This is really annoying me so it’s more than a pet peeve. There are a few things we should be reminded of before we start:
– Easter doesn’t have a fixed date, it changes every year.
– The first major fight for Irish independence from Great Britain in the 20th century was during the Easter of 1916. This event became known as ‘The Easter Rising’.
– This year Easter Sunday was on the 28th March.
Now my annoyance is:
The Easter Rising of 1916 happened from APRIL 24TH-APRIL 29TH i.e. the time Easter was on in 1916. This year it was in late-March.
Late April does not equal late March, so all of the f**king parades, festivities and everything that is going on just because it is ‘Easter Sunday’ and ‘Easter Monday’ to celebrate the ‘100 Years Since the 1916 Rising’ are wrong. It isn’t for another month, it has only been 99 years since the Rising. Easter doesn’t fall at the same time every year so stop saying “this time 100 years ago…” because YOU’RE WRONG.
Gah and I bet when the actual proper Easter Rising dates come on, there will be next to no celebrations.
This is very annoying for me and nobody else seems bothered by it

Maybe they’re going to cover both bases and do it all again on the exact dates that it did originally occur; the celebrations on Sunday being a sampler of whats to come.

^ Nay, the big parade was yesterday in Dublin and they had people come from all over the world to it so I don’t think they’d be happy to do the whole shebang again a month later.
On the 24th there is going to be a mass on for the Leaders executed but that appears to be it as regards major government-supported celebrations.
I found another little snippet from goireland.about.com about another slightly-bothered person so good to hear I’m not the only one:
Currently planning is going ahead for the 100th anniversary of the Rising in 2016, which will (more than likely) culminate in a parade on Easter Sunday, March 27th, 2016. Nearly a month too early.
The Wrong Day, the Wrong Date
Now, my grandmother was born on Christmas Eve, so we always celebrated her birthday on Christmas Eve. Which was somehow logical: Christmas Eve falls on December 24th with some regularity. Christmas is not a movable feast. But would she have been born on April 24th, 1916 … we would have celebrated each year on April 24th, not on Easter Monday.
This (slightly whimsical) example shows a major problem: Anniversaries are commonly celebrated on the calendar date they happened. There might even be adjustments for changing calendars, examples being the celebration of the Battle of the Boyne on July 12th (the battle happened on July 1st) and the commemoration of the October Revolution in November.
In Ireland, however, the date of the Rising is unimportant – what seems to be more important is its connection to Easter. Adding further confusion by choosing Easter Sunday in place of the historical Easter Monday does not help.
I would hazard a guess that when interviewing a thousand Irishmen and -women in the streets of Dublin, maybe only a hundred would be able to actually pinpoint the date of the Easter Rising. And many of the remaining 900 would struggle to make the correct choice between Easter Sunday or Monday when pressed for details.

Another grumble.
This new approach of super-friendly customer service. Was in a massive queue in the bank due to this idiotic policy of staff having to show they care about the customers and so spend 5 minutes chatting about their day. And if you think I’m exaggerating I had the same damn treatment. My transaction should have taken about 90 seconds instead the lady serving me spent 5 minutes asking how my day was going and what I was up to and there is no way I can be polite and tell the staff member to get on with it so I can leave.
If I wanted to chat about my day, which I don’t, then I wouldn’t go into a bank to do so.

When advertisements begin with/include annoying noises. Especially in an Internet setting where you’re seeing the same couple ads over and over. One app on my tablet includes this ad that begins with a fish screaming.
Really? That’s just plain inconsiderate.
Another annoying one that was fairly recently in an Internet setting where you’re seeing the same couple ads over and over was a shorter version of this one.
Of course, when it was showing, the volume was much louder than whatever I was doing at the time. What a stupid idea this drum battle ad was! For one, the idea doesn’t work and doesn’t sound good simply because each drum is made of Pringles cans, hence they all sound the same.

^ Aww it sounds like you’re having a bad day mmm. Want to tell us all about it?
Aside from a bit of a rush at one point its been an ok day. I just want to be served as quickly and as politely as possible without having to have a conversation and completely fail to see why when folk buy something or get money out of the bank or do anything business in a store/shop its almost compulsory now to have a chat. Especially when there is a large queue. And if you don’t and get pissed off at having to wait 10/15 minutes you become the unreasonable one. Surely the aim should be to serve your customers as efficiently as possible, not talk to Mrs Miggens about how her verrucas are.

I just give one word reaponces till they get the picture in that situation.
Ads still think they are on TV and have to shout as people leave during the break.

Ooh yes, may I add my own tales to the Advertisement Woes?
Last week, on YouTube, I kept getting the EXACT SAME ONE repeatedly. In fact, I had just about memorised the dialogue of the first five seconds up to the ‘Skip Ad’ option came along.
I don’t usually mind adverts too much– the price one pays for being too lazy to actually buy the album*, etc., etc…. but I like some variety in my brainwashing, not the same bloody ‘The Catch– Premieres Thursday 10/9c yaddayadda’ one over and over.
(See? I memorised it )
I was so very relieved on Thursday when the flippin’ show premiered finally and I didn’t have to sit through its adverts anymore.
*I’m working on it, I swear! My birthday’s coming up, y’know…

The next time you go in and they ask you how your day is tell them “I’ll let you know after my doctor appointment which is in 10 minutes.” Then, start unbuckling your pants and say “would you be able to let me know if this looks contagious?”.
You’ll be on your merry way in no time.

Internet companies who take 10 days to check that they can cable you up – then after that wait say it’s all fine and promise it will be done within 7-10 working days – then you sit and wait and nothing happens.
You go in to check and they tell you “sorry, all the cables are full in your area”.
And I wonder if they were ever going to let you know.
Bah humbug – @HongKongLady is being a saint about it – I’m “peeved” (feel free to insert a stronger word there)!
Here’s hoping the new mobile plan she is buying actually works; no wonder the economy over there is a mess if this is the best their communications companies can muster.

I like surly best. That was one of my vocab words in english junior year.
One of my pet peeves is whining little kids. My sister does it way too much nowadays and I can’t even listen to her when she’s whining.

I don’t know if you saw trc but she was on for a little while about 20 minutes ago 🙂
Yes – she was telling me about it thanks @sigh butterfly – she bought some extra credit on her old plan as the new sim doesn’t work; but it’s very patchy and cut out again just now.
She’s going to return the new sim she bought later today – then try another company who ‘might’ be able to provide internet via LTE wireless. If not we are just going to have to live with poor third-world intermittent internet until we can find a way to get her over here for a while again.
