I'd say that the most overrated band would be called Black Flag. But I think that the most overrated artist would be Michael Jackson. He was alright I guess, but the king of pop? Nahh.

Probably my biggest issue with Rish is that they are treated like freaking Gods up here in Canada (being from Toronto). One of my teachers said I was crazy, but, I haven’t listened to that much. (okay Von, time for your “Rush is Canadiana and here are their great sings argument.)

Well I might get hammered for this because there was just a thread where everyone professed their love for them, but I think the Doors are painful to listen to. They have a few good songs, but I got their box set years ago and it really, really depressed me.
I also think U2 is overrated, sorry mith!

Don't worry Gniknus, most of the friends I went to the concert shared your opinion.
Actually I don't get angry when someone says one of the bands I like is overrated. It's a matter of personal taste I guess.

I think Rush's music is really cool and awesome. But the lyrics for the most part are just kinda nonsense. Their best songs are their instrumentals.
I like Michael Jackson, but his death blew him wayyyy out of proportion. So I agree that he is also very overrated now.
U2 and Radiohead would have to be my answers though. Could never get into either of them, but many people go crazy for them.

Now I know I'm going to be killed for saying this, but I find Led Zeppelin to be quite overrated. Of course I love Stairway To Heaven but other than that I just can't get into their music. I tried watching this movie on Palladia that was a mix between a 1973 concert and some dreamscape type things and I just couldn't get into the music at all. I really only watched it for Stairway to Heaven and I didn't even stay awake that long.

MND, I agree about Zeppelin. I enjoy Stairway and Kashmir, but Robert Plant has to be one of rocks worst vocalists.
Edit: Michael Jackson has to be the most obnoxious, stupid hero ever. His funeral was shown on all 3 major networks. He killed himself with booze. Mo sympathy for someone who’s death is because of drug intake.

Oasis.
Their music is fantastic, but the fact that Liam Gallagher considers himself the heir to The Beatles music-wise is overrated. Anyway Noel is more talented.
And I know why sometimes people consider U2 overrated. Some of their songs are true masterpieces but others are very meh (I’m looking at you Love Rescue me)
Edit : Also those glasses. Bono, you're not Ringo Starr . Please take them off from time to time uh???????

Only because I didn't see the thread until now! I'm not sure if I'd characterize Rush as “overrated” myself, considering that they were loathed by the vast bulk of the rockcritical establishment, especially back in the '70s-80s! Unless you mean overrated by their extra-fanatical fanbase, with which I'll agree – they can be plenty obnoxious, in a “omg Geddy Lee is greatest bassist EVARR” kind of way.
And fwiw, it's only the first 10 years/10 albums of their career that I care about – after that point, they'd moved on from borrowing from Led Zep and Yes and the Police, and begun to borrow from U2, yeesh. Even worse, they exchanged their analog synthesizers for those loathsome digital ones instead. And Geddy quit shrieking entirely and started to sing in a more normal register, and at that point they were no fun anymore! (I have a high tolerance for shrieking male singers, obv, since I call Led Zep my second-favourite English quartet.)
And speaking of Brit quartets, now I get my revenge on Mr.SKcT by proclaiming The Clash as most overrated! (LOL…actually I like a few of their albums.)
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

I also think The Clash are hugely overrated. I’ve never understood why people hold them in such high regard. Their music leaves me cold.

Some of their early punk was a bit one-dimensional, and their later stuff was kinda bland. But for you Joe, I recommend the album London Calling. A double-album masterpiece, genre-hopping genius. Give it a few listens.
You all will have read that Dave Dee is no longer with us. But Mickey and Titch and I would like to carry on the good work that's always gone down in number two.
