I’ve just changed my profile pictures, as I have come to the realization that it is not ‘cake-y’ enough. It also seems that forum-goers here really like cake, so that was another piece of consideration.
Perhaps if I hit 1000 forum posts I’ll bake a cake.

Would happily partake if my mam allows it. Would end up being something basic though, I can’t go all out in the family kitchen because they will be unimpressed- ye might get some biscuits.

It’s a Southern thing. Or maybe a North American thing, I dunno.
Pie is superior because it can be a savory dish as well as as dessert, and it is more likely to contain fruit in larger quantities than cake. It’s also easier to make. Pie is food of the people.
Rita, is cheesecake not technically pie?

Well depends on what kinda pie you’re talking about. I really only bake tarts- apple, and rhubarb mostly but I’m not overly keen on them. My mam loves an apple tart though.
Making something like a lemon meringue though is more difficult than a sponge.

No.
A pie has an all-enclosing pastry crust (with the exception of open-faced pies, most pies are covered on top with either a full crust or a lattice), whereas cheesecake has a sort of thicker, cookie-like crust that is found only on the bottom and sometimes thinly on the sides, thus making technically a tart, but not a pie.
