Wait , yesterday was ewe2’s birthday, i thought Merch was the only one who had a birthday yesterday.
Yes, I don’t generally advertise my birthday what with the internet hoovering up all your personal data and selling it (looking at you, Facebook!), but I like to tell people when its around so it’s up to them to remember it or whatever. I’m generally bad with dates, names, birthdays, and I have enough trouble remembering my own age!
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

Aye, lads, ’tis orthodontic troubles again for me. I’m drowning my sorrows in music and Internet (listening to RAM on headphones, a bit of a treat since I have to sit next to my record player to do so and I hardly ever). It’s helping slightly.
Did have a REALLY awesome band practise this afternoon… we played ‘Money’ (the Floyd one) at the end and ended up improv-jamming for several minutes and doing all kinds of crazy Hendrix Experience-style things (at least, I was certainly going a bit Jimi Hendrix/Matt Bellamy with feedback, pick-scraping, and other such rubbish — I’d not had much luck with feedback so far because I normally play too quietly, but I discovered that if the volume is loud enough, it’ll feed right back )… ’twas brilliant!

When I mention ‘we’ had a band practise, it’s referring to the band I’m in and not just me noodling at home. It consists of me on guitar and vocals and occasionally bass, two brothers on bass and guitar and sometimes keyboards (we all three swap bass, lead, and second/rhythm guitar around, depending on what song it is), a drummer, a violinist, and a harmonica/tambourine player/musical ignoramus/good-natured person. By that point, the lads who play drums and violin had wandered off to get a drink or somesuch, so it was just the four of us making a great racket. It was wonderful.

Now that’s something that i’d kill to see, i especially like how the three of you switch from bass/lead/rhythm depending on the song like The Beatles did for some songs like Helter Skelter . Say, does you violinist play any guitar because if he can that means that you can do songs with 3 guitar parts in them like Ticket To Ride .

@Beatlebug, I hope your teeth stop wreaking havoc on you sometime soon!
@sir walter raleigh, I’m very sorry to hear that. Sending your way.
In other news, the camping trip turned out fairly well. We drove around to local towns and such, swam in a lake, etc etc. I sure am glad to be back at home, though!

Work experience log – Day 5
I had two meetings today, neither of which were very eventful.
There was also some banter which I can’t repeat…
The only interesting thing today, was that the chief got me to spend 1 and a half hours researching good songs for next year! I refrained myself from completely filling with Beatles songs, but:
-for the ‘128-150BPM mass dance’ song category, I suggested Taxman (134BPM)
-for the orchestra/floor projections category, I suggested A Day In The Life
-for the ‘other’ category, I suggested With A Little Help From My Friends , as it’s about friendship, not love, and it’s a good little song.
I also suggested 15 other songs, which I can post here if you really want me to.
Otherwise, that concludes my work experience log! I hope you enjoyed!

You’re underestimating yourself, anyone who owns an actual Fender Stratocaster and not a Squier and is not insanely rich is at least a decent guitarist and i’ve heard you play before, although it isn’t perfect, it’s not bad, it’s better than a lot of the stuff you hear nowadays on pop radio or as i like to call it “i can’t sing or play an instrument so i’ll just be a pop star who autotunes their voice and uses samples off the internet” music. *as a note, not all modern music is like this, I’m just talking about the worst that you can find on pop radio.
Hold the phones, DO — I didn’t say I was rubbish (cos I’m not, although I’m far from professional), I said we as a group were rubbish. Individually we’re not bad musicians, but we’re nowhere near as tight as we could be. Also, the lad who plays a Squier Telecaster is at least as good as I am or better. You need to stop equating gear with skill.
As for your violin player, i recommend someone teach him how to play guitar, whether it be you or someone else. All string instruments are very similar in how they’re played so it shouldn’t be too hard for him to convert from violin to guitar in the same way that if i picked up a violin right now, i would be able to play something on it, it wouldn’t be Beethoven or Mozart but it’d be something. It might take some time for him to get used to playing the guitar but once he’s able to play it, he’s now a more valuable member because now you have a violinist for those rare moments where a violin part is needed as well as a 4th guitarist and or bassist.
I’d like to see you pick up a violin and play something that wouldn’t make everyone within earshot attack you and confiscate said violin and I’m not going to make him play guitar. I don’t fancy he would do anything he didn’t want to. You don’t seem to understand — Sir Walter and I, we’re not working with abstract music-makers here, these are actual people who are our friends and in my case are primarily doing this to have fun.
Anyway, we already have three guitarists (bass counts as a guitar ), which is usually more than enough — for instance, we often play songs by Muse, which are a trio and usually only contain a bass and one guitar part (sometimes keyboards), and so either someone gets stuck playing rhythm guitar (and it’s often me, as I have to sing — ergh ) or we end up doubling the lead, which is fun but a bit tacky.

Went into the same charity shop where I saw Tubular Bells, but bought that psychedelic compilation CD instead (not the one where I did work experience), and BOOM! About seven Beatles books staring me in the face, two of which were John Lennon books! I only had £10 though, so I bought two of them:
A Hard Day’s Write by Steve Turner
25 Years In The Life by Mark Lewisohn
Perhaps I might get one of the John books next time around because they looked interesting.

That is the best fun of all being a musician. I feel only half a bassplayer when I’m not playing with someone else, and I know it’s the same for my friends who play other instruments. The first real jam I had with mates was a special moment, and I’m lucky in that I recorded it, and it’s terrible but you can hear we’re having fun!
