Schools in the UK start back around the 17th August – that was always the date i dreaded and save us all if it was even just a day earlier. That might be true for Scotland, I don’t know, but definitely not true for the whole UK. In England the standard date (some schools vary) is 3 September.
Yeah, thats Scotland and i think the Republic of Ireland is the same, at least it is for my nephew who’s in Dublin. Strangely i was thinking ‘Scotland’ when typing so no idea why i typed UK. However after we vote for Independence we’ll be invading and conquering England so can fix their oversight. Then we’ll hop over to America and fix their silly spelling before its back home for a dram of whiskey.

The last couple days I’ve been working for a neighboring ranch doing this-
Today we started riding at 6 in the morning and didn’t stop until 2. We moved a total 200 head of cattle 8 miles or so. It’s fun but so damn tiring, especially when its hot and smokey outside like it can be this time of year. I’m glad sore all over. But beautiful country as you can see.

Do you mean what books and stuff you will need?We never knew that until after a few classes, just one of those things. It used to be you’d go in with a pen and some paper, now its recommended you get an ipad for primary one (thats four/five year olds)!! Strange days.
The first day back is always horrid but then you meet your mates and get into the swing of things. Doesnt mean you dont hanker for the end of the day tho.
In secondary school or middle school or whatever it’s called, we always got this list of books and could pick up the whole bunch at school. There would be a pile of books with your name on them and you needed to check if they were all complete and looked good. At the end of the year you did the same thing, but then to return them. If a book didn’t look good, you even had to pay a fine. I once had to pay 35 euros because my maths correction book had a dog’s ear for god’s sake.
Now we also have a list, which is on the internet, but I’m just going to wait til after a few colleges to see which books I really need. I can use excerpts for some exams if available. Worked fine last year.
Yeah, my old primary school apparently has digital schoolboards and laptops and all. Feels very weird. When I went there they still had those huge computers with Windows 98 or whatever and I can even remember using floppy disksWhile I agree that there certainly is a lot to learn with the help of technology, I do miss simpler times. When I was 6 we didn’t even have a computer yet. We only got one when I was 8 or so and it was this huge thing without internet. You could only play a few games on it. I didn’t have a mobile phone until my 15th. Oh and I actually played with toys and played outside instead of with an iPad.
I was thinking about this the other day, but my children will never know CD stores. That’s a weird thought. There aren’t many left, and I’m sure that by the time I’ll have children, they all will be gone.

I was at a restaurant recently and the table next to us had this kid who was 8 or 9. The waitress went to hand him one of those kid menus- you know the ones that have a few meals and some space to draw on?
So she hands him one of those, and he immediately starts swiping it like it’s an iPad he’s trying to unlock
There is no way that the amount of technology kids use is good for them. They don’t have any ability to just sit still without constant stimulus. They don’t know how to just be bored anymore.

I know and agree that it’s a serious problem, but I found the story hilarious. In a sad way, you know.

And then of course he’s screaming at his mother “it doesn’t work mama fix it!” and she says “no no sweet heart- that’s paper and these are crayons for you to draw with”
He gives her this look like ‘draw with? you want me to draw s**t? Who the hell do you think I am? Are you honestly asking that I sit here and spend the next hour drawing? I need to use your iPad that was manufactured by children my age and younger who work 18 hour days in a third world country in order to get through this god damn evening.’

I went to a bookstore and bought a vinyl album price guide. I’ve been going through my entire collection checking the values and also checking which albums are reissues and which are original.
All of the below have turned out to be original pressings:
By the way, these are not the only albums that turned out to be original pressings – they’re just the only ones that I’ve taken pictures of.
Out of the albums I looked at today, I also had original copies of:
The Beatles’ Story – The Beatles (mono)
Yesterday And Today – The Beatles (mono)
Magical Mystery Tour – The Beatles (stereo)
Abbey Road – The Beatles
Help ! – The Beatles (U.S. mono)
A Hard Day’s Night – The Beatles (U.S. mono)
Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band – The Beatles (U.S. mono)
The Beatles’ Second Album – The Beatles
Surfer Girl – The Beach Boys
Beach Boys Concert – The Beach Boys
Holland – The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys Today! – The Beach Boys
15 Big Ones – The Beach Boys
Powerage – AC/DC
Let There Be Rock – AC/DC

Bad news: my son fell down the stairs at our townhouse last night.
Good news: somehow, he didn’t get a scratch or a bruise on him. Not a one. We took him to the children’s hospital and they checked him out thoroughly and he’s A-OK and good to go. I’ve joked before that the kid is bulletproof, now I’m beginning to wonder if he really is…

It is so true, it is terrible. My cousin who is 1 (!!!) was sitting on her dad’s lap and colouring on the iPad. So basically, you pick a color and choose the part you want to have coloured and you can even print it. No more messy drawings, what is the fun of that??? I think it is shocking.
I first used the computer when I was 6. I started using internet when I was about 9. But there my baby cousin was, swiping the ipad and clicking on apps as if it was the most normal thing in the world. It is unbelievable.
Also someone in my class told me that she had gotten a phone when she was 6, 6!!! I hardly knew what a phone was at that age. And why do you even need a phone?
I really don’t know what the future is going to be like, will people still talk to each other? Or will they be plastered to their electronic devices 24/7?

I hope people are putting most of the blame where it belongs – on the parents who let the kids spend too much time with the technology devices.
I had a dream a few months ago where everyone was walking around with puppets on their hand. People didn’t talk. Their puppets did. People without puppets couldn’t talk. I woke up and looked over and saw my phone. It hit me that our phones are our puppets now. That’s how I talk to you all most of the time.

You know when you call someone you usually text and they’re like “Mimi? Are you okay? What’s wrong? Why don’t you just text me?”
In regards to what @Ahhh Girl said, it’s not the parents or the kids who should take the blame. The kids are only doing it because the rest of society is. It doesn’t matter if your a teenager or a kid or a parent or an adult who doesn’t have the responsibility of a family, people need to take responsibility and put down their devices. If your always on your phone you can never feel the full range of human emotion. You’re never really happy or really sad, and that’s unhealthy. I think when people feel that wave of sadness or despair coming on, the just push it away by refreshing their Facebook page taking a picture of whatever it is they are doing and posting it on one of their many blogs. If you can’t just sit and let yourself feel sadness, then your not actually happy or secure. Your not allowing yourself to really feel, and the incredible emotions that we as people are privileged enough to have access to are not worth missing for a f*****g twitter update.

Amen, Mimi. That is why I am on here sparingly, if at all during weekends. I love you all as my virtual friends, but absolutely nothing beats human contact with friends or family. When I am out to dinner or visiting with them, my phone is off. Ahhh Girl can attest to that as I’ve missed several calls from her on weekends due to my interacting with people in person, device off. I treasure those intractions.
I’m afraid that is lost on a lot of younger folk. I heard some interesting terms just this morning on the radio. The gentleman said he is a “technology transient” meaning he had to move into technology. Conversely, his daughter is a “technology native” because she was born there. Good, bad or otherwise, it’s a sign of the times.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Yeah, that’s exactly the case.
I’m on here quite a lot, but I do have contact with my friends and family and I also turn off my phone. I’m not addicted to my phone, and I’ve proven that I can live without one, in the 5 weeks I didn’t have one after Pinkpop. It’s a shame a lot of schoolstuff goes through apps and that it’s important to be available all the time these days, otherwise I wouldn’t even bother having one, or perhaps just one of those old phones. It does make a lot of stuff also a tad easier though. For example, there’s an app with my school timetable on there, and that’s very handy. Also, I can check my mail at any time of the day, it’ll bleep if I get new mail in. That’s especially convenient for schoolmail, when teachers mail us to tell that there won’t be a class today or something like that. Also, when I have to pay for something, or make a deal with someone, I can just check my bank account and transfer money. Those are the positive sides.
My sister was sitting in her room all day and when I asked her what she was doing she replied with ”talking to my friends”. Why don’t you just go see your friends? I mean, if you’re talking to each other all day anyway, you might as well go to them, right? Mobile phones have made us incredibly lazy and antisocial.
Also, that drawing app for little children is completely missing the point. It’s not about colouring bits. It’s important for little children to learn how to draw so they can improve their coordination. It’s about the holding of the crayon, and the movements you make. It’s about learning. Do you do that by pressing on a screen? Nope.

Ya the school stuff and the technology are crazy. I had to get a Facebook account for school when a few years ago they didn’t even allow Facebook to be accessed at school.
If you can't log in and can't use the forum go here and someone will help you out.

This girl in my class still has one of those older phones, and we’ve asked her why she doesn’t get a new one and she’s just like ”why? this one is working perfectly fine”, but of course she doesn’t have any apps on it, nor Whatsapp. And since a lot of it goes through that, she misses most of it. Of course we often try to text her with the information, but hey, everyone forgets things sometimes. So in the end she still misses a lot, just because she doesn’t have a phone that’s more modern.
I personally think it’s crazy they expect us to look at our email at 6.30 in the morning to see if any classes are cancelled or changed or whatever. Checking my school email account isn’t exactly the first thing I think of when I have just woken up.
