be annoying especially before we got her fixed, but now she pretty calm. Batty is a year & half old, is very mischievous, but she is also pretty smart. She lets us know when she wants water and she knows where it comes from. She literally tries to crawl up the fridge to get to it.
This is Batty when we first got her.

My little cat was run over just over a year ago by some stupid driver speeding up a residential street. That made me so angry. How can you be so irresponsible? There’s a school at the botttom of my road, as well. If he’d ran over some little kid, he would’ve been punished but ’cause it was an animal, nothing. Thing is, he was like my son. He was part of my family, and now he’s not here. I know he was an animal, not a human being but I don’t care. If people didn’t speed, I would still have him. The guy didn’t even have the decency to stop and let someone know that he’d ran over someone’s pet, so nobody knew ’till we began to wonder where he was when it started to go dark and he hadn’t come to get some food.

My aunt used to have three cats, but two of them died, at the ripe old ages of 18 and 16. The cat she has now is a few years old, but we don’t know her exact age. She would appear at my aunt’s house from time to time, but then, one day, my aunt’s neighbor’s cat was chasing the soon-to-be-my-aunt’s cat, so my aunt rescued the cat and put it in her basement. After a while, when nobody claimed her, my aunt let the cat up into the main part of the house, and she’s been with her for almost two years.
My aunt is most certainly a cat lady. The cats on the street, stray or owned, all come to her house, and she takes care of them. There were two cats from the same owner that were sick and neglected (one day they didn’t come to her house, and they never came again- we don’t know what happened to them), her neighbor’s cat (which is somewhat neglected- and yes, it’s the same one who chased my aunt’s cat), a few battered strays, and two kittens that might have been eaten by hawks (my aunt was heartbroken when those kittens disappeared). And there are probably a few I’m forgetting.
It really upsets me that these cats were so neglected. A true pet peeve.
It also upsets me that my mom, my sister, and I can’t get a cat because my sister is allergic.

My condolences as well, Emily. I have a kitty at home and she’s my baby. I had another who passed away a year and a half ago, and it’s no less painful than losing a human member of the family.

Shifting the topic of this thread..
People who use the term ‘overrated’ very loosely. I hate the word ‘overrated’, because I take great offense when someone calls a band I like ‘overrated’. I wish the word didn’t exist, because I can’t stand reading people spout their crap about how any band is overrated. After all, you can’t say anything objective about music or else someone will disagree with you. Why even bother? Next time I hear it I’ll go off.. I swear.
Please don't wake me, no don't shake me, leave me where I am, I'm only sleeping~.

That made no sense. If you know people using the word overrated when talking about a band is always objective, then why do you get offended? People say it like it is objective because there is no need to use “I believe,” or “in my opinion” every time you say something that is an opinion. They’re the ones saying it, so it’s implied that what they’re saying is their opinion. There is no band or artist who is loved by everyone, so just because you like a band doesn’t mean every one else in the world should too. I’m sure you’ve never said anything negative about any band or artist, right? Everybody has their own opinions, and they can voice their opinions on any band they like. How is that a problem?

A pet peeve of mine is when somebody does something nice, and other people try to make less of what that person did by saying something like, “there had to have been more to it, people really only give to receive.” Yeah, or maybe that person was just doing something nice.

A pet peeve of mine is when you’re talking to your mates about older handsome men, and they don’t know anybody. This probably sounds a bit stupid but it killed the conversation in under a minute as I was like ”Richard Gere?, George Clooney (or Harrison coming to think of it, he was never a bad looking ”older” man)”.
P.S. I love Richard Gere, would marry now given the chance
