One of my friends once went to Ireland with her grandparents and while they were in some sort of pub (i think it was a pub but i could be wrong) some people started playing music and they made her come up onstage and dance. She described it as her stepping onto the stage and being flung from person to person and having NO IDEA what was going on. Sounds dizzying to me.
That’s basically what it is if you’re not familiar with the dances, and it’s only made more chaotic if people have been drinking They are a LOT of fun though, I always have a blast whenever I go to one.

I went to a reading of Shakespeare’s sonnets last night (half of them, anyway). I performed Sonnet LXII set to music — I put it in 5/8 as a nod to the pentameter, which was REALLY HARD to work in! Mine went pretty well and the event was, as expected*, a lot of fun.
*I’ve been doing it every year since it started four years ago and it’s only improved.

That sounds awesome! What was the setup for the music?

No one has mentioned Avengers Endgame. I went on Wednesday first Class cinema with the business class seats and food delivered etc.
No spoilers……Funny, sad, exciting, entertaining…The best 3 hours I’ve spent in a cinema since The Godfather. Time’s relative even outside of the quantum realm …..It flew by.
A poignant start, they knew what they were aiming for 11 years and 22 films ago and a fitting post credits conclusion.
Even some good 60s music to take us out of the gloom of the last instalment.
A homage for people like me who grew up with Marvel.
I’m actually grateful. 6 stars out of 5.
As for GOT Episode 3….I was a nervous wreck…had to go for a jog on the beach to calm down.

Wait , @Wigwam , a post credits conclusion? I haven’t seen the film yet, but I’ve had to clean the cinema screens after it many times, and I have seen no end credits scene or anything. Good to hear that it’s enjoyable, though, I’m itching to see it myself.

I haven’t given anything away by saying ‘fitting’ …don’t worry……It’s no secret that there are no scenes you need to wait round for.

yeah, probably. Anyway i think i don’t need to take it out to fix the bloody thing… i’m not handy at all for this kind of things … so i’m screwed anyway 😉
Maybe you could just get a pair of pliers and yank it out? That’s my general strategy for pretty much everything…

I think the only film I’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Iron Man which I saw in approx. 2010. Superhero films aren’t really my shtick, the only ones I can really say I’ve liked are Tobey Maguire’s Spider-man trilogy (yes even the 3rd one, I know), Nolan’s Batman trilogy and then all of the old ’80’s and ’90’s Batman films (can you tell I like Batman?).
I used to watch all of the cartoons when I was a kid as well, ’60’s Spider-man, X-Men, and of course, Batman: The Animated Series.
Wait a second…maybe superhero films ARE my shtick?!? Ah well, I’m not going to watch them anyways, life’s too short.
As regards GoT, I’ve been posting on the forum about it since I joined here and I was trying to get a GoT PM thread started up but it never happened. I’ve been watching it since late 2013, and I think the quality has diminished so much from that golden S1-4 era. I did a rewatch before S8 started and watching S5, 6, 7 (especially S6 and 7) was like pulling teeth. Awful writing, some bad direction, and the only thing that keeps it watchable is there’s good CGI (and even then, now in S8 the lighting is so non-existent you can barely see anything!). I’ve found the first 2 episodes of S8 terrible and was looking forward to more terrible writing but good CGI in e3, alas, the plot was so crap with SO MUCH plot armour, and the ending was as anti-climatic as all hell.
Awful conclusion to ‘that’ part of the show, and I don’t know how many people were satisfied by it.
As to why some people are wondering why I still watch it in S4, Sky Atlantic started broadcasting the episodes live at 2am so I stay up with a friend and we’ve watched it together annually. We then make happy comments or criticise over Facebook and I feel like I’ve been watching it for so long (started when I was 15, now I’m 21- gah!) that I should probably see how it ends. If it wasn’t for my friend, I’d probably just read the summaries on Wiki and call it a day, I dislike it that much. Anyhoo, only 3 weeks left, woot, and I’ll just pretend in the future the show ended after S4.

I was watching ‘fans react to latest GOT’ videos on youtube yesterday….Lovely. Something about watching people of very different ages, colours and backgrounds to my own, sharing the same tension, excitement, shock…..appreciation.
I thought the sub-plots, character-arcs and clues dropped like bread crumbs into the series as a whole and leading up to certain moments of conclusion fascinating, satisfying.
Perhaps my age comes into this…….It could be that looking back over the years I recognise that personally I haven’t seen anything like GOT in my life….. Other great series to be sure, (Breaking Bad for instance) but nothing matching the scale, ruthlessness and complexity of GOT…Not in my 66 years anyway (though The Monkees came close..5555!).
When GOT’s played out to checkmate and the final credits roll it’ll be a long time waiting for another……So I’m relishing every moment. There may not be another.
Who knew George Martin could write like this?? 5555!
