I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Hi, y’all! I’m Frank from Austin TX. I play bass guitar and I’m a big Beatles fan. It’s nice to be here!
So @mcgowan are you a professional musician in Austin, it has an amazing music “scene” there. Or does it anymore? And being a bass player, is your favorite Beatle Paul?

Greetings one and all.
I’m from a UK city called Bristol, born in the 1950s, the middle child of three.
My older brother and I were smitten with Beatlemania from an early age – particularly me as I was four years younger than him.
While we are at junior school one day, we asked our mother to buy each of us a plastic Beatles badge from the local store. They were guitar-shaped with a round picture of your favourite one inset into the body of the badge. I wanted John, my bother wanted Paul.
When we got home that evening we were bursting with excitement – she handed my brother a paper bag containing two badges but explained that by the time she had reached the store, all John and Paul badges had been sold. She bought George and Ringo.
My brother kept George and handed me Ringo. I was devastated. It was a big deal for a nine-year-old.
At that moment, and for quite a few moments after, I hated my brother.

Welcome @EasyZyder ! Hope you enjoy yourself around here.
You’d better watch what you say about Ringo – I’ve been voted this forum’s biggest Ringo fan for the last 4 years!
Did you end up getting a John badge?

@EasyZyder, thankfully you only hated your brother for moments instead of days, weeks, or months. After those few moments did you take pride in having a Beatles badge What? What did you do with your badge – display it at home, carry it to school, chuck it in a drawer and forget about it? Do you still have the badge? Do you still listen to The Beatles with your brother?
As you can see, I have so many questions for the people who were there for the beginning of Beatlemania!

Still feeling my way with these posts….
Below is a pic of the badge I never got. Poor old Ringo ended up in a drawer.
My bruv and I became massive Beatles fans. We never saw them live but bought all the singles, most of the albums and watched all the movies.
I still listen to them today (mainly via my Spotify playlist) and always favoured John’s songs. Strawberry Fields Forever and Tomorrow Never Knows still have a special place in my soul.
It’s impossible to properly describe how the emotional impact of their songs affected kids like us at the time. I thought they were so creative and totally different to everyone else on the music scene.
Sadly my brother died unexpectedly in his mid-50s. We played Across The Universe at his funeral.

Welcome to the forum @EasyZyder! It’s always very cool to hear from fans who lived through Beatlemania. Sorry to hear of your loss of your brother, too – Across The Universe is a beautiful tribute, though.

Well, there’s always ebay if you still need that John badge.

Sorry to hear about your bruv’s passing. Good song for his funeral.
The Beatles still pack that emotional punch after all these years. If you haven’t discovered it yet, many of our posters are very young.
