@Beatlebug + @AppleScruffJunior
Yeah I will agree that much of George’s music is very spiritual, which I love about so much of his music. Again it all depends on what my mission president will say. Some are more lenient, and let you listen to anything that’s spiritually uplifting, and then there are some that only what you to listen to stuff that the church produces. It’s not that all other music is bad, but for the time on my mission I need to be 100% focused on the gospel, and can’t have too many distractions.

Also @ASJ, I’ve never seen The Book of Mormon, or heard the soundtrack, despite being Mormon. Although I testify that the book is better. ahdn_george_06

@HMBeatlesfan said
A couple of questions Billy:

1. How would’ve they known for the Chick Fil A gift card that you really didn’t use internet/music/TV/etc. or if you just said that you did, kind of stupid when you think about it

Well I suppose I could have just filled in the card and turned it in, but a missionary is supposed to be honest. Also if I didn’t actually do it I wouldn’t benefit from the week. The point is to live like a missionary for a week, so since I’m going to be living that way for 2 years, I might as well take that opportunity to practice.

2. Why are you going on such a long mission

Well LDS missions last for two years if you are a guy. If you’re a girl, it is only 18 months. It’s just the way it is.

3. You should try to ask your mission president if you can listen to The Beatles, I’m pretty sure he’ll say yes, it isn’t like heavy metal or rap where someone would have a legitimate reason to disapprove of it, Actually the teacher at Sunday School used to play The Beatles in front of us when I was a kid and everybody likes The Beatles, even Ned Flanders, someone who takes Christianity so seriously that his children are practically brainwashed and he follows the bible word to word. If anything, classical music is the music they shouldn’t be allowing you to listen to classical music because you can claim that classical music is devilish just as easily if not easierly than The Beatles, remember it’s 2017 not 1957 and rock music is no longer thought of as pure evil

See my response to ASJ and SG. He could say yes, but he might not. I also don’t know who my mission president is until I get my call, since it depends on where I’m going.

4. If he says no, is there anything we can do to prevent you from leaving the forum, it would be sad to see you go and none of us want another Matt Bubsy happening

Well I’ll be off the forum regardless while I’m out in the field, however I wont be gone from the forum forever, I’ll be back after my mission.

As for you Starr Shine?, I doubt Billy Shears would shine a positive light on homosexuals if he went on this mission because the bible hates them and it seems like Billy’s going to be taking his religion seriously although if it helps, everyone except for devout Christians are fine with gay people nowadays, so we can find a new concept to accept, here’s a list of 5:

1. Incest

2. Muslims

3. Drugs

4. Nudists

5. Integrated prisons

(Also a response to @Starr Shine?). In the LDS church we are taught to love and respect everyone. There’s also a large emphasis on forgiveness. So while we may not support the Muslim or LGBTQ moments themselves, we will support these people as individuals. Like if someone was treated unfairly because of their race or beliefs, I’d definitely stand up for them.

We do practice the law of chastity, or no sex before marriage, and drugs/alcohol/(yes)coffee is against the word of wisdom. Again no hate to people who participate in these things, but it’s just not something that we believe in or support.

So yes, I will be out preaching peace, love, and the good news of the gospel.

Also thanks for that quote @Joe, I totally agree. Jesus loved everyone and spent his days with the sinners. We should all try to love and respect everyone just as he did.

I hope I answered all your inquiries. I’m always happy to answer any other questions y’all have for me about the church.

Also I’ll definitely have to buy and read your book when it comes out, Joe. I’m excited for that!

The Book of Mormon takes a humourous look at TCoJCofLDS while still remaining factual about Mormonism.

You can always find something funny to pick in every single religion, group whatever and Matt&Trey did a great job in TBoM.

Here is their song about Joseph Smith, no video alas but the song stands for itself I think.

Jesus taught love, Billy Cambel should too.

We’ve been here before. The Old Testament taught those, The New Testament does not and explains why it moved on.

Jesus indeed taught people to love and the first person without sin to cast the first stone. The church is fecked up, especially as a % of ministers, preachers etc are or have had homosexual relations, some with under age kids. But they like to ignore that.

Ssshhhh mmm, all hail the Church!!!

I for one personally think it was the best thing ever done to Ireland, the day Catholicism was brought over. It truly changed the country for the best, I mean anyone read about the mass pit of dead babies from Magdalene Laundries that was discovered about an hour away from where I live? Really great addition to the country it was.

Yeah, it’s funny how accurate the play is. I think I remember seeing somewhere that the creators are actually Mormon and that’s why their parody is so close to the actual story.

Yes, but people still cite it as a reason people should reject homosexuality. Not everyone but some still do.

I’m quite a big South Park fan but Matt Stone is an atheist and Trey Parker believes in a ‘God ‘ but doesn’t subscribe to a religion. Parker was always interested in the Mormon Church and wanted to learn more about it, and thus came the episode All About Mormons.

Beatley-related fact: The Mormon family that are in the episode are called the Harrisons.

The New Testament clearly rejects homosexuality.

For although they knew God , they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

(Romans 1:21-27, NIV)

However, Jesus (and the rest of the New Testament) taught to love the sinner not the sin, something which the church chose to ignore instead preaching condemnation and unacceptance of the person(s). Only now are people in the church finally getting back to the original intent but a massive amount of damage has been done over the centuries that isn’t going to be easily forgiven or forgotten.

To meanmistermustard, the new testament also says

Ephesian 5:22
Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.

Also

2 Thessalonians 2:11-12King James Version (KJV)

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

There is some stuff in the new testament that is strange as well.

I know that kinda sounds weird, but that whole section is about how husbands and wives should love each other. It goes on to say….

Ephesians 5 (KJV)

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

There is some stuff in the new testament that is strange as well.

This one may sound a bit weird, but it’s essentially talking about how there will be a great apostasy (or the removal of the power of god from the earth) before the second coming. It goes on to say…

2 Thessalonians 2 (KJV)

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Now the apostasy happened in 90ish AD after Christs apostles all died off. The church was no longer on the earth until is was restored in the 1800’s by Joseph Smith. This is a Mormon belief, but really so many Mormon practices are in the Bible, and some weird things in the Bible make so much more sense when put into the belief of the restoration.

Now as much as I love discussing the Bible, this thread is for current life happenings so we should stay-on-topic and maybe take this to the Philosophy thread or a religion discussion thread.

Past couple weeks have been a bit crazy. I signed up for my high school courses last week (and I was somehow recommended into Honors French, despite being awful at speaking not only French, but also English). I’m relatively excited for high school, but also a little nervous, but that’s alright.

This week has been driving me insane. I woke up with a migraine on Monday, but went to school anyways. I was sent home before 2nd period ended because I was feeling incredibly nauseous and the pain was unbearable. Pretty much the same story yesterday, except I didn’t go to school. Today I almost went back to school, but I could barely eat, but luckily I didn’t feel nauseous.

Yesterday I went to the doctors office and I’m being given more medicine, one new prescription, and a refill of the old stuff that hasn’t really been doing anything that, for some reason, the doctor thinks that I should take more of, when I feel the side effects of the drug quicker than any relief from the pain. I’m also going to see a neurologist for the pain in roughly late April, but my family is trying to get me in on an earlier date. I’m just hoping that everything goes well and my brain doesn’t get fried entirely before I go back to school and go to a neurologista-hard-days-night-paul-7
