^^I hope so, mmm.I had a –$10 off a purchase of $20 or more– coupon from J.C. Penney. I bought two shirts. Big shopping spree for me.
Me too!
I had to go clothes shopping for school today.
Hope you are pleased with your purchases.
I had a some room in my closet because I gave my mom 6 shirts that I don’t wear anymore.
Well, I didn’t buy them, silly! I don’t have the money for all that. (So my dad bought it all)
We have to wear quite specific things at the school – a black collared shirt with khaki shorts or pants. And it starts Wednesday.
But I guess I can’t complain, because some people I know are starting earlier.

Wednesday!! God damn
my school doesn’t start until the 29th or something like that. I’ve been so lazy about it only just finished signing up for classes. I’m taking advanced music theory and auto mechanics (and some other required classes, but those are the fun and worthwhile ones)

Yeah, well I’m getting out of school pretty early next year, so I don’t mind that much.

Well, now everyone knows I don’t live in Michigan.
Different places all over the US start school at totally different times. I wonder if there is a real reason, or if it’s just each state’s school board deciding when they feel like starting school again, based on convenience or something?

I am about to leave for the airport. I am not looking foward to a 10 hour flight at all.
And my bag is very heavy. Why? Because The Beatles: Anthology is in there. I know that I’ll arive tomorrow with excruciating back and shoulder pains. But it is my own choice to take the book…

Schools in some northern states need to plan on snow day closings so they typically start earlier in the year. If, by the end of the school year, there were less snow days than planned, school could end days earlier. And, as @Starr Shine? mentioned, some areas plan around tourism to maximize sales tax revenues. Other areas plan around the harvesting of crops, etc…
As an adult, I also dread school being back in session. It means a lot more cars on the road (teachers and staff) during my already congested commute to work and back.
@Beatleva – the book is worth the sacrifice! As an added benefit, you could use it to anchor yourself during gale force wind storms.
@meanmistermustard – I hope the latest prescription brings you relief. I know how much you enjoy your walks through the countryside.

That’s interesting, in Florida, schools usually start about a week before the northern states, so I always thought it was the other way around.

Secondary school starts in the last week of August here, and so does the first year of University. My year starts at the 2nd of September. It sorta depends where in the Netherlands one is though, in the North it starts a week earlier and in the South a week later…or was it the other way around
I’m looking forward to it though. I’m eager to learn and so far it has been quite interesting. On the other hand, I know how stressful and hard last year was and I’ve heard the second year is even worse. Ah well, can’t really rely on that too much, people have said more things that have proven to be false so I’ll see for myself.

^ And I start it a day later.
The dumb thing is, the supply list for my school is based on what classes you have, and we don’t get our schedules till tomorrow. Who came up with that idea?!?!?

Do you mean what books and stuff you will need?
We never knew that until after a few classes, just one of those things. It used to be you’d go in with a pen and some paper, now its recommended you get an ipad for primary one (thats four/five year olds)!! Strange days.
It used to be you’d go in with a bit of slate and a piece of stone if you were lucky.
The first day back is always horrid but then you meet your mates and get into the swing of things. Doesnt mean you dont hanker for the end of the day tho.

Schools in the UK start back around the 17th August – that was always the date i dreaded and save us all if it was even just a day earlier.
That might be true for Scotland, I don’t know, but definitely not true for the whole UK. In England the standard date (some schools vary) is 3 September.

Where I live, school started back today for my kids. Not to be the “back in my day” guy, but I never started school until right after Labor Day, always got out in mid-June and I went to several school districts in several states. I don’t know when this trend started to end school in mid-May and go back in mid-August, but I do know more and more school districts in America are going that route.
