I have a couple of artists i think are very overrated (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Springsteen, The Cure, The Allman Brothers) but i would have to say that U2 is the ultimate king of overrated artists. . . All that i have heard just sounds too similar and i think Bono is too full of himself

U2 are quite boring yes, but some of their songs are truly brilliant. I’m thinking of Where The Streets Have No Name, With Or Without You, Beautiful Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday etc
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Has anyone said One Direction yet on this thread? I know I’m not exactly their target audience, but still, their ‘music’ is atrocious.
Oh wow, almost forgot Abba. Vastly overrated in my opinion.
Springsteen deserves a mention too. The Boss? Not for me

I disagree with that. Some of my favourite songs of all time are from their back catalogue, songs like Santa Rosa (which sounds very much like If I Needed Someone ), King Kong Song, Watch Out, Rock and Roll Band (those three are incredibly rocky), Hey Hey Helen, Dum Dum Diddle, and Another Town Another Train. Point I’m making is, once you get past their famous songs, you find some gems.

Agree with all of the above re U2 and Springsteen. Abba are not my cup of tea, but I do think they were very talented.

I agree. A friend of mine likes him so I was like “Okay, maybe he’s good,” but then my history teacher (who obsesses about Springsteen the way I obsess about the Beatles) played us some of his music and I was like “Eh.” Some of his lyrics were good but the music itself I don’t care for.

The Allman Brothers are NOT overrated. They are underrated. Especially on the Jam scene where often times Phish is grouped closer to Grateful Dead than anybody, when the Allmans were as influential as the Dead, and played alongside them several times. I like Phish, but they are extremely overrated in the Jam scene, but underrated in the mainstream.

All modern music is overrated. (Lol besides All Star. What a tune XD). “Music” today is all made by a computer by someone with absolutely no talent whatsoever. Old music actually had meaning and actually sounded good and was made by real people with real talent.

Agreed. My PE teacher has a thing about “educating” us with “REAL music, where people play REAL INSTRUMENTS!” This is one of few things I agree with him on. He likes to blast music through the crappy speakers whenever we’re in the gym, and he actually seems to have pretty good taste– he’s played some Paul/Wings music and some kind of Beatles greatest hits thing. I’m rather impressed.

The reason people think Queen are overrated is typically because the songs you hear by them ARE overrated.
Here in the US, the radio stations only play Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, You’re My Best Friend, Somebody To Love, We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions, Fat Bottomed Girls, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Another One Bites The Dust, and Under Pressure. Don’t get me wrong, i like We Will Rock You and Another One Bites The Dust as much as the next person but these 10 songs are overplayed. Why not play some other songs for a change like Tie Your Mother Down, Don’t Stop Me Now, Play The Game, Radio Ga Ga, or I Want It All.
It’s like when someone says they don’t like The Beatles, it’s probably because they’ve heard the same 10 songs on the radio a million times and associate The Beatles with those 10 overplayed songs.

But then if you listen to Night at the Opera you’ll find an even bigger pile of musical garbage than their greatest hits.

Yeah. Idk why everyone likes Bohemian Rhapsody so much. Like, it’s not a bad song and I know they put effort into it, but SO overrated.

It’s interesting that you feel that way. I personally love A Night At The Opera, it’s like the Sgt. Pepper of the 70’s with it’s wide array of music.
Bohemian Rhapsody is totally overrated though, i like the mama and rock sections but the opera section is dreadful and feels like it’s just there to elongate the song. It’s a bit like You Know My Name (Look Up The Number).
