Does anybody on this site like Journey (the band)? I’ve been listening to their music lately, and it’s really growing on me. But the way I describe it wouldn’t make any sense to anyone but me… it makes me think of two things: driving late at night on a busy road when it’s drizzling after leaving a diner, and a warm-ish late winter late afternoon when the sun is low in the sky but not exactly setting and it’s casting a golden glow on everything and the sky is a brilliant blue. Like I said, makes no sense…
So, what are your thoughts about Journey?

Journey had one of the best singers in my opinion : Steve Perry.
Yes, he’s a very good singer, but all four of The Beatles are better, in my opinion. Still, Steve Perry is really good. Apparently there’s someone from The Philippines who sounds exactly like him.

I hated Journey for years, but then investigated them more thoroughly a couple of years ago when I was particularly infatuated with all manner of late-70s/early 80s AOR bands. (Styx have always been one of my more shameful loves!) And I definitely found enough enjoyable rock tunes to compile a nice CD-R compilation. And yeah, Steve Perry does have a pretty impressive set of pipes, even if he rubs you the wrong way (like he usually does to me. A matter of personal taste, I guess. Their first few albums, pre-Perry, are quite different – more jazz-fusiony.)
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

I went through a Journey phase. I’m interested in seeing the documentary that just came out about the lead singer who replaced Steve Perry.

That guy replaced Steve Perry as lead singer in 2007. They had seen his Journey covers on Youtube. He does sound astonishingly a lot like Steve Perry. I am not much of a fan so more hardcore fans can probably tell the difference.
"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been.. I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene.. Banjos! Banjos! All the time, I can't forget that tune.. and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

Arnel Pineda, a guy in his 40’s a nice age to start touring I think. He left his band to join Journey, and he’s the third lead singer of the band. Btw Journey removed all of his videos from youtube I think lol. Arnel Pineda sometimes cheats and sings Journey songs on local channels.

Had occasion to hear their second album, 1976’s Look Into The Future recently, and discovered that they do a cover of “It’s All Too Much “.
It’s terrible.
Glad I didn’t pay for it!
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Why would you do a cover of IATM?? I mean I don’t want to knock it too much but, come on, is hearing the Beatles’ version not enough? It’s one of those songs I often forget exists because of the lack of times I’ve thought ”I know, I’ll listen to that!”
Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.

The only thing I like about Journey is that its two founding members and leaders — Neal Schon and Greg Rolie — were superlative musicians in Santana for two albums, and four albums, respectively. Greg Rolie especially I esteem — I consider him quite simply the best Hammond organist in all pop music history.
