@mja5867 you could benefit from an HDMI chord for your old laptop to hook to your TV for the process of transferring the files to the new computer. Also you can get them rather long. I want to mine was like 20ft or so.
Update in my life. I got a job about a week ago at a call center, and right before the training on Thursday Sam’s Club called me with a very good job offer. However I decided to postpone my decision to accept the job till Friday. After realizing that this call center job is cheeks with the pay and the hours, I called Sam’s Club back promptly on Friday. Unfortunately they didn’t answer.
So I started my job at the call center where I have to call people and beg them for money(you know those calls that you hang up on instantly). Anyway I do that 3 hour shifts, one shift a day, and it pays megerly.
To my surprise Sam’s Club called me back on Monday and got me hooked up with the job there, so this may be my last week at the dreaded phone basement. Then I’ll be off to the warehouse store, kinda like that guy from Yesterday .

As I said to AG, Billy, that’s assuming only the screen went yesterday. It would be cheaper to be able to do it that way (and less of a worry about what they might think of the… ahem… adult material on my laptop) but could equally be a waste of money if what’s gone wrong is more than the screen.

I’m seriously considering getting a new laptop next Wednesday. It’ll make the next month very tough financially, taking around a third of what I get moneywise, but I’m hating this. Don’t know what to do with my hands most of the time. I’m not good at just sitting here watching TV and doing nothing else.
Tomorrow I get the first of the three payments I get across four weeks. Can’t do it with that, as that would mean laptop, electric, tobacco, leaving me with less than a tenner for food until Wednesday. But Wednesday I get my PIP payment, which with £50 from tomorrow’s payment would do it if I cut out most of my discretionary spending for the month.
That seems like a plan. I don’t want to be without a laptop when AR 50th comes out, which sensibly saving would mean.
Got a letter from the hospital calling me in for an ultrasound on the 27th. GP was unhappy with my last blood test.
So, another thing to worry about.

Not easy…….Very hard in fact……But my dad was a 60 a day kensitas tipped smoker. He didn’t know he was also diabetic.
I went to see him in hospital…..Even unconscious his shaky hand driven by muscle memory was travelling to his lips and he was drawing on an invisible cigarette……You could see the frustration on his face that he was missing the nicotine hit…….
When he came round addicted as he was……he packed in smoking immediately and never went back to it.
Given a serious health issue that’s less than immediately terminal in which case why bother?….The health issue was enough for my old dad to stop…….
Saved a fortune.

Afraid I don’t consider tobacco one of the discretionary spendings, those would be the takeaways, alcohol, music magazines, and Maryjane.

Pity but I understand……..Certainly you’d be less likely to find yourself propped up and puffing against the wall like last week after rushing back to the shop…….
Glad to see AR trumps all other spending….We get so much pleasure from our fan’ship.
Out of interest I’ve never smoked or been introduced to maryjane……..She’s a pain anyway!
I only had one vice when I was a lad….And my mum said I’d go blind….I thought it was worth risking one eye……
Coincidentally….
Just spoke to my older brother in the UK…..He’s got a build-up of blood behind one eye and is temporarily blind in it……
His words were when I enquired as to his health……..
“Ere’…..Johnny….. I’ve gon deaf in one eye’
I replied, ‘Muvver always said you would.’

I’m going on a date tomorrow. I’m nervous but excited. I’m going to be my natural self. Wish me luck, guys. If she asks about my music taste, rest easy The Beatles will be mentioned.

My technique as a lad was always to be confident but self-deprecating and to make her laugh………In the end that became my natural self ……. So much so that I don’t know who I really was before………Quite sad really.
However, one moment I must relate ……
Many years later and by then a practised wooer of women….I was invited to a dinner party ……I was by this time in my 40s, divorced and between wives…..I must point out that in my profession political correctness and a fairly strident feminism was already well established.
I was good enough at my job and ran a successful enterprise judged on all the available data to be in the top half, of the top one percent of statistically similar establishments throughout the UK…..My reputation for being an outlier in terms of political correctness was well known but because of my relative success it was tolerated by my peers….. at least to my face.
A small standing circle formed after dinner and a very attractive woman was holding the floor she was the only single lady there and I was the only single man………A set-up then perhaps?
She was asked what she looked for in a man……This was a subject that she’d obviously given some thought to…..
‘What do I look for in a man?”…..Looking to the ceiling she rattled her list off……”He must have a sense of humour, and be able to make me laugh…. have strength combined with sensitivity, That’s important…..He should always share decisions and never ever try to dominate me. I’d like a man that can cook for me and willingly share the housework equally……Though when it’s called for I don’t want a helpless wimp…..He must be able to change a tyre and be practical around the house…..Above all he should respect that I’m a strong woman equal to him in every way and a committed feminist.’
Somehow the eyes of the circle turned expectantly upon me……Eyebrows were raised as if to question…..’And you?
“I proudly recall saying: “I’m just looking for a shag!”
Well it wouldn’t have worked out would it?

Good luck. As I always say, the best thing you can do on a first date is to go through the details of every album by your favourite band in chronological order… Works every time

I’m dedicated to the difficult task known as “learning to sing while playing guitar in 10 days”There’s a college talent show on the way and I, though only a guitar beginner, want to have a try.
(To the disappointment of BBers, it’s not a Beatles song—but surely I’d love to do Beatles covers in the future )

Listen up, Beatle buddies. I went to my lunch date. I think it went well for people that hadn’t really met before. I was confident and we were always talking. We had lunch, went for a walk along the coast, had a sit on a bench overlooking the ocean, had a chat and then departed. I didn’t want to look like a creep and have all my hands over her, especially after just starting to get to know each other. I think a follow up would only increase a connection. I’ve sent a text just now saying thanks for coming along. I’ll see what happens from here. If there’s no reply that’s the answer.
