Just got home from a camping trip a couple days ago, which explains why I wasn’t here for a week. It was ok.

On a brighter note, in the last year I’ve grown an inch and lost 6kgs (13 pounds). HELL YEAH! (I’ve done literally nothing except not eat a block of chocolate every 2 hours…)
I’ve been on a self betterment kick lately. Using this special face wash, eating healthier…riding a bike, walking to work from the city instead of getting the bus. I’m a good looking guy already () but it all helps. I’m on a mission for more female attention. Wish me well!

I finished college a while ago, and have recently accepted an extremely rare opportunity to undertake a degree apprenticeship with a nearby company.
On paper it sounds amazing. Proper salary. Working within the company for the next 5 years. Good hours.
Yet…..I don’t know. No matter how hard I try, I just can’t feel excited about it. My family keep telling me how great it is, how I can’t turn down an opportunity like this, etc. The chance to get a degree whilst working and not having to pay any uni fees at all sounds great, but I’m having second thoughts. I’d still actually have to attend uni on block release (and/or do distance learning) part time. For me it means the next 5 years being spent on assignments, exams, work, more assignments….sigh. I haven’t even started yet and the thought of it all is already stressing me out. I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle it.

Most of the students at my university work and take classes (and many care for children and/or parents, too). **You can do it.** Just schedule your time wisely. We want periodic updates on your progress

That’s true…I just can’t stop having doubts though. Having the usual combination of anxiety/depression doesn’t help either.
Knowing uni has modules where presentations are specifically required for a percentage of the marks is even worse. I know it sounds stupid but I just can’t do them. They are a nightmare for me. I’m not sure how the modules work with degree apprenticeships. Maybe I’ll be lucky and it won’t require those sort of things? Somehow I doubt it.
Do you work at a university by any chance? Do you have any insight to how things work for part-time/apprentice students?

I work at a university in the United States. You’re in the U.K., right? I’m not sure what their system is like. Most likely, the uni has a support team that can answer your questions. Take a look at their website. If you want to PM me with the name of the uni, I will do some digging and see what answers I can find for you.
So you will have to do presentations? Remember, Paul McCartney says he still gets butterflies in his stomach when he is about to go on stage to perform. You just go “Oh, what the hell, I’m going to get up there and do this.” Then it is over. Done. And then you go on with what you have to do for the rest of the day. I’d do 1,000 presentations instead of going to the dentist. I can recommend some books about getting over presentation anxiety if you need me to.
@AppleScruffJunior, do you have any insight on the uni system that might help HeyJules?

Yes, I’m in the UK. I’ll PM you the course and uni I’ll be studying at.
It’s not like I wouldn’t do them if I could, but I truly can’t. It’s happened so many times I’ve lost count – I’ll read out a sentence then the panic just gets to me, my throat goes all tight and I just can’t read anymore. Then I can feel everyone staring at me.. It’s held me back in a lot of ways. When I was still at college my friend convinced me to join her performing arts club and I ended up quitting after a few weeks because I couldn’t stand the thought of being in front of all those people.
I’m not sure if presentations/oral exams are actually part of the course, but as degree apprenticeships still require university study to gain the qualification I wouldn’t be surprised if they were included. They mentioned over the phone to me that there would be exams and assessments on-site. My letter also mentions e-learning and block release as methods of study. I’m really hoping these assessments don’t include presentations/oral exams.
I only found out a few days ago that I even got the apprenticeship so I don’t know all the details yet. I agreed to start early at the company in August (seeing as I’m not doing anything at the moment), but the course itself doesn’t start until September.

While the other convention-goers went to a museum, I decided to check out the Beatles section of the downtown Minneapolis Public Library.
At least you don’t seem to have rearranged THEIR shelves too much to get them all two shots .
Yes, I remember you fussing over the Beatles section in Liverpool’s Central Library…
Flawed as it was, surprised to see my Beatles primer still on library shelves approaching forty years after it was published, though it still holds up remarkably well despite all that’s been learnt since.
Which book?

Two guesses:
‘Here Come The Beatles’
‘The Beatles Forever’
Honestly most of those books are fairly recent, so finding one ‘approaching forty years’ old is quite hard!

A4 size book, @The Hole Got Fixed, published in 1980.
In many ways a great beta for much of what @Joe has done on the main site here – songs, albums, people, places… without the bias of some other attempts…
With some tweaks, Joe could easily publish much of the main site as a modern equivalent, and see it welcomed…

I’m standing here in front of this Paul McCartney display at Target Field in Minneapolis trying not to cry in front of all these strangers. I don’t know why I’m so emotional.

That is SO cool!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think people in Minnesota are McCartney/Beatle fans: I have a Minneapolis paper from ’65 or ’66; the entire left side of the page is devoted to the Beatles arriving in town and the entire right side is devoted to the the success of the latest Gemini space mission. There is nothing else on the entire page as if nothing else in the world mattered. Love it.

Sounds intriguing… I’ll keep an eye out for a copy @Ron Nasty, as it’s sure to have some stuff I’ve never seen before (3000 entries… goodness!)
That reminds me… I mustn’t have ordered Riding So High, as it never arrived. 2 books to go and find, what a shame

The Beatles played in Minneapolis in ’65.
Thank you, @Joe, for all the good information. I went to the Mall of America while I was here. I probably stood where the Beatles stood.

Probably because you missed that “Sir Paul McCartney Day” on August 2nd.
