Im trying to finish my last year of high school while maintaining my music obsessions and aspirations, sarting a band is harder than I thought it would be. I have been teaching my friend who is a few years younger than I am how to play bass. I have no plans for college and plan to devote my entire life to the making of music. My “bassist” asked me once if I was leaving after I graduated and I assured him I was staying around to be in a band with him. I have recently found out he plans on going to college after he graduates, but now I’ve been thinking that I’m wasting time trying to teach him when he’s just going to leave eventually. Is this wrong thinking?Maybe you should help him. Do Good Have Good ! To get some members I think you should put some ad in newspaper. Duff McKagan (Guns N Roses’ bassist) joined them after reading the ad.
What instrument will you play ? What type of music will you create; Prog, Psychedelic, Hard , Folk, Pop , Rock n Roll ?
I’mg to sing and play guitar, and some keyboards here and there. I’d like to be able to play whatever comes to mind but mostly like rock things and wuzz fuzz wonders.
With love from me, to you.

I’m baaaack.
I’ve only gone for a week, but I thought it would be a bit longer, with tentaminations and papers due today. However, I finished everything last Tuesday so now I have the rest of the week off, and next week too.
I already got one paper graded, it’s a 7.6 out of 10 so that’s good. That was for my Ethical Dilemma paper. I’m a bit worried about my Qualitative Research paper, though I think it will be alright but I am truly worried about my exam, which was about psychiatric disorders. It was difficult, with some easy bits so I can’t really figure out how I did. So I’ll just have to wait.
Everything else is going pretty well I guess, as good as it can be considering the circumstances.

My son turned 16 yesterday; I have been saving a bit to make sure he had a good day in spite of current financial issues.
We had a super time – I let him take the day off school, which was certainly a great start from his perspective. We went into the city and had a nice lunch with some great dessert at the best cake shop in the country. His birthday gift is a game for his XBox One which is not released until next week but I bought him a ‘bonus’ gift so he had something on the day – a nice new headset for his computer (he had his old one so long it was held together with sticky tape). Then one of his sisters came over and gave him a surprise dinner.
The ‘official’ dinner is tonight with both sisters present, so a 2-day celebration. My brother in Brisbane is also getting him 2 games he has had his eye on but we couldn’t afford

@trcanberra, sounds like he had a great time as did yourself and the rest of the family. Some folk tend to nowadays think that if £39k isn’t spent on someone for their birthday or christmas then it’s the result of people being cheap uncaring b******s when in truth its less about the money and more about whats behind it all. I know you love the scriptures nowadays so here is 1 Corinthians 13.
Hey @Linde, good to see you baaaaack.
Congratulations on the excellent score of 7.6 out of 10 on your Ethical Dilemma Paper (i wonder if the issue of cheating on the paper is part of the exam?). Nothing you can do about the Qualitative Research paper or Psychiatric Disorders (just reading those titles gives me a ) now so forget about them and go enjoy the next 10 days or so of freedom.

Be careful what you say there @Ahhh Girl otherwise you might be mis-interpreted and become the focus of public bonfires and mass demonstrations.

If I knew what 1 Corinthians 13 is I could reply. I’ve never read the Bible. But I have listened to All You Need Is Love many times.
“Forsan et haec olim meminisse juvabit” (“Perhaps one day it will be a pleasure to look back on even this”; Virgil, The Aeneid, Book 1, line 203, where Aeneas says this to his men after the shipwreck that put them on the shores of Africa)

But of course @meanmistermustard, I’ve heard the “Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful…” part many times at weddings, and read “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child…” as a quotation many times too. Did you know that the “For now we see in a mirror, dimly” passage inspired Philip K. Dick’s Through A Scanner, Darkly –an excellent SciFi novel, and many others presumably? I’m a big fan of P. K. Dick.
And replying to @Ahhh Girl’s question, I think this Bible passage has had more impact on Western culture than All You Need Is Love .

@Linde Your head must be trippin after papers
It does, but I sorta enjoy being busy and working on papers, especially if I find the subjects interesting!
@trcanberra Your son’s birthday sounds like it was an awesome day! I agree with MMM, it’s not about the money, it’s about what’s behind it. My parents never had a lot of money but they always made sure we had a great time, and that’s what counts, and if I read your story, it sounds like he had a great time as well!

Thanks L – yes – I think with all the family around, a great dinner, plus a surprise gift as a bonus he had the best birthday ever.
As an aside; he had the Friday off so we could do stuff together – the absence note I gave him this morning basically said “away attending a plethora of birthday activities”. I will be interested to hear what the teacher has to say

That is so cool! And for giving him a day off he’ll probably consider you as his hero forever.
As a second aside – I have never worked on any of my birthdays; I figure if we can’t have one day to ourselves each year then life is hardly worth living. In my last job it took a few years for my work-mates to catch on – they eventually began giving me a ‘surprise’ birthday cake the day before or after.

Take a kid out of school for their birthday or a holiday and you get fined in England now. Stupid rule. Not sure about Scotland, i would doubt it as playing hooky is a part of growing up.
