Sorry that I haven’t been on in awhile, I didn’t have access to a computer so today has really sucked. One thing I did that you might like to know is played Kansas’s 1976 Carry On My Wayward Son for the first time and I was very impressed. I didn’t practice this song at all, I just had a go at it on the spot without really knowing what to play and did a fairly good job at it, I was especially surprised when I almost perfected the first part of the outro solo without ever playing it before.

I thought you guys might like to know that i got a Windows 7 desktop that i thought was missing the operating system working. Apparently, it still had the operating system on there, i just had to restore it and since i had previously bought a USB wifi thingy for this thing, that works fine. Also, since the version of Internet Explorer on this machine sucks and i was unable to download the newest version, i am using Google Chrome, so this is the first time i’ve used this forum without Internet Explorer.

Well I did it! I finished my exams on Wednesday, and then I graduated high school on Saturday! It’s all over now. At graduation my principal gave a speech where he said that he wasn’t gonna tell us good luck because “luck is for people who sit around waiting for life to happen to them.” Then when we got our diploma, he shook our hands and told us “Good luck”. I’m not sure if it was just a force of habit mistake, or a passive aggressive thing.

Today I’m going to this party my band teachers are throwing for us seniors called the “You Can Call Us By Our First Names Now Party”.

On the way to band practice with a new band formed by me and my brother. Our gig this Saturday will be a four hours of only Beatles tunes.

Is it just you and your brother or is there anybody else in there. Also, who plays what, i’d guess you on piano and vocals and your brother on drums, possibly with someone else on bass and guitar. I wish i were there, i’d love to hear 4 hours of nothing but Beatles music.

Congrats, @William Shears Campbell! That’s a big achievement!

@sir walter raleigh, what are some of the songs you’ll be playing?

We have a lefty bassist and a drummer, so my brother will be playing George’s guitar parts, i’ll play John’s. Unless there is a piano part, in which I’ll be Paul, John, George Martin, and Billy Preston all rolled into one.

Although half of the set it acoustic, with my brother and I both on guitar singing harmony.

Some of my favorites to sing are:

Sexy Sadie

Get Back

A Hard Days Night

Please Please Me

Tell Me What You See

Ticket To Ride

and many others. I get to do a Roy Orbison impression during Handle With Care as well!

What about songs like Birthday and Maxwell’s Silver Hammer that require 2 guitars and a piano, what do you do then. Great song choices though, i wish i lived in Georgia.

We aren’t doing Birthday because it is flippin’ impossible to play. Maxwell’s we aren’t doing either, because we can’t do them all! We tried to only pick songs that could be done with four.

i’ll try to get some videos for you guys to post in the “your beatles covers” thread.

With the exception of the fact that it requires 2 lead guitars, bass, drums, piano, tambourine, and both male and female singers to do it properly, i never thought of Birthday as a hard song to play, especially that John’s guitar, George’s (or possibly Paul’s) guitar, and Paul’s (or possibly George’s) bass are all playing the same riff during the verses, just in different octaves. If you want to know more about how to play the song, ask me in another thread, i’d gladly show you through the process if you like.

Anyways to get this thread back on topic (sometimes i feel like i derail threads a lot), i had dinner and got really pissed off at my younger brother for using my computer as well for not getting out of my room. Also, I’ve been using my desktop as a footrest while i’m using it, it feels so great.

The riff is fun and easy, but the transition from the first part to the “I would like you to dance” is tough to be together on with a band, and then that section goes crazy on piano and guitar making it difficult to play and sing.

You could always pick a member from the crowd to sing, i bet there’s at least a few people in the crowd who’d love to. As for the 2 verse to chorus transitions, the 1st one is very simple and the 2nd one is just the 2 guitars playing an octave apart, you could just use an octave pedal if you’d like. Do you want me to go into more detail on advice on playing the song in the appropriate thread because i don’t want to derail this one.

I’m busy with my “new” job – it’s been 8 weeks now. They recently extended my contract to the end of September.

HKL is busy turning into an eskimo.

Our permanent visa application is in and we have a bridging visa to keep her in Oz until they make their decision.

We are fairly active on Facebook if anyone wants to PM me for my id.

Cheers to all – I’m trying to get on here more often.

Yesterday evening I slammed my middle finger (left hand) in a drawer, still painful this afternoon so took the plaster off and it was immediately bleeding as it was last night. It’s now wrapped up in an eye patch dressing to try and apply more pressure and protection, still sore and can’t type with it.

Took every ounce of professionalism to not launch into a litany of vulgarities when I applied an antibacterial spray-on plaster tonight; lying naked in a field of nettles whilst having boiling hot water poured over you wouldn’t come close to that moment of agony. Annoyingly, the spray-on plaster was useless.

I found out what was wrong with my monitor that has a yellow tint to it and it surprised me. I had my father look at it after dinner and apparently it’s supposed to look that way and my other monitor (actually a TV screen) is the one that’s broken because the screen’s too white. It sounds weird but my father works with computers for a living and has been regularly using them since 1991, so he must be right.

Then what made you think the yellow tint was the weird one? Maybe you’d gotten used to the too-white screen for so long.
