Offline Wow Matt Busby, that sounds rough! Hope it’ll all work out well for you.
I’ve got nothing interesting to share. Went out yesterday evening to have a drink with some classmates, had a lot of fun and today I went to get my hair cut. I chose to have lowlights and I’m glad it turned out well so I don’t look like a zebra. So far this week has been alright.

As for Britney lip-syncing its nothing new, she was miming at the beginning of her career. Tho with the mention of twerking i am wondering if you mean Miley Cyrus.

Well, it could have gone better 🙁 I had a shitty (excuse me) public defender. She advised me to take the prosecutor’s offer of dropping the 1st degree misdemeanor dui for a 4th degree misdemeanor disturbing the peace. I thought that sounded like a lesser thing, and would save the points on my license and the expense of a trial (I would have hired a lawyer for a trial, but not being rich I went for the bargain). I was also worried that my illness, which is still stigmatized (ok, I’ll tell you guys…bipolar, controlled fairly well but with a hefty dose of legal medication) might have resulted in a permanent license revocation. But it turns out there were two problems, first, I never got to present my sober evidence. I plead guilty to disturbing the peace…only to find the second problem, and what it boils down to is amazing:
drunk walking is a criminal offense and drunk driving is just a traffic offense! (as long as nobody is hurt)
No freakin’ wonder there’s people with 7 dui’s driving around! Criminy!
So now I’ve got a criminal record and a year’s probation. It’s much cheaper than either a dui or a trial would have been. And I can get it expunged after the year, so then my record will be squeaky clean again. I didn’t get a suspended license, which was a distinct possibility given the number of speeding tickets I have.
The public defender never said anything about it being a criminal vs. traffic charge. The worst thing is my mother is upset about me having a “record.” Of course I’m not happy about it but I can live with it (assuming it will expunge). Now she tells me she would have paid for a lawyer (she’s much more well off than I).
live and learn…and as the dalai lama says, “if there is something you can do about it, do it…if not, don’t worry about it.” there’s no use stressing over it at this point. Thanks to you who wished me luck 🙂 I should have gone for the trial, but hindsight is 20-20.

Offline Matt Busby – while it could have gone better, I am relieved for you that it did not go worse. Having a “record” does not sound like fun, but I am assuming it is a midemeanor and not a felony. Also, you get to keep your driver’s license and your insurance rates won’t go up. A year from now, when you are “squeaky clean” again, it will all be just a memory – you are one day closer to that already.

Offline @Zig, it is the most minor possible offense, 4th degree misdemeanor (if it had been a felony charge you can bet I would have fought it – I like my right to vote!).
@Ahhh Girl, thanks for your compliment (that you need me to stick around). The only condition on the probation is that I don’t get into drug/alcohol trouble, which won’t be a problem.
@DrBeatle, i hope whatever you’re hoping for happens! Good things for the family are truly good things

Sorry to hear it didn’t go as expected, but at least you still have your license, and as long as you can get this expunged all should be good in a year.

Offline I’ve been away from the forum for a while, and that’s because I’ve been off from school and have had time to do summer activities. Last month I was fortunate enough to be able to go on vacation to Hilton Head, South Carolina along with a lot of my family members. I live on an island (Long Island, New York), but it’s nothing compared to Hilton Head, which is a very beautiful island farther down along the east coast. I’ve attached a photo that I took of the view from the back porch of where I stayed. While I was there, I wasn’t only able to see family whom I don’t get to see very often, but I was also able to visit the beach almost every day (no driving, all you have to do is walk), fish, and go to the pool. I might be able to go again next year, so I’ll be looking forward to that.
