I have a confirmed ticket for Scotland v Czech Republic at the Euro’s on 14th June 2021; Scotland’s first home match at a major competition in 23 years and I will be one of 12k fans allowed in. Got the email from UEFA on Monday. The other two tickets for the other two Hampden matches I had have been refunded.

Will be the first event for anything in 16 months I’ve attended.

Passport renewed for entry as you need photo ID to get in and have been fully vaccinated. No doubt I’ll need to get to Hampden 19 hours before kick-off, get intimately probed to ensure and prove I don’t have Covid, and not move or breathe the entire time I’m in the stadium without gaining personal permission from Nicola every second but still very excited.

I also have a new laptop as the screen case for the old one is severely bust. It’s a notebook or whatever it’s called and it’s bloody annoying getting used to the mousepad and keyboard layout.

oh, I feel that way about loads of Disney content (be it Marvel, Star Wars, whatever), but those first few episodes I saw were the most I got into a Disney era Star Wars thing, and I had TFA ranked as my second favourite SW movie for a while!

actual life update: just came across the term “rejection sensitive dysphoria” and so much about my life and experiences makes so much more sense now

Glasgow opens on Saturday (well it does at the moment but it may be closed by the time I’ve typed this) and so I am going to the cinema for the day as why the hell not, there is sod all to do until the Euro’s start so it’s either the cinema or doing whatever I’ve done for the last 16 months which is beyond boring.

Am going to see ‘Cruella’, ‘A Quiet Place II’ and ‘King Kong v Godzilla’, all in one long run. Will hopefully be a very needed distraction from life (“Sometimes you think that life is hard and this is only one of them”).

Went to the cinema for the first time since February 2020.

‘A Quiet Place Part Two’ – very enjoyable and some very fine jump scares that get you moving. Well worth seeing.

‘King Kong v Godzilla’ – Aside from Kong looking wonderful the film is complete garbage. If you turned off your brain after accepting that the plot, acting and dialogue were always going to be inconsequential for such a film (seriously, I would be amazed if the script went thru a second draft), you’d still be insulted by the awful fight scenes between the two monsters. I was laughing at how bad the whole thing was. Watch a gorilla on the internet and save your existence from being questioned by yourself as you sit and watch this guff.

I just did some online shopping for Ruggable rugs. Amazon didn’t have the pattern and color I wanted so I ended up buying the rugs from the Ruggable site. I wish I could have helped Joe out with my purchase ahdn_paul_01, but I do use his link for a lot for other things on Amazon.

I picked out 5 patterns, and asked Ohhh Boy which one he liked. Turns out, he picked the exact one I really liked. So nice when you are on the same wavelength as your spouse.

Some very bad news, folks, for you, after dying on Wednesday evening, it just switching off and refusing to turn back on, with the power light out, suddenly the power light was back this morning, and when I switched it on, it worked! ahdn_john_08_gif Feck knows what was happening mccartney-shrug_01_gif but happy to have my laptop working again.

Given the chance I would. Very dysfunctional family. I last spoke to her over twenty years ago. Her choice not mine. Might even be dead for all I know. Last I heard only my two sisters were in contact with each other. Even withheld from me that I might have an heredity heart condition, which it turned out I did have, for many years.

You choose your friends, not your family, and some families are crap despite what you’d wish and want.

Bit of a more serious response than you might have expected, but honest.

I can relate to that to some extent. My mother and I were extremely close until as recently as last year, but now I try to avoid speaking to her altogether. My girlfriend and my best friend also both have toxic families, the latter having basically cut them all off at this point (my gf actually called me in the middle of me writing this, partially about her family). You’re right, you get to choose your friends, and sometimes they can make up for crappy families, or at least almost make up for them.

On a completely unrelated (and much more positive) note, I am currently preparing to present at my first ever academic conference! I am pursuing a PhD in philosophy starting in August, but I’ve already been invited to present my undergraduate thesis at a graduate level conference (being held by Cambridge, no less!), which is a massive honor. Sadly I don’t see myself spending a lot of time on the politics and philosophy thread, as political discussions can get very exhausting for me, and I have other outlets for discussing academic philosophy (though I’d be happy to discuss stuff like that with people here–I’m almost always up for a good intellectual chat!)

Besides that, I’ve been keeping busy with my tutoring job, keeping up with medical appointments (pro tip: don’t sleep through your appointments!), preparing for my move across the country for grad school in July (I’m American, so it’s a big move), and trying to stave off pandemic and life-transition induced depression. You know, maybe spending more time here would help with that last part…a-hard-days-night-paul-7)
