Maybe this should go in “Nine Random Facts about You” but since it’s all happening now, here I go (beware little children: it’s going to be boring):
- I’m broke, dirt poor
- I’m lonely, I won’t see my fiancée for a long time (I won’t tell the reasons why)
- I’m gaining weight and it’s difficult to follow a diet, though I’m trying
- I know I should exercise again but I lack the energy or the motivation
- I’ve finished two very nice drawings in my Art Class –I’m proud
- Haven’t seen one single friend in a month or so; everybody is busy it seems
- This post has absolutely nothing to do with anything anybody else has written about themselves, so probably nobody will care.
- I have no exciting stories about romances or flings (’coz I’m engaged), or school life (’coz I’m old) or sailing in the Caribbean (something I’ve always wanted to do but haven’t); so this post is boring, I know.
- I still listen to The Beatles though.

@Oudis, did the home renovations break the bank? Is the art class through a school or a community organization? Can you tell us a little bit about your drawings? Are they abstract or people or landscapes?

How long you been engaged for @Oudis, have you set a date?
Must suck mightly not being able to see each other often. Don’t other means of contact not fill the void somewhat?
As for being a boring post, far from it. You didnt once mention any of the mundane crap that facebook is filled with so you are already far ahead in the interest levels.
I have just moved rooms in a hotel due to the noise outside my window. I find it very difficult to get to sleep with extraneous noises around. I have also taken two sleeping pills.
[Thats edge of your seat info right there, up there with the photobucket details.]

- I can relate; I hope your financial situation improves, even if it takes a while.
- I too have tried eating healthier and exercising in the past, yet lack the motivation to continue—and it’s tough to find the motivation to start again.
- As @Ahhh Girl asked, what kind of drawings are they? I just put the finishing touches on a non-objective charcoal drawing today in my art class.
- Wrong, we care.
- You’re lucky
- I’ve done that, but I was pretty young and I don’t remember it that well. Maybe we’ll both have the opportunity to go someday.
- We’re glad to hear that.

Thanks guys for your comments, you’re very kind. I’ll see if I can reply… I’m broke because I was renovating parts of my house, which meant a lot of money (at least for me) and then one of my tenants (yes, I have tenants) left and I had to fix some problems in that house to rent it again. So, more money spent. And I won’t have that rent for who knows how long. I’m crossing my fingers, that’s all I can do now. That’s number one. Number two: I’ve been in a relationship with this lady for two years and although we haven’t set a date, marriage has been mentioned. We are taking it slowly. She’s the most generous, caring woman I know, although at times she snaps (who doesn’t?) and she won’t let me smoke in the house. Ah, I hate that. I can’t do without my pipes and my cigars. Yes, we’ll keep in touch through Skype (we’ve done it before) but we won’t spend Xmas Eve and New Year’s Eve together as we had planned. They’ll be lonely days for me. Number three: my drawings. I only started formal training this year, and it’s not so formal. I usually go to my teacher with a sketch or an idea and we take it from there. So far I’ve done a drawing in pastel that was inspired by the surrealist painters and more specifically Max Ernst, then I did a marina in oil crayons, and then and a large drawing (in pencil) of many of James Ensor’s grotesque faces and masks (if you don’t know him, google it; you won’t regret it). I did some sort of… collage of many of his paintings, choosing different characters from them and drawing them in a different setting. And now that I think about it, that’s one of the things I like the most about The Beatles’ lyrics: yeah, some times they tell a story, but many others they are collages of images –and sounds. I cannot think of a better example than I Am The Walrus (which is, by the by, a perfect example of the “mental automatism” the Surrealists talked about). I guess I’ll start painting in oil on canvas either in December or maybe next year, if things go well.
Thanks again all of you for you replies, and I hope you can sleep well, Meanmistermustard.

Sounds like you’ve found someone special @Oudis, and relationships are all about compromise so whilst you have to not smoke in the house there will be things she likes to do but doesnt. Its all about give and take. Hopefully you can sort something out for Christmas so you’re not on your own for the whole day, even if it isnt with your fiance.
The imagery the Beatles created in their lyrics could be so vivid and colourful at times. One of the many things they were incredible at doing. And good luck with getting a new tenant soon and with your art. Out of interest do you find painting a relaxing past time to wind the hours down, a way of releasing the stresses of life, or something else?

I have to repeat what I said when I first registered here. This is exactly the kind of thing that sets this site apart from others: kind, caring and civil members. It is clear that the site has become a comfortable refuge for many members and that the active users are more like family than most real families. Somebody’s been paying attention to all those Beatles’ lyrics about love.

Well @meanmistermustard, if you want to know, the story goes like this. I went to college, university, and for decades I worked in a field that had nothing to do with art –but I was always involved in some kind of amateur artistic endeavor: comic strips, short stories, music… A couple of years ago I found two books in a second-hand bookstore: “Rousseau” by Cornelia Stabenow (the Taschen series) and the wonderful “Recollections of Henri Rousseau” by his friend Wilhelm Uhde. And I thought “Well, if Le Douanier, as he was known, started to paint when he was in his early forties, and retired from his job to work on his art full-time when he was forty nine, why can’t I start to paint? I’m only forty eight!” And I started to sketch and draw, to go to museums, to buy art books. It’s more than a hobby, it’s more like… a serious project for the last thirty or forty (if I’m very lucky…) years of my life. And drawing and painting even give me physical pleasure, grabbing the pens or the brushes and tracing lines or working with colors is sheer joy.

Ah, but ‘How Do You Sleep?’ is not a Beatles song, its a Lennon one.
So what are you’re subject preferences when it comes to painting @Oudis? Are you a portrait person? A landscape? Someone fired by their imaginations, their past, their influences and likes? Does it matter? You mentioned all these artists Stabenow, Rousseau, Ensor but that all means nothing to me.

haven’t posted in a while, university kept me really busy. I’ve been listening to a lot of stuff lately, Gary Moore, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, The Aristocrats and etc. I keep coming back to the Beatles .
Became engrossed with teamspeak and Skype, chatting with my gaming buddies.
edit: also left my old flat and got a new house with lots of space for audio equipment and memorabilia
edit 2: cut my hair last April, was growing it for 2 years. I believe stress with university led me to getting Alopecia Areata D: I’m still waiting patiently for it to grow back to its old length

I had a box of pizza, didn’t want to go through all the trite things to do on your birthday.
Teamspeak is a voice chatting software.
It’s always reassuring that someone cares for you over the internet

@meanmistermustard , at this stage I can’t say I have a style; if I keep on practicing and studying I might come up with my own style in let’s say… five years? I’ve done many drawings (copying them from books, in pastel mostly) and some were naturalistic portraits, some were cubist paintings, some were surrealist landscapes. I have a certain fascination for everything oneiric and/or grotesque, that’s why I like Ernst or Ensor. I’m posting a collage by Max Ernst and a painting by Ensor. Thanks for your interest, Oudis.
