Essays are great if they’re interesting! Especially if they relate to the Beatles in some way.
I agree that it’s cool to have instant cello sounds at your disposal, and that’s fine for amateurs like you. But dammit, I wish that the professionals would use some of their millions to hire ACTUAL cello players…and experiment with the electronics to make sounds that “real” instruments CAN’T make. Like, the Beatles got amazing use out of their Mellotron, no question. But they used those string sounds in weird, non-string sounding ways, primarily during their most psychedelic, experimental period. And didn’t skimp on the actual orchestral instruments when they were appropriate/necessary. That’s part of the way I feel about electronics.

Gangnam Style: I thought it was stupid at first, but it grew on me.
Pop bands such as One Direction, The Wanted, 5 Seconds of Summer: I know who One Direction and The Wanted are. They are catchy, but not something I listen to.
The Fox Song: Stupid song
The Harlem Shake: Stupid
Flappy Bird: I have heard of it, but I’m not sure what it is.
Let me take a selfie(or whatever that song is called): Stupid song and I hate the term selfie. I also
despise how people believe its something new; however, it has been around for years! It just has a new stupid name!
Planking: Again, stupid

Hey, it’s been a month since the last post. Anyway…
Gangnam Style: It’s fun to make fun of, but I don’t enjoy it as a song.
Boy bands: 1D = meh. They do use real guitars in their music, but they write cheesy pop songs like any other boy band. The Wanted are even worse. Some friends of mine (females) really like Five Seconds of Summer, and I would say they’re the most tolerable of these three. They’ve actually done some rockin’ songs (pop-rock, but better than nothing) Their lyrics are about the same as 1D, but their music is usually more rockin’. They covered The Romantics’ “What I Like About You”, which I’ll admit isn’t as good as the original, but at least they know some pretty good music from before their time. I still wouldn’t buy an album or EP from them, but I don’t really dislike them that much.
“The Fox”: Uggggghhhh… kids liked to say this and then make dumb noises from the song awhile ago, don’t know if they still do. That alone is enough to make me hate it.
The Harlem Shake: I hate the song, but watching the “dance” can be entertaining.
Flappy Bird: Aggravatingly addicting, I’ve played it. It’s a game similar to the “helicopter game” where you tap the screen the make the bird flap upwards to avoid hitting Mario-esque pipes, if you didn’t know. Stupid as a trend, but not a bad game.
#Selfie: Ew. Also somewhat fun to make fun of, but horrifying to actually listen to.
Planking: I’m pretty sure this trend is dead, but it was dumb while it lasted so I don’t miss it.
Oh, and “hashtags” in general I hate. “lol, bro, just listened to the fox! #wutduzdafoxsae”
If you're lonely (or not!), you can talk to me. .....Hey! Are you a new member on this fine forum and don't know where to go to introduce yourself?
Well, you can do it here! Dig it?

I’ve never tweeted anything, barely ever texted anyone even, but I enjoy using the hashtag suffix as another textual tool in my repertoire, for times when ordinary punctuation won’t quite convey the effect I want.

I have a Twitter account, but I haven’t used it in nearly two years.

I am quite happy to report that I have no idea what any of this stuff is, except for One Direction. If it wasn’t for the fact that my 12 year old niece has every square inch of her room plastered with their images, I wouldn’t know who they were either.
Yay me!
This is not a case of me just getting old or standing still as trends pass me by. As a matter of fact, I cannot recall ever falling for any trendy type stuff, even as a kid. In the 90’s I was once accused of going ‘grunge’ because I wore jeans and flannel shirts. My response to my accuser? “Listen here, Skippy. I’ve been wearing jeans/t-shirts/flannel shirts ever since high school. It’s about time everyone else caught up to me!” Proof positive that if you keep wearing the same thing, you will eventually be back in style. Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go have my wig powdered.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Gangnam Style: Very stupid, I hate the music video, especially when he points at the woman’s butt and the elevator scene
Harlem Shake: Very stupid song, and very awful videos, especially when people strip off clothing. I remember once we did a Harlem Shake contest at school, and they forced me to put a pink tutu on and dress like a woman! At school!
What Does The Fox Say?: Very stupid song, and very annoying! It hurts my ears!
Flappy Bird: Very stupid game, stupid graphics, and very addicting (I’ve never played it, but I watch kids at school play it-they’re hooked!)
Modern pop bands: I hate them because there’s no real instrumentation, somebody outside the band writes it (it’s called Lennon-McCartney for a reason), and they sound crappy with autotune, and if they take the autotune off, their voice sounds like crap! (Leave autotune alone, Paul!) There’s no motivation to write good music!
Planking: Absolutely stupid. People go crazy over the stupidest things.
Selfie (the song): Absolutely stupid and horrid. It’s the same thing over and over and OVER AGAIN!!!
Social media: I don’t use crap like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Myspace, whatever. People post the stupidest things. Same thing with texting too. Just call people! Use your voice!
Drum Machines/Synthesizers: Stupid! They don’t sound real! My feeling is to get a drum beat on ACTUAL DRUMS!!! Synthesizers don’t sound genuine, especially the digital ones. They are utter stupid.
As a result, I hate a lot of elements of today. Take me back to the 60s and 70s. PLEASE!!!

Honestly, I think that some things like planking and Gangnam Style were over before this thread even started.

I think that the reason that some of these things don’t last very long is because so much of today’s pop culture involves the Internet. Having easy access to so much information so quickly causes people to tire of things more quickly.
That’s my unscientific, unstudied “theory,” anyway…

I’m 13 and thanks to my class I know what these things are, ugh!
Gangnam Style: Stupid, can’t believe it got so many views.
Harlem Shake: Very stupid, like seriously and that song though…
What Does The Fox Say?: Hate it so much, just so much.
Flappy Bird: Don’t get what all the fuss is about.
Modern pop bands: Hate them, haven’t found one band that is actually good. Bands like one direction (not that you can call it a band) make me puke.
Planking: Ok, don’t hate it too much.
Selfie: I hate the song a lot, these girls were singing it and I was like: kill me NOW. As for the selfie itself, hate it as well. Those girls pretending they have Angelina Jolie lips or whatever.
Social media: Nothing except for Google+. I’m probably the only one in my class without Facebook and I’m proud of it.
Hashtag: Hate it, with a deep passion. When people say hashtag in normal conversations (surprisingly they still have real conversations) it kills me, 999 times. Once this girl was like “hashtag love” I really died, it is just so terrible.
I was definitely born in the wrong time.

That’s exactly what happens with trends these days. Also the same thing with modern music. I guess all I can say is…

Yeah, pretty much. That’s why I hate trends, especially ones involving stupidity. I remember we had a good time during the Harlem Shake incident, but dad wouldn’t let them put the video in the contest! I was mad them, but I understand now!

Hey while we’re at it, what do you guys think of how One Direction (listened to 2-3 songs, didnt follow) has a very teenagish appeal while Beatles -who had more teenage, female fan following- didnt let it overwhelm them. Yes, they enjoyed the shouts which popularized their music but as they progressed they wanted their music to be understood from an artistic perspective…which is what I find lacking in todays teenage bands/ singers. Also they are very annoying.

Their songs aren’t all that bad compared to some of the stuff around today. I like the stuff best off their third album Midnight Memories. They do have some writing credit on some of their songs like Story of My Life. I don’t think they deserve a lot of the hate they get. They are a lot better then their predecessor Justin Bieber.

Exactly… They went through the boy band phase and they wanted to become actual artists… They started experiments and they took over the studios. If you compare the 1957 Beatles to the 1970 Beatles, you would barely know they were the same person.
