Everyone has opinions that can get them in arguments and debates. Let’s each list five opinions we hold true that are controversial.
1. Pee Wee Herman is not a pervert.
2. Woody Allen is not a child molester.
3. Roman Polanski served his sentence.
4. Charles Manson didn’t order people to commit murder.
5. Yoko Ono is a good singer.

Great idea for a thread, so i don’t piss the mods off, i’ll list some less serious things:
1. Mark David Chapman should get paroled because he served his time and has no plans to hurt anyone else
2. I wish life was like what it was in the 1950’s and 60’s
3. Kids shouldn’t eat vegetables
4. Fender should stop making guitars in the US and make all of their guitars in Mexico
5. The US should become a socialist nation
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

Even if the kids want to?
1. Communism, when done well, should be really good.*
2. I Want You (She’s So Heavy) could easily be expresses in about 2 and a half minutes, not the god-awful 7:47 it is.
3. I don’t believe in killing anyone, not even the leader of ISIS (though life imprisonment for him is a good idea…)
4. Violins are a waste of space.
5. Extroverts are annoying (though not all of the time)
*communism has never been done well though, so that’s why it gets a bad name

I’m skeptical about Manson, but not certain of his innocence either. I do believe Tex Watson should be held mainly responsible. Why we call them the Manson murders makes no sense.
Here’s five of mine:
All drugs should be legalized.
Donald Trump isn’t that bad, and I don’t mind what he is doing with the government. (Although I am a democrat)
Forrest Gump is a bad movie
Most major world governments and banks are controlled by the Rothschild family, and have been for centuries. They have backed both sides of every war since the Napoleanic wars.
The government shouldn’t fun abortion clinics with taxpayer money. I am pro-choice, but I don’t want the government to be using people’s money to fund something that they don’t believe in. (Although the government does a great many things I don’t believe in.)

An unconditional basic income should be granted in every country.
Voting in an election should become compulsory like in the Netherlands for example. If someone doesn’t want to vote they can still make their ballot invalid.
Having an affair is perfectly fine – I find it rather appalling when a person claims the possession of another person from the day of the marriage until they die. People are not property and I don’t see why one should be forced only to love one person the whole life (in a romantical way). Free love is a good thing
This has already been said before but I find it too important: Killing is generally wrong, no exceptions.
There should be a fine on garbage, especially when it’s food. Far too much stuff is being thrown away every day even when it’s still perfectly fine /eatable.

Violins on their own, I meant to say.

That’s what I love about Australia’s elections – compulsory voting! We had a 91% turnout rate last election (with a further 6% of informal votes).
Though I lost my faith in elections last year a little bit…

Voting shouldn’t be forced. Voting is a right and people should have the right to abstain.
I do think that voting should be a national holiday.

Wow, I didn’t know voting in Australia was also compulsory, how cool is that! We had a turnout of 71% in the last election…

I totally agree that voting is a right and that one should have a free choice whom to vote for and also whether one wants to vote at all. However, I do think that at least going to the place where you can vote and take a ballot should be compulsory. If one decides to abstain one can simply leave the ballot blank. That way, everyone who wouldn’t vote out of protest in a system without compulsory voting still had this opportunity and at the same time everyone who was just too lazy to vote before would get the opportunity to participate.

The presidental one is the big one to turn into a holiday so more people are able to go.
I don’t think people who want to abstain should be required to take time out of their day to not vote. But I do think it shoudl be easier for people who do want to vote.

1. Compulsory voting is what makes Australia less of a mess than the US and UK. Maybe not by much, but it is a definite brake on the wishes of parties and governments.
2. Taxes are what we use to look after each other. They’re not a punishment for rich people.
3. You can’t have a “war on drugs” if your own drug companies are selling legal heroin and bribing doctors to prescribe it.
4. There is no effective punishment for genocide, so Obama got away with it too.
5. Your Mother Should Know doesn’t go anywhere but I’m not going to complain if Paul plays it live in front of me hint hint.

No, @Dark Overlord, you definitely should not get more controversial. Not a good idea at all.
I agree with mandatory voting, but I would phrase it differently; I’d call it mandatory polling station attendance. I think people should take part in the democratic process. Not voting but attending, or spoiling your ballot, is a legitimate protest.
Not being bothered to get off your arse because the Kardashians are on TV again stops you having any right to complain about anything which involves politics, which is everything.
Every two to five years, depending where you are, it’s not too much to ask for you to attend a specific location to offer your support for the democratic process, even if that support is not taking part. At least you’ve made the effort.
And the truth is, those countries that have mandatory voting, they do not find a huge increase in spoiled ballots, they find people deciding to engage if they actually have to make the effort to turn up or face a fine. Mandatory voting engages people who believe politics are above their heads and doesn’t really affect them in their day-to-day lives.
They discover it isn’t above their heads, and that it affects every aspect of their lives. And their find views to agree with and views to disagree with.
However people vote, it is always good to encourage them to take part. You may not always like the answer, but the question being asked matters.
People died, and continue to die, for the right to answer the question of how they would/will be governed. We dishonour those who gave us the vote by not taking advantage of the right…
Just my view though!

It looks like i should probably and will keep my other controversial thoughts in my head and if i REALLY feel the urge to discuss them, i could do so elsewhere.
As for mandatory voting, how much is the fine to refuse to come to the place, some people may hate voting so much that they’d rather take the fine.
