I don’t mind, it alerts me to the presence of other penguins on the forums. Yes, it’s a long story. No, I’m not going to tell it. @Elementary Penguin don’t worry, the Beatles had a zany sense of humour and it attracts a similar kind of fan 😀
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

The on-going jokes we have can make newcomers feel like outsiders. So if they stumble across something, I don’t mind telling them the history of the joke…like THE GIF.

Thank you all for making me feel welcome.
I will definitely ask if I come across any in jokes that I don’t understand and I will try not to kick anyone but I can’t make any promises.

My highbrow status as a long time user is forever shattered . I guess this now means that we are all equals here who share a love for four Liverpool dudes.

Hi All,
My name is Trevor and I live in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. I’m a first gen Beatles fan and can still remember buying my first single at the back end of 1963. It was I Want To Hold Your Hand and cost the princely sum of 6s 8d! I rather lost touch with music for a long time when I started work and discovered the fairer sex, all my vinyl disappeared from my parents home and I never found out where it went. I started listening to MP3s and CDs but was never entirely happy with the sound. I finally bought a decent streamer and have been listening to hi res FLAC for a while and it is a much more enjoyable experience. My brother who is also a Beatles fan recently bought a turntable and Please Please Me in mono and it made me wonder if I could recapture the original sound experience by doing the same. That was how I found this lovely community! If anyone has gone down this road I’d love to hear what you think.
Enough waffling and I look forward to joining in.
Best wishes.

Welcome to the forum @HappyHaggis ! It’s so great you experienced the Beatles in their active phase and there are also other first generation fans over here with which you can talk about the original sound experience.

HappyHaggisNot once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. Erlewine on Sgt Pepper's

Thank you both for the warm welcome! They were wonderful times for me growing up with such a wealth of great music. I’d frantically save my pocket money so I could buy the next single they released and steal my brother’s fan club magazines to read before he could hide them from me (brotherly love? I don’t think so! LOL) We weren’t that well off so albums had to be bought used from the local market, but it was fun searching through their collection, to find one in good condition.
