In addition to being on this Beatles forum, I’m also on forums for Guns N’ Roses and Nine Inch Nails, which just speaks to how schizophrenic my musical tastes are.Back when I was younger (like, around my early teens) I was a member of the Snopes urban legends forums. I was banned because I lied about my age and name in my profile (they required you to put your real name in your profile). I don’t do that anymore. I haven’t lied about my age here and I haven’t had occasion to reveal my real name here.
I’ve had some slightly saddening news today. I joined the official Nine Inch Nails forum (forum.nin.com) on December 30th, 2010, shortly after I joined here. I was active there from December 2010 to about April 2015. Earlier today, the forum shut it’s doors for good. This has been coming for quite some time. Shortly before the most recent album, Hesitation Marks, was released in September 2013, the forum was no longer linked to the main site. A redesign was promised but never delivered. Since 2013, the forum gradually got less and less traffic, as the only way to access it was directly typing the URL into the search bar. I left the place in 2015, as a certain member created a sock puppet account to troll and pick on people and moderation became pretty much nonexistent on the more-or-less abandoned forum. I made many friends there, some of whom I still keep in contact with. I feel mixed feelings about this. On one hand, part of my life’s history has been erased. On the other hand, this was clearly an inevitability and the place became far less fun in the later years.

Offline I’ve been away from here for a while, not that I post much regardless, mostly due to business travel and being just plain insanely busy. Heading into the holidays, we’ve had a disruption in our plans — my wife has contracted an MRSA infection. Nasty stuff! She appears to be on the mend, but she’s homebound for at least another couple of weeks. And she takes one of those injectable biologic meds for arthritis, which suppresses the immune system, so she’s a lot more susceptible to infections than most people, and this kind of potentially deadly infection is doubly dangerous for her. I think we’re out of the woods this time, but it’s still a wait-and-see thing.
Any escalation would land her in the hospital to be put on intravenous antibiotics, and as hospitals are where most people contract MRSA infections, well, not the option I’d hope for!
Plus my hands are getting chapped from so much hand washing! (OK, it’s dangerous, but we still have a sense of humor about it!)

Offline I found out that my aunt’s present will probably not arrive in the mail until after Christmas. She’s got a job where she does a lot of traveling. She leaves to go back to Maryland (her current assignment) on December 27th. I probably won’t see her again until a month from then.

Something that has brought you joy has ended. That is sad. I get it.
At the same time, no part of your life’s history has been erased. Someone from that website will remember you for longer than you will know. Be grateful for the relationships you’ve made through the site that still exist. Websites come and go. Relationships are much more precious.

Offline It’s been so cold outside lately that my dogs are having troubles going outside. They can’t be outside very long before they fall over and cry because they’re so cold they can’t walk anymore. It makes me feel bad because I can’t take them on walks so they’re stuck in the house all day.
