It’s crap others are losing their jobs but a) it’s not your fault and b) what else can you do but get on with it? Quit and join the others searching for work? That’s not going to be to the benefit of anyone.

Apologies if that sounds harsh, its not meant to be. I presume i’m to be more sympathetic.

It doesn’t sound harsh, it just sounds like meanmistermustard’s unique brand of pragmatic sympathy. a-hard-days-night-george-9

Thank you. Whilst I am a very supportive person (ask my family, well you can’t but thats the point) i don’t buy into all holding hands by the graveside for 7 months of mourning every time a cornflake is dropped on the floor as seems to be the way in the modern world at times. I bet I don’t come off here very well to the outsiders looking in.

I am resting and recuperating. Find myself tired and a little energyless and unsteady at times so having to sleep more but slowly on the mend. Back to work on Friday which will be interesting.

I auditioned for a once-off play on Tuesday because I’ve found myself becoming kind of isolated so I need to do something.

Anyhoo the director and the scriptwriter (who was also there, funnily enough) thought I did a good job and seemed pretty happy with my performance to say the least- I got a good laugh for the lines that were meant to be funny whatever.

Turns out the part went to some theatre student so they could claim it as their “performance experience” for the semester so they wouldn’t have to do an extra module….grrrr >.>

I sent an “I’m interested in this job” email for a temporary freelance assignment today. It might lead to more assignments. I hope I get it.

Yeah, first step is putting myself out there and getting seen. Even if it does sometimes feel like this.

On top of that, I am dealing with another round of body work on my car. Some may recall that in late April/early May, my vehicle was struck on the highway by a wheel that came loose from a truck. That caused major damage to the right front corner of my car. Last Friday, while driving to work (sick – Waaaahhh!!!) a construction alert sign came loose and was hurtling toward my car, this time causing major damage to the left front corner. The car is less than 2 years old! It’s getting to the point where a leaf that innocently blows in the wind toward my car causes me to duck for cover.

That is crazy bad luck!

awkward. I want to be able to enjoy what is coming down the road but I can’t. I feel so horrible for my friends – survivor’s guilt.

Okay, so these are “first world” problems. I get it. But when you add it all up, it’s still depressing regardless of the “world”. I just needed to vent.

Funny, I never pictured you as a “winer&diner” apple01 It’s always ok to vent.

It’s ok to feel bad about your friends, but as my mother often told me, guilt is a “useless emotion.” You don’t have to put yourself down to prop them up, especially since it’s just in your own head. If you have any industry contacts, you might try to help some of them find new jobs…depends on how you think their performance was separate from your friendship. That would be a productive thing, but it may or may not be your bag. It’s just capitalism & the search for roi at work – hopefully this crazy election will work out and the economy won’t go in the tank and they won’t be out of work longa-hard-days-night-ringo-8

You come off fine to me 🙂 Just, as @Beatlebug put it, pragmatic. I like to think it’s how far north you (and other Scots) are that makes you pragmatic. I once had a email pal from the Orkneys and she was…pragmatic 😉

Great news, I talked about it with Steve and he said he’ll let me stay for the cost of supplies until I get a job (although I still have to pay my half of the rent for my landlord’s special deal) and he said he’s going to try to convince the manager to get me a job there, although it isn’t likely, as no one wants to hire a high school dropout that has a criminal record and stayed back twice.

Good luck, @HMBeatlesfan - I would offer the advice of not downing yourself. I did it for years and it really feels good to shed it.
We all have our skeletons, we all have to keep on keepin' on just the same. When we bruise we heal back stronger (hopefully!).
As for me, I just booked a flight & hotel to visit Doris on our first anniversary. It means putting off the move a month (til January),
and driving through two mountain ranges in the dead of winter, but I'll have a lot more money saved up and if I have to hole up in
a hotel while they clear passes I can handle it. I had planned to arrive there on the anniversary of the night we fell in love (11 years
ago), but our wedding anniversary is more important. And this way I'll be here and the 3 kids who speak to me and my mother will
come over for a day at Christmas. I'm going to visit each of them in November, so I'll get to see them twice before I move. Fortunately
mom inherited a bit of coin so she will pay for them all to visit us on the west coast once a year, if they want to (and I'll be back once
a year anyway). As they're all in uni, they are busy and I only see them 3-4 times a year as it is.

EDIT: made the next paragraph a spoiler because it's personal & political and probably a bit annoying and off topic even for this thread

Alas, two of my kids and their mother are ultra-conservative, pseudo-evangelical Catholics (not judging, just describing) and are voting
for the dark side 🙁 I'm so tempted to put together an email attempting to reveal the darkness but...I think I should refrain - maybe
we'll talk about it when I see them, but it'll be after the election and I will hopefully not feel like I have to passionately try to convince
them to switch (and hopefully the light will still be shining on us!)paul-mccartney I suspect my oldest boy, who's in the seminary, is a one-issue
voter (anti-choice ;). Apparently the girl who isn't speaking to us is a potential vote for the home team, so that's promising anyway. That
would end up making the group of us making up one vote for the home team, but the kids, ex, and Doris are in states that their votes
won't really matter. Indiana will go to the dark side and Washington is very blue. My mom and I are in the swing state to end all swing
states (Ohio) so we get swamped with ads and our votes actually mean something. Feel free to private me if you don't understand
how we vote and want a brief explanation...

In other news, the younger son (who somehow inherited all the [liberal] socio-politico-ethical values of my family) has also inherited some
form of mood disorder from his male ancestral line. He was diagnosed bipolar but we all think he's ADHD. He's a great kid, he's the one I'm
closest to, but it's hard as he makes his way from doctor to doctor looking for a good one (for those of you who've never had to see a
psychiatrist, it usually takes at least 3 tries to find one that's "compatible"). In the meantime you are taking medications that aren't
right and going through much stress - poor kid (he's 20). Ok rambled on enough...does my loneliness show? a-hard-days-night-ringo-14

Steve seems like a nice guy, although I don’t know where you’re going to get the money for supplies if you don’t have a job. Also, I feel you man, getting a job with a criminal record is hard as hell. I am lucky in the fact that most of my arrests were when I was a child and they don’t count against me, however I know quite a few people who have it very hard. For example, one of my friends was in a sexual relationship a 14 year old when he was in his mid 20’s and went to jail for 5 years. He’s 52 now, but he still lives with his mom because no one wants to hire him. It’s a good thing you don’t have it as hard as him.

Well I broke my pretty new (year and a half old) computer on Sunday and it would have pretty much cost the same amount to fix it as it would to get a new one, so I got the new one today. I’m still pretty bummed about breaking my last one, though, and getting this new one completely wiped out my savings.

Also, my feet recently grew because none of my shoes fit me anymore and wearing them is really painful and my toes are super sore, but I got new shoes today that actually fit me. It’s still sad, though, because I used to have like thirty something pairs of shoes but now I only have like eight, and I have no pink Converse high tops. ):

Why on earth do you need 30 pairs of shoes?

Converse come in a lot of colors, and I needed to have a wide variety to compliment my variety of clothes and the different seasons. I also just really like to have a lot of options.

I haven’t even thought about packing yet. Going out to buy a case on wheels this afternoon as I don’t fancy the bag that I had to carry last time.

May just buy the case and leave it mainly empty, buy clothes as I go along… saves packing…

Just got my first grinds student of the year (yay). All the ones I had last year are finished school now and gone to college (bless) so there’s been no teaching for ASJ for the past few weeks (quite sad).

But hopefully I can get some more people (3 or 4 would be best) because then I can give up the Friday job because f**k working for 9 hours to earn what I can get for teaching in 4.

I’m meeting the girl tomorrow, let us hope all goes well!
